Taking a Turn For the Worse

Anastasia can sense that these upperclassmen are reeking of nothing but bad news.

What they're doing may not be obvious to anyone who will happen to pass by, but she can clearly see their intentions here, especially since they keep blocking her path. They even started snarling out of nowhere, backing her to the corner of that soulless hallway all the while.

"Yeah, that's right. Who do you think you are...?" the other girl chimed in while regarding her contemptuously.

"Acting all friendly and chummy with Lucien, that is."

Then, she paused.

Now, Anastasia finally has a rough idea of what's going on here. This is probably a new development of all the negative attention she's receiving these days. What's worse, things already appear to be going downhill in such a rapid pace.

"Say, you like him, don't you?" one of them asked while glowering down at her.

"No use denying it now. You act like you're uninterested, but you're obviously enjoying the attention he's giving you. Isn't that right?" claimed her companion, a scowl marring her frame.

"What a hypocrite."

"You're probably acting like that on purpose so that you can get him to like you or something."

At that point, Anastasia had enough.

She's not about to let them continue wasting her time like this. Though she really can't deny what they're claiming, that matter is still none of their business. They're just clearly meddling right now and pouring scorn on her.

"What I do is none of your business. I'm not doing anything wrong in the first place..." Anastasia started again with her brows scrunched tightly together, not losing hold of her intrepidity.

"Pulling something dirty on me won't get you anywhere, you know. If you think I'm going to back off by something this petty, then you're wrong."

"Well, let's see about that," her upperclassman sneered schemingly, her lips curling into a crooked smile.

That's when things take an unprecedented turn.

In a blink of an eye, someone from behind Anastasia suddenly zoomed in and opened the janitor's closet that was right beside them. With that, one of the upperclassmen who confronted her stepped forward and roughly grabbed her arm before pushing her inside with brute force.

"Kyaaa...!!!"

Dropping her backpack, Anastasia ended up screeching and falling on the floor. Before she had the chance to get up, though, the girls already slammed the door shut.

Now, she's left trapped in that dark, cramped closet that's full of brooms, mops, and other cleaning tools.

"What the heck...?!"

After a few seconds of processing this nonplussing and apprehending situation, Anastasia eventually managed to stand up and rush to the door. She grabbed the knob and tried to open it but to no avail.

The door has been locked from the outside.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing-!"

"Take some time to reflect on your cocky behaviour. Know your place, brat!" hollered the person who opened the closet earlier.

"Don't worry~ We'll come back for you early in the morning," said the other one.

"Stay away from Lucien, or else, you'll be getting something worse than this," their companion taunted.

"Oh, and no use telling him about us. You will not be able to get your hand on any evidence, anyway."

"We might even bring up your secret crush on him when we get to talk with him again."

"While we're at it, we'll make up and drop some nasty stuff about you. Gossips and rumors spread like wildfire around here, you know~"

Already satisfied with their disdainful and venomous remarks, her offenders eventually walk away while erupting in a round of cackles the entire time, leaving Anastasia in that pitch darkness all on her own.
