Chapter Two

....

~Time skip to present day~

I was helping my grandma move stuff around outside, it was later in the day also it just got done raining. So you know that typical muggy, hot, stuffy weather? Yeah. I was choking on the air I breathed.

Besides that, we were giggling and throwing small stuff at each other. Having a normal fun time. Shortly after all the hard work she had to take a break. I told her I got the garbage can ready to go and burn cardboard. She ushered me along smiling and laughing.

I rounded the corner of the house and went back to the edge of the densely grown woods. Mind yourself that it was foggy out, I bent over to the small fire pit and began to pile stuff in a small fire and lit it from there.

As I was doing this, I hadn't seen the pair of small eyes poking out of the brush in the woods. I stood up and then came the small voice of a girl child. "Excuse me miss, do you wanna play?" I looked down at the little girl and got to my knees and said sure. I told her that I wanted to play doctor. "Why miss?" She asked. I said my name is ---,  and because I found a cutie patient." She smiled and grabbed my hand. I walked her inside and began cleaning her cuts and iced her bruises. She winced but smiled. I grabbed her hand and said squeeze if it hurts.

Shortly she was better and wanted to play another game. So I said we could play build a fire. She giggled and grabbed my hand and drug me outback. We started the fire and my grandma came out back. She asked who the little girl is. She said, "My name is Sally ma'am."

Considering I am only 14, I enjoyed my new found friend. But she never told me how she got there or how she got the cuts and bruises. I told her if she wanted she could stay the night. She accepted and grabbed my hand.

Time skip:

It was rounding nearer and nearer to bedtime and she slowly drifted off. When I had picked her up off of the cold grass, from in front of the fire, she mumbled something like,  "No one sees." I thought nothing of it and dressed her into an old shirt and shorts of mine. She looked so small. I went to the shower, clothes in hand. As I stepped in I got a bunch of butterflies in my belly. I had shook it and turned on the shower head and began a steamy shower.

After I was clean and washed I jumped out brushed my hair, after I dried off of course. I brushed my teeth and washed away the content in my mouth. I began humming Sleepsong by Secret Garden. I put on my short shorts and light pink sort-of see through tank top.

I opened the door and walked down the hall to my room and continued to hum the song. I walked to my dresser and put on a pair of socks considering my feet were cold. I heard a small, tired voice, "Where did you learn that song?" I whispered my foster parents had a record player and they owned the record. "Can you sing it for me?" I looked down and whispered sure. I climbed in next to her and turned off my lights.

I pulled her small body close and played with her beautiful brown hair. Slowly and quietly I began.

Loo-li, loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay

Loo-li, loo-li, loo-li lai-lay

Lay down your head and I'll sing you a lullaby

Back to the years of loo-li lai-lay

And I'll sing you to sleep and I'll sing you tomorrow

Bless you with love for the road that you go

May you sail far to the far fields of fortune

With diamonds and pearls at your head and your feet

And may you need never to banish misfortune

May you find kindness in all that you meet

May there always be angels to watch over you

To guide you each step of the way

To guard you and keep you safe from all harm

Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay

May you bring love and may you bring happiness

Be loved in return to the end of your days

Now fall off to sleep, I'm not meaning to keep you.

I loomed over Sally fast asleep. I close my eyes for what felt like a minute. I woke up to little feet and big footsteps. I gripped the baseball bat under my bed. Sliding out and slipping on a t-shirt. I walked out noting Sally not next to me in bed. I creeped downstairs. Listening to Sally and a raspy voice arguing quietly.

RV: You kill the girl. I already got the grandmother.

Sally: But --- is different. I like her.

RV: No Sally. Slenderman said no soul left behind.

Sally: If you kill her you have to kill me.

He stopped talking for a second and slowly said fine. I was at breaking point of crying. My grandmother is gone. I gripped the aluminum bat tighter and came out full sprint flinging the bat across the blue masked boy. I looked across the floor seeing parts of my grandma. Choking on pain and anger. I leaped across the floor at Sally and pinned her into a hug softly crying into her small body. I began screaming,  "WHY DID YOU DO THIS!?"

She began to cry and held me. I looked around and saw the man getting back up. I began to pick up my bat and I swung for his ribs. Smashing at least several. He screamed stop. He pinned me to the wall and gripped my arms tighter. I began to feel butterflies again. Pretty soon I slipped from his grip like butter. He looked confused. I said you shouldn't have done that. I grabbed his arm. I threw my leg up into the back of his skull knocking him down.

Sally said, "Stop --- come along,  I'm taking you home." Soon a beanstalkof a man appeared in front of me. That's when my world had gone dark. I remember trees and singing. After that... nothing came.
