Chapter eighteen

When we got to his parents house I instantly sought out Sylvia. We had two hours to kill before Aidens parents came back from wherever they had gone this morning. Most of the party was already set up by the time we arrived so I didn't feel guilty wanting to steal Sylvia for a few moments.

"Letty you look worried." She said when I finally found her. I nodded.

"Can we talk privately?" I asked in a hushed tone. She nodded and led me into a random room and shut the door.

"What's wrong?" She asked turning to look at me. Even when worried she looked so beautiful. She wore a gold dress that matched her eyes but looked so beautiful against her milk chocolate skin. Her hair was hanging down to her waist in multiple thin braids with strands of gold in them. She was breathtaking. She smiled at me and shook her head.

Don't continue that thought dear. You're beautiful too. You may not think it because of your size but I assure you I would kill for your perfect hourglass figure and bright blue eyes. I felt heat creeping to my cheeks and shook my head. No, I needed to focus.

"Sylvia what can you tell me about the school you were forced to go to?" Her face fell.

"Not much unfortunately."

"Why is there so many secrets?"

"Most of it is to protect us fates. There are things we can do that the reapers aren't aware of and not all reapers are good people like my family. I know Aiden would hide thing from you but when it comes down to it our world is not very kind."

"Like humans are any better?" She grinned.

"No I suppose not. But we fates knew that if some the reapers in charge knew the full extent of our powers they would take advantage of us and use us in ways that could potentially destroy all life but us."

"Is that even possible?" She shrugged.

"Look I can't say too much Letty but I can say this. The human world and my world need reform bad. You're children will have a part in the reform of our world. Your daughter will be the last date whisked away at five. I can't tell you much more than that but just trust me. I'll keep her safe in school. She'll be more powerful than even our oldest fate, she knows already and welcomes the change. We will keep her safe until it is time for her and her brother to do what they are destined for." I didn't know what to say.

"Will you tell me as much as you can when you can?" She was quiet for a minuet.

"I will. I promise." I nodded satisfied with her answer. I went to walk out of the room when I heard her gasp. I turned but whatever she had seen had already passed.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Your friend and Adam are on their way. She bares his mark and soon his son." She said with a smile. I felt happy but worried at the same time. I wasn't sure how I was going to explain everything to Teighlor. I hadn't thought that far ahead. Sylvia placed her hand on my shoulder snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Don't worry you'll be fine." She said giving me a smile. I nodded.

"Thank you Sylvia." I said touching my stomach again.

"Oh Letty I forgot to mention. Tell Teighlor to stop taking her Lexapro just like you did when you got pregnant." I looked at her confused.

"Mines only for when I need it. I didn't stop taking it completely. Will it hurt them?" I added alarm filling my voice.

"Not the children, nothing could hurt the children of death, trust me. No it will make it harder for Aiden and in her case Adam to turn you and her before the birthing process kills you." I shuddered at her words. "Ummm maybe that wasn't my best choice of words."

"I knew that Aiden will have to make me an immortal I'm just not exactly sure how or when." I shuddered at the thought.

"Well I can at least tell you that. If you want of course."

"Will Aiden get mad if you tell me?" I didn't want her and Aiden to fight because of me and my rampant curiosity about Aidens world. She paused for a moment and thought. After a few minuets she smiled and shook her head.

"No I think he'd rather me explain it then him try to since he's never seen it done or obviously done it but I've seen it and have done it. Obviously considering a fate is required for it." I looked at her more confused.

"Why is a fate required?" I asked confused.

"I will explain that in a bit but first have you been to see one of our doctors yet?." I shook my head.

"No not yet I have an appointment for next month though."

"Oh right sorry you're only in your second month. How silly of me. Yes in your third month, the end of your first trimester, is when it begins. The children's powers will start to form and it is very slow but the powers start to destroy the human mothers body from the inside. By the time it is time for you to give birth the children's powers will have rotted your womb. They will have to be cut from you it will not be a vaginal birth, it never is for humans that birth our kind. You will not be allowed pain meds as that will weaken your heart too much for me to do my job. As the last child's, or in most cases only child's, umbilical cord is cut you will start to die quickly. I will have to splice Aidens soul, half of it at least, to the remaining half of yours which causes you to become an immortal. It is rare but sometimes the human will wake as a demon or an Angel. As I said though it's very rare."

"Will it hurt Aiden to do this?" Sylvia shook her head.

"No and don't worry one good thing about us supernatural creatures is our soul grows back. Don't ask how I can't explain it to you since it's forbidden." I nodded understanding.

"Will it hurt me?" She thought for a moment and frowned.

"Unfortunately yes.you see technically by the end of the second trimester it is the twins who are using their powers to keep you alive out of their own instinct for survival. Once the children are separated from your body you will start to die slowly. As I splice Yours and Aidens souls they will begin to stitch you up. When you wake from your transformation although your womb will be completely dead you will be completely healed otherwise. Do not worry my lively cousin it will not cause you any pain but rather eons of pleasure. You and Aiden will no longer have to worry about protection." She said the last part with a wink and I felt a blush creeping to my cheeks.

"I'm frightened Sylvia. What will I see during the ultrasound?"

"You're fear is natural Letty. Imagine our dismay when the first human mothers of our kind died before we learned about the soul mates being compatible with soul splicing. It was merely an experiment the first successful time. As for the ultrasounds. Until you enter your final trimester when the children start to keep you alive it will look like and feel like your children are stillborn but don't fret I assure you they are not."

"How will I explain that to my family and friends?" I said with my hand still resting on my stomach.

"They will look alive and well in the photos just do not expect ultrasound videos or kicks until the final trimester. Until then just say they are asleep." She said nonchalantly.

"Thank you Sylvia. You have no idea how much talking to you comforts me." She smiled.

"No I know full well how it does. That's why I do it. That and out of love and commitment to my family." She smiled. "And family to be." She said with a wink. What was that about. "Now then Aiden is looking for you." I didn't question her but rather just nodded and followed her out of the room. Aiden soon found me as Sylvia and I walked into the main room of the house. He pulled me into his arms quickly and kissed the top of my head.

"There you are love. I was beginning to wonder where my cousin had whisked you off to. Adam and Teighlor are on the way. He called me a bit ago to tell me. He said she calmed down a lot but was still slightly freaked out. Especially about the whole mark on her neck."

"Can't say I blame her." I said with a sigh recalling my own surprise at first. "All of this." I said gesturing all around me. "Is a lot to take in."

"I suppose it wouldn't be as bad if someone were a devout Christian." Aiden said with a shrug. "I mean don't they believe in Angels and Demons anyway?" I rolled my eyes and stood on my tip toes to kiss his cheek.

"My love almost all religions have Angels and Demons in one way or the other." He nodded.

"Yes most do but, not all of them do. You for example. You didn't believe in Angels or Demons." I chuckled.

"I did to a degree. It was more that we as humans have the potential to be influenced by the good, our angels, or give in to what is considered to be bad based on the laws of the universe which would be our demons. I didn't believe them to be separate entities from ourselves, that much is true. I have never believed a person was born good or evil though either. I have always believed what we become is shaped by how we perceive the world around us and how we are raised. Not just by our families though but by our communities as well." Aiden arched one of his brows at me.

"Remind me to never pick your brain on the concepts of religion or philosophy." He said with a chuckle. I looked confused.

"Why?" I asked pulling away from him.

"Because my love I could get lost in your mind, constantly trying to pick apart the woods and see things the way you do. It would take a very long time I'm sure. I think you'd probably get bored or frustrated by my questions eventually. I'm just intrigued by the way you think though. Are there many humans who share your views in religion, life and other things?" He asked wrapping me in his arms again. I shrugged.

"Remember I'm socially awkward. I don't really talk to people. Besides my friends that is."

"Still I would hate to think there is not one person in this world who shares your thoughts." I giggled.

"I am certain there are people who agree with different parts of my thoughts but as far as all my thoughts I don't believe so." Aidens smile widened.

"Is this why psychology interests you so much?" I smiled.

"Took you long enough to figure out my fascination with the brain and pretty much everything to do with it. Aiden smiled and his brother Diedritch walked by and groaned.

"I swear the two of you are enough to give me a cavity." He said smiling. I blushed.

"Hey Diedritch." I said giving him a warm smile. Aidens arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I inwardly groaned about his over protectiveness.

"Hey Letty. How are my niece and nephew treating you?" He asked, his eyes starting to my stomach.

"Good for the most part. I consider myself to be lucky, no morning sickness, nothing terrible." I said placing a hand there gently. His golden gaze flashed up to meet my eyes and he smiled.

"Good I'm glad to hear. Brother I'm sorry to interrupt your sweet moment with this lovely woman but Marcel, Tobias and myself need your help with fathers gift." He said with a slight wink. Aiden looked confused at first but then in an instant he seemed to understand as mouthed the word 'oh' to his brother and nodded.

"Letty I'll be back soon my love. Go have a seat over in the sitting room, give your feet a rest." I nodded and he kissed my cheek before following his brother.

I walked into the sitting room on the couch next

to Ariel who was nursing a baby. I had forgotten she had gone into labor the last time I had seen her. She smiled warmly at me as I sat down.

"Letty how are you darling?" She asked as I propped my feet up.

"I'm well, how are you and the baby?" She smiled at the child in her arms.

"Would you like to hold him?" She asked as she repositioning the baby to burp him.

"May I?" I asked. She nodded and after a few successful burps laid the now drowsy baby in my arms. I studied the little guy as his eyes opened to register who I was. They were golden eyes but there was a blue ring around the outside of his pupils. His skin was soft and a beautiful caramel color. Dark curls were sparse on his little head. He was adorable and after deciding he could trust me he kicked his blanket he was swaddled in with his left foot then fell asleep.

"Looks like my little Zach likes you." Ariel said beaming at me.

"He's adorable. I'm so happy for you and Blaine." Ariel sighed.

"Will you be ok for a second if I go to the bathroom?" She asked. I nodded and gently rocked the sleeping child against me. She smiled at me and left me sitting on the couch. I just watched the sleeping child and smiled. Was this what it works be like when my twins were born?

After a few moments Ariel came back and as of sensing his mother Zachary let out a cry and started to wiggle in my arms. Ariel laughed and scooped the little guy up out of my arms.

"I guess he had to go to the bathroom too." She said feeling his diaper. I smiled at her.

"Guess so." She kissed her sons head and grabbed the bag I hadn't seen at the end of the couch.

"Be right back again." She said walking off towards the bathroom again. I nodded. I stood and smoothed my dress out before making my way towards one of the people I saw walking around with trays of drinks. They were all obviously alcoholic but I wanted to see if I could get something to drink such as water or orange juice. I was knew Sylvia said very little to nothing would harm the children but I didn't want to take any chances.

"Hi umm sorry to bother you is there a chance I could get a glass of water or orange juice?" I asked approaching a server. His golden eyes glanced me up and down before a smug expression crossed his face.

"Ugh get it yourself human. I can't believe they're bringing another human into this family."

"I'm sorry but what's so wrong with being a human?" I asked feeling a bit of anger build in me.

"Other then the fact that your species is the weakest?." My fist clenched. I could hear the hated gushing from him.

"Keep being a dick and I'll show you how weak I am." He rolled house eyes.

"I'd love to see a weak, stupid, fat human try to hurt me. Ugh could you be more pathetic." I was about to say something when I felt a hand on the small of my back.

"Put your tray in the kitchen and leave you're fired." Aiden practically growled. The server look terrified.

"You're defending a human?" The guy was in disbelief.

"You're talking to the human who bares my children." His arm wrapped around me and brushed my hair away from my mark. The guy looked angry.

"Consider our friendship over." The server turned and left with an attitude that shifted the air.

"I'm sorry." Aiden said turning me to face him. I looked up at him and smiled.

"It's ok I have a feeling he just had a bad experience with humans so I don't take it personally. If you hadn't intervened though I might of hit him." Aiden smiled.

"I don't doubt that." He kissed my forehead. "Letty come with me. My father asked for one thing from me for his birthday and I would love to show you." I nodded and took my boyfriends hand. He lead me out the back door into a huge garden. A lot of his family, friends and family friends were now milking about in the garden. His brothers were surrounding a grill laughing and smiling about something. This felt just like any barbecue I had ever been to just fancier. Aiden led me over to a fountain almost in the middle of the garden.

"Oh wow this fountain is huge." I said looking at it. I saw fish swimming around. I leaned a little closer to see the fish more clearly.

"Letty." Aidens voice sounded from behind me. I turned and saw the man I loved on one knee holding a black velvet box. I felt my breath get caught in my throat.

"Aiden what are you doing?" I asked. My mind was refusing to believe what I was seeing.

"Letty I know we've only been together a short time but well obviously you're my soul mate. There's nothing I wouldn't do to make you smile. I love you and come February I will have two children birthed into this world by the most amazing woman I could ask for to mother my children. Will you marry me?" He opened the box to reveal a thin silver band with a beautiful moonstone with two smaller onyx stones on both sides. I smiled even wider and felt I was going to cry.

"Of course." I managed to choke out. He slid the ring on my finger and stood to kiss me. The tears were falling now.

"Before you ask yes my father really did say for his birthday he wants the mother of his soon to be grandchildren to become my wife. He's very fond of you." I laughed. It finally registered in my brain that everyone else was cheering and clapping. He had done this on purpose. We turned to face everyone. We sat with his brothers and their wives. I paid my head on Aiden and just lost myself in the conversation.

By the time his mother and father were expected Teighlor and Adam had just shown up. I explained to Teighlor we didn't have a moment to talk now but we would soon. We all prepared for My future in-laws to walk through the door. When they finally did Aidens dad jumped and I swore we almost gave the poor guy a heart attack, if that was possible. A smile soon appeared on his face and his sons approached him. Aiden beckoned me forward with him and I followed. When his dad finally addressed him Aiden grabbed my hand and showed him the ring. His parents both pulled me into a tight hug.

"I'm so happy to have been given another daughter and two more grandchildren on the way." His mother whispered to me.

"Yes I could not say it better." His father agreed. I pulled away from them and smiled. Aiden quickly whisked me away though.

"Your best friend is waiting very patiently. I can cover for you for thirty minuets." He kissed my cheek and I nodded. I waisted no time in grabbing my best friends wrist and leading her upstairs to a room where I knew almost no one would hear us.

"Ok what the hell is going on? What's with this tattoo in my neck and the one on yours that I'm only now noticing." Teighlors voice was clearly more distressed then she appeared. I took a deep breath.

"These are marks that we have been mated to our proper soul mate. We're only just noticing these marks because well we are mates to non humans. Through these marks we inherit some ability to see and sense more then regular humans." God that sounded better in my head.

"So Adam really isn't human?" She asked. I shook my head.

"No. He's a reaper just like Aiden. Just like my soon to be children will be." She looked at me in horror.

"How is that possible?" I shrugged.

"Because I'm pregnant with a reapers children. It will be the same for you and Adam when you bare his child." She looked happy about having kids with Adam but then looked confused.

"You say child like I'm only having one. You know I want four." I sighed.

"I know but unfortunately given the fact we are both human baring a child that is not human will literally kill us. Don't look so alarmed though. Sylvia, Aidens cousin that came to the bar with us is a fate." She looked even more confused.

"A fate?" I nodded.

"A female reaper with slightly different powers then a regular reaper. They can see the future to a degree and something called soul splicing. It only works if you are with your proper mate though."

"That doesn't sound fun." I smiled at her.

"Basically the instant the twins are removed from me while I'm being stitched up Sylvia is going to attach a piece of Aidens soul to mine to prevent me from dieing, after which I will be an immortal. Don't look so concerned it won't hurt anyone and the piece taken from them grows back relatively quickly from what Sylvia told me."

"So you won't actually die?" I shook my head.

"I'll have to introduce you to Aidens aunt Natalia, she was a human." Teighlor nodded.

"You're not in any danger I promise. I know it's kinda scary at first but I promise you that Adam will do anything to make you happy and be solely devoted to you." She smiled and nodded.

"It's just so much to take in." I contemplated telling her about angels and demons for a moment.

"There's more. Anyone with golden eyes are reapers. Anyone with yellow, black, red or an unearthly glowing green or blue eyes are demons. There are also angels with blue or brown eyes too. Until you learn how to tell the difference I can point it out to you, or Adam will."

"Did you just say angels and demons?" She looked even more confused. I nodded.

"Yes reapers aren't the only supernatural entities that live around us." She looked concerned.

"Are they dangerous?" I shrugged.

"No more then reapers or other humans. Actually Vanessa is a demon, her real name is Astrid." I watched my best friend relax. I heard laughter downstairs.

"Unfortunately sis well have to continue talking some other time but I do think you should discuss your doubts and concerns with Adam. He can answer just about anything you want to know." I squeezed her hand as I took it in mine. She must of felt the ring I had forgotten about because she pulled my hand up for her to see.

"Care to explain?" I blushed.

"Aiden asked me to marry him before you guys showed up." She squealed.

"Oh please tell me someone took pictures." I nodded.

"Ariel has a video and between Natalia, Sylvia and Lily I think there's more then enough photos. Actually I should have them send me some." I said smiling and slowly shaking my head.

"Well let's get back to the party. If you're sure I don't need to worry then I believe you." I nodded and lead my sister back to the party. Tonight was definitely a night to celebrate.

Not only had the love of my life made the biggest commitment next to marriage but he had done it in such a way that I could not of asked for anything better. My father in-law to be turned eight hundred and him and the whole family was extremely happy I was joining their family. The biggest celebration for me though was that one day my best friend would be an immortal with me. I never had to say good bye to my sister. I silently thanked whoever because I knew I would never be alone. My life was complete. Well almost.
