"I know it for a fact. I've known your father before. And he has never been a fan of me so." explained Ava.
"yeah. I don't care what he thinks about who I hang out with you know. I'm done having my life controlled. it's just so frustrating. "
"see. you do have something your keeping from me and I've been blurbing about myself all this time forgetting to ask how your doing."
"I don't wanna talk about it. please?"
"really? okay. I can tell you anything about me. ask me anything and I will tell you the truth and in return, you tell me what's bothering you. so you could get it off your chest."
"why? why would you do that? "
"I love carrying people's burdens. " replied Ava chuckling. " seriously. I just want you to feel ease talking to be. i don't want you to be an open book obviously but if we are friends then I would love telling you everything."
"you think so?"
"I know so. now tell me what's bothering you?"
"Okay, it's kinda silly."
"tell me already. you've been keeping me waiting. I even gave a speech." nagged Ava as she parked outside her cottage heading inside.
"alright. but let's first head in." responded Kara as they both took a straw inside.
"okay. now spit it out."
"alright... hooo.... okay. My father knows I'm interested in women, he is been trying to hide it and told me to never say it to anyone."started Kara.
"okay. right! I knew something was off. tell me, how did he find out?"
"when I was um... fourteen, A few days before I lost my older sister, she told my dad about my sexuality just to help me come out. she left him a letter and he read it, he didn't come to me, he went to Danna asking her to take it back or something, I don't know. But the next day, Danna woke up sick and in two days, she passed away. my father has been blaming me for her death all these years. having me feel disgraced about myself. I kind of think it was my fault. if only I didn't let her come out for me."
"your sister was ill? I'm sorry to ask."
"yeah. she had pressure. it usually went on and off."
"I'm so sorry about Danna. I really don't know what to say. I don't think it's your fault that she passed. what happened? I know something happened yesterday."
"well... You drove me home the night before and he saw you. then he made sure to remind me what my sexuality brought to the family."
"I'm sorry about that. so what are you to do?"
"I don't care about what he says, it's not like I'm going to start dating you. I know what it brings to life but also I know that I'm thankful I got you into mine."
"you are?" inquired Ava snapped by a knock at the door.
"yeah. No one has ever kept an eye for me or stood up for me either. why would I want to loose you. I would be silly."
"I'm glad I could be right there by you."
Ava opened the door and out were two gentlemen delivering the couch that was set at the trunk of the car they came in.
"thank you. we don't wanna disturb you too much but could you help set them inside? " asked Ava.
"Sure miss Sinclair. show where it's placed and we will be glad to do it." replied the bold guy who still sat in the car.
"Alright. we both shall take out the old couch and you will put in the new one? how is that?"
"it's alright. we can take out the old couch as well for you ladies." said the guy on the outside.
"Alright. that would be fair for us ladies. please do." responded Ava showing them both in then heading out standing on the side.
in a couple of minutes, the gentlemen were out done leading Ava and Kara inside who sat staring at each other.
By nine in the evening Kara was already planning on heading back home and Ava driving her off. Had a close talk about there old times losing truck of time.
"should I drive you home ? or it will be awkward? "
"yeah. I don't wanna walk there by myself. could be the worst. it's already night."
"your a rebel ain't you? " asked Ava chuckling.
"you think so? no I'm not. "
They both got to live the seating space clean, Ava handed Kara one of her jackets from then took hers and headed out to drive her home.
Had a quiet journey to Kara's as she got cozy in Ava's jacket. They arrived the gate bidding each other farewell.
Yet again, as Ava's doing, she waited for Kara to head inside then drove off back.
As soon as Kara got in, his father grabbed her by the arm sitting her at the window couch brutally.
"what did I tell you about the Sinclair girl?" asked he.
"about what father?"
"Her behaviours. I told you to stop being around her. she is just few days in town and she's your only friend?"
"I've done nothing wrong father. you don't need to yell at me."
"I can speak to you how ever I please. you brought disgrace to this house and this family. "
"stop dad. please stop." replied Kara getting from the seat and running up the stairs.
"I wish it was you." snapped the mayor having Kara turning in question.
"you wish it was I that did what dad? that died. you wish it was I?"
"Head on to your bedroom. go." responded he having Kara run up sobbing to herself and up her bedroom she got locking herself on the inside.
