GYM CLASS CHAOS

Coach Williams was our gym teacher. Had you met him? He was also the coach of our football team. He was known to be a werewolf who was mean as hell.

Well, the first half of it was true.

He didn't live up to the second part. I never sensed any meanness from him. He was strict though, and reminded me of pack training with some of my previous instructors.

He also only answered to "Coach".

The girls pretty much hated him from the onset. He might be the least popular male werewolf I had ever met. But I think he was just doing his job.

Coach blew on the whistle. Jasmine and Pearl winced at the shrill sound. It's just a normal drill whistle. I looked at the guys, they didn't seem to mind it. I guess we were used to having a whistle blasted at us on a regular basis.

We gathered around Coach on the gym floor. Arlene and Elena were not well. It was that time of the month for them. Of course Coach would know they were lying, his werewolf sense would've smelled the absence of blood, but maybe he just didn't want to deal with imaginary PMS.

"Go sit on the side." He told them.

They immediately go sit with Pearl who was on a permanent medical cert to sit out of all physical activities and Maria who was also permanently allowed to sit out because she was medically a vampire.

The rest of us got to play dodge ball in teams of four.

For some reason, all the girls immediately formed teams with other girls. They didn't look like they were looking for the strongest team to join, more like the friendliest. That's just suicide.

Jasmine got roped into Abigail's team, she gave me an apologetic look, but I just waved it off with a shrug.

The guys on the other hand were all vying to be on Liam's team. He naturally had Henry, and Marcus, but was one man short. Henry called out to me, "Wanna join us Sam?"

"But she's a girl!" Troy complained loudly.

"She'd throw better than you." Henry told him grinning.

I walked over, "Yeah, I'll join you guys."

"Be careful, Sam." Marcus cautioned, "The boys play pretty rough."

I smiled at that. Back home, they usually say, "Be careful of Sam."

"Coach! There's a girl on their team!" Troy complained to Coach.

Coach gave our team a once over, he seemed a little surprised when he met my eyes, "Are you alright to play?"

"Yeah." I said.

Coach considered it a bit, and then he said, "Be careful."

Then he blew his whistle, "Alright, Liam's Team... on the right. All other teams line up to challenge. 2 teams at a time. I'll treat drinks to whichever teams defeat Liam's"

The guys whooped, "You're going down, Henry!" And "Sorry Liam, we're going to trash you."

Henry said lowly to me, "You just shifted, Sam. So keep your control steady. Don't throw too hard, they're just humans."

Okay...

And then to the others, he said, "Keep the princess safe."

Why did you ask me to join your team if you didn't mean for me to play?

And then Henry winked at me. That confused me so much I didn't even verbalize my protest, so was I supposed to play or not?

Marcus was growling, his wolf was on the edge... Wait, his wolf... Had he shifted recently too? When?

So all four of us were shifted?

The first two teams stepped up. For some reason, the humans decided to play ladies first and send a girls team up.

Jasmine looked worriedly at us.

I gave her a smile. Liam must have winked at her, because all the girls started giggling around her. She smiled back.

"Don't let those guys turn you to mush!" Troy yelled.

"Girls are so useless when it comes to cool guys." Another guy huffed.

"They can't help it, just leave it." Terrence told them.

Could I miss and throw the balls in their faces instead?

I felt my wolf surface for the hunt, wait no... Wolfie, you probably shouldn't play this one.

The whistle blew, there was a pause and then the girls started screaming and scrambling for the balls.

The five balls on our side of the court were untouched. I've dropped to the back so my Wolfie would calm down. And the three guys had not moved.

They lifted their hands and invited the girls to give it their best shot. Oh the cocky bastards. But I guess that's what made it fun for them when playing with girls. Flirting.

The girls shot one or two balls. But Henry caught the first with one hand, Liam caught the other with a smile.

Coach blew his whistle, "Out." The two girls who threw scurried off looking more relieved than anything else.

"We got to throw at the same time." Jasmine said. Clever girl. They had 6 balls in hand. We had 2, plus the 4 on the floor.

Marcus grinned and nudged two balls over to their side with his foot, "Yeah, you can try."

The hate from the other guys sparked from that.

"Cream them!" They shouted at the girls.

"Smash that show off in the face!"

The shouting just made the girls more nervous though. Stupid boys.

"One, two, throw!" Jasmine shouted. This helped the girls throw together, but unfortunately alerted us exactly when the balls were launched. The guys pretty much caught most of them. A couple were just thrown out on their own? I guess the girls missed.

Whistle went off. All the girls were out except the two that missed.

One of them was Abigail, and the other was one of those two girls that sat in front of me.

Henry tossed me the ball in his hand, "Take out anyone we can't catch. Gently, Sam. They're just girls."

I resisted the urge to throw the ball into his arrogant face. I'll show him 'just girls'.

But the two girls just threw the balls to the guys. And the game was over. I guessed they surrendered.

The next group was a boy's team. The boys were riled up. There were 10 of them, including Troy and Terrence. I don't think Troy and Terrence were supposed to be there. They just jumped in. Coach turned a blind eye. I guess he could see they needed all the help they could get.

I can't remember the names of the others... goddess, I'm as bad a Wolfie. Wait no, at least I could count.

Whistle blew and I caught a ball on reflex. It was Liam passing me one. I used it to hit away a ball that Henry dodged, also on reflex.

Everything else was a blur, it was noisy. The whistle was going off but I'm not sure to call out or just stop the game altogether.

Finally, there was a pause. I was still holding on to my ball. The guys were still all there. And there was three human boys left on the other side.

"It's the warlock! She's blessing their speed!" Shouted Troy from the sidelines, "Terrence, destroy the warlock!"

Wait, first of all, I wasn't a warlock. Second, that's not how warlocks worked (This wasn't a computer game). And third, you were going to take down a warlock with a ball?

Terrence threw a ball hard, but Henry caught it. The another boy threw from the other side, it got past Liam. I dropped the ball I was holding and caught it.

He was out.

But he threw another one just as Liam let down his guard.

"Hey, that's an out!" Marcus shouted.

I kicked the ball mid air and sent it straight back to the other side.

Terrence ran to catch it, but it was going too fast, so instead of catching it with his hands as he planned, he caught it with his eye.

The sound on the ball's impact to his face... it wasn't pleasant.

Terence was thrown on his back.

There was a collective gasp and then panicked tittering. Coach blew his whistle long and shrill.

"I don't think you burst his eyeball." Henry offered me a smile and pat on my shoulder.

"Are you alright?" Marcus asked me.

Shouldn't he be asking Terrence that?

Liam had gone over to check it out. He returned with Coach a short while later.

"Okay, who threw that?" Coach asked.

"I did." Henry said, "It was an accident."

Coach nodded, "Accidents happen."

Wait, but I...

Then coach said, "Have you guys found a club? You're all good for the football team... Except the girl." He quickly added to me before growling lowly, "It's too bad though, you've got a good kick."

Coach returned to where Terrence was on the floor, surrounded by some of the other boys, "Henry, come apologize."

I stared at their retreating backs, then I followed. I didn't need Henry to take the rap for me.

"Sam! Wait!" Marcus and Liam chased up to us.

Terrence was sitting up, the guys around him parted to glare at Henry.

"Sorry. It was an accident." Henry said, his voice quiet and firm.

"Wait, it was my fault." I said. "Sorry Terrence."

Terrence gave me a wobbly smile, "It's not your fault, don't worry."

Seeing that I wasn't even convinced he forced a laugh, "It doesn't even hurt!"

I looked at his swollen eye. It definitely had to hurt.

"It's not your fault." Henry told me, his voice was calm.

"Yeah, you didn't even throw the ball!" Troy's loud voice blasted from my side, "Henry, you bastard! You think you're better than anyone else!"

"F*** off. It was an accident." Henry growled.

"So what! Do you think a sorry would cut it?" Troy yelled.

Wait, weren't all of you watching? I was the one who kicked the ball!

"Stop shouting, Troy!" Terrence looked upset now, "You'll make Sam cry."

He'll make me what now?

"She's a warlock Terrence!" Troy reminded him, "A warlock!"

"Shut up! Shut up!" Terrence was so mad now, he had turned red in the face.

Henry put his arm out to shield me.

Liam stepped up too.

"Issokay." He soothed.

"But--" Troy started.

"Shut up." Liam said.

And that was that.

Coach stepped in after that. Liam helped Terrence up and they decided to have Terrence taken to the infirmary.

On the way out, Terrence passed me and said, "I know you're concerned about me..."

Liam gave me a weak smile and dragged him away.

What the hell was that?

But I had other more pressing issues to deal with.

"Henry, I don't need you to take the rap for me!" I growled at the other alpha.

"Trust me, Sam, it's just easier this way." Henry assured me.

"I don't care what is easier. I can take the rap for my own mess ups." I refused to be placated.

Henry sighed, "Sam, you're a girl. Think about that."

I'm a girl, so what? What the hell was I supposed to be thinking of? That's like asking me to write an essay to answer a true or false question.

Suddenly I noticed Maria smiling creepily, watching the class. I turned my attention to what she was looking at.

The girls were taking the guy who threw the ball at me to task, "What did you think you were doing, Ivan?" Pearl was leading it. Whatever possessed her to get off the bench to join in the fray? "How can you throw a ball so hard at a girl?"

I shot Maria a suspicious look, but she didn't acknowledge it.

"Look, she's not a girl, she's a warlock!" The boy argued.

Now the cool girls were on his case too, "What do you mean by that?" Zara was loyal and fierce, "Do you know she is a princess? What do you think would happen if you actually hit her!"

"That's not cool, Ivan." Krystal tutted at him.

Ivan's face ashened, I don't know why but being told he wasn't cool by Krystal really cut him, "No! I mean, how was I supposed to know she was a princess?"

"Duh, it's so obvious." Zara told him, "Idiot."

"Sam is a princess?" Troy asked loudly, "Are you sure?"

Jasmine nodded quickly, "Urm yes."

Jasmine was a really bad liar.

"Her father is chief of a northern land bordering the warlock forest." Henry provided.

"Yes." Jasmine said. Sounding a little more convinced about it now.

"So why is a warlock princess in our school?" Abigail wanted to know.

Wait, nobody said I was a warlock princess. Why wasn't anyone correcting her? Was anyone actually listening properly?

"She was cursed by a warlock. But her prince saved her, didn't you see him yesterday?" Zara said.

What had that got to do with anything?

"The cool guy that came to class yesterday?" Abigail asked.

"Definitely." Krystal said.

Definitely not! Don't make things up with such a certainty in your tone!

"Oh wow." Abigail said, her eyes shining.

"He's from some fancy private school, Green Leaf Academy." Zara told her, "They're having a concert in March, and we're going to watch."

That was also totally unrelated information. Since when did I agree they could come? I wasn't even sure if I would go.

Wait, now I'm distracted! I can't even remember what the point was... Oh yeah, I wasn't a warlock, I wasn't a warlock princess, and could someone stop those girls from weaving up weird stories about me?
