A few moments later, Beta Lucas and Ben were at our home. Dad and Beta Lucas started discussing quietly. Ben came and sat next to me, "You okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I replied coolly.
Actually, I was still unsettled. Alpha James wouldn't do something like this. I was sure of it. But Killion, I was sure he was telling the truth too. Something didn't add up. I told Ben about it.
Ben was quiet. He was thinking too. So we just sat together thinking.
Harvey came back after a while, "I've moved my truck to the pack house garage, so it looks like only your family is here."
Mum and Savy woke up a few minutes later.
"What happened?" Mum asked.
"You fainted." I said.
"I've never fainted in my life!" Mum protested.
Savy blinked and looked around, "Did Ki faint too?"
All eyes turned to Killion's sleeping form on the armchair.
I shook my head, "He's just sleeping."
Dad and Beta Lucas rejoined us around the living room coffee table and after recounting Killion's request, explained the plan to us.
Dad wanted to see what the rogue were up to and if what Killion predicted would come true. The plan would be to let them slip in and then capture the rogues, alive. Dad gave me a look when he stressed the word "alive".
I crossed my arms, but said nothing.
I was beginning to realize that I wasn't going to get to go for Thursday training again. And the realization was really dampening my mood. Did rogues work Thursday night shifts?
"We keep missing Thursday training." I complained.
"Maybe we could postpone it to combine with Friday training this week." Beta Lucas suggested.
That's the above 18 unmated wolves! I'm a little bit more excited. We'd be training with real warriors. It was hard to stay angry at the rogues for spoiling my night now.
At least this time Harvey was with us, so he could mindlink the Morning Light teens that training tonight was postponed and save them the ride over.
Mum and Savy would be with Mrs Beta and Lizzy. Ben would stay with them. Mum wanted me to join them, but Dad said better to let me stay where the guys could keep an eye on me. Pffftttt... yeah, keep an eye on me and watch me kick rogue butt!
To my utter surprise, mum considered it, and decided that was probably better too.
Ben didn't look happy at the arrangement, but he didn't protest either. I had actually expected him to. I was beginning to worry a little about Ben. He had been pensive lately. But we had rogues on our hands right now, so I didn't have the luxury of seeking out the cause of Ben's emo mood.
Thus it was decided that Dad, Beta Lucas, Harvey, Killion and I would stay to capture the wolves. Gamma Harry had been alerted and would take warriors to seal the exits after the rogues got it. This should safeguard the rest of the town.
Now we just needed a plan for exactly what to do when the rogues showed up. I had noticed how Killion had taken care to put the flowers back exactly as they were. So far, I guess the general unspoken understanding was to make everything look unsuspecting by replicating our family's usual evening.
According to Killion, they stormed all the bedrooms at the same time. So... in the end, all of us would have to be bait. Dad and Beta Lucas in Mum and Dad's room, me in my room, and Harvey in Savy's room, and Killion in his own room.
We would capture the rogues alive and keep them in the basement. Then if all went well, we would pass them over to Gamma Harry and Jonah to bring them to the dungeons for interrogation.
Nobody said this out loud, but it was definitely thought about: If the Lorents were messing with us, there would be hell to pay. I could sense it by the way the men growled very lowly whenever the word "Lorent" was uttered.
This still troubled me very much.
Then again, everyone was troubled by this, besides Killion who was sleeping like a baby. To everyone else, the Lorent Pack had always been on good terms with us, and none of us had ever thought Alpha James was less than a fair and trustworthy wolf.
At least in all his dealing with Dad all these years, he had been nothing less than equitable, if not just a little stubborn and extravagant.
But I remembered Killion's pain as he spoke of that night, and the words he had said before about his past life, "I was betrayed and sold."
Killion was the heir to the Lorent's Beta family. Suddenly, many of the mysterious pieces about him clicked in place, his pure white wolf, his beta training, and the fact that the Lorent Pack no longer had a Beta, so that Alpha James' brother was in the beta position.
Wait... But Rebel was also captured by rogues and sold as a fight dog. I mean, it was one thing to get rid of the Beta family, it was another to get rid of your own heir!
I remembered the unshed tears and the pain written on his face whenever Alpha James spoke of his son.
There was definitely something afoot, but we had too many missing pieces to figure out this puzzle. But we were going to get to the bottom of this. We had to.
This attack was hitting somewhat too close to home. Hahaha, I mean, it was literally hitting home. My home!
