Chapter 7

PRESENT DAY~

"Kater you have to be kidding me right now, this is the fifth time he has ditched you" Cam complains again, "he has been busy that's why, even me I have ditched him two times" I tell her trying to defend Jax,it's almost three years since we started dating and Cam is fed up with the way he has been canceling our dates at the last minute but he has been busy and I can't force him to stop what he was doing and come for the date.

"Come on Kater,stop being so naive your smarter than that" Cam tells me and that has defintely offended me, "okey that hurt me a lot but you know I can't force him to come over" I tell her clearly hurt, "I didn't mean to hurt you but think about it,there is something fishy here.A relationship is between two people, its how both of them are supposed to commite to it not one of you" she argues as we enter the cafeteria, "there is no use in arguing with you,you don't like him that's why you find a fault with him but I trust him" I tell her moving to the line pissed,can't she just stop blaming him.

The lunch lady serves me and I make my way to the group leaving Cam behind,we have been close with Zayn's group of late and their amazing.I see Jax seated there and I sit next to him, "hey sweetheart,I missed you" he whispers to me and pecks my lips, "am sorry for yesterday,I was really busy" he apology and I just smile, "its okey"

"Hey Kater please tell me you don't want your apple, the lunch lady is in a bad mood today" Mace pleads with me and Alice hits his head, "you already ate yours stop lying" she scold him, "real smooth Alice, you know the lunch lady gave me the rotten one,I don't know why she hates me so much" he mutter showing us the apple and they laugh at him, "maybe she has a crush on you and she's mad you never noticed" Brad jokes and Mace fakes a laugh, "yeah she can't blame me, look at her not my type" he mutters and they laugh.

"Here you can take mine,I wasn't in the mood of eating it even" I say pushing my plate for him to take, "you are a life saver" he mutters before taking a huge bite.I take my food back and eat the rice the lunch lady has cooked,this food is tasteless,Jax puts his arm over my shoulder pulling me to him, "you don't like the food?" He asks and I nod, "its tasteless" I pushed away my plate again, "here we can share mine,my aunt cooks really nice" he says praising his aunt,he really loves his aunt, "that I know" I tell him taking a bit of his food.

The whole lunch break I ignore Cam knowing she will always find a fault in what Jax does.As am making my way to class I notice some people gathering at the notice board,so I make my way there to see if its important.I notice Macy is there so I tap her shoulder to ask her what's going on, "hey, what are you struggling to look at?" I ask and she points to a poster,I try to look at it but am short sighted and am lazy to take my glasses.

"Can't see,what does it say?" I ask her, "its an opportunity for students whose careers are like writing or being an author to the best publishing company" she explains and I struggle again to see, "but you need qualification for that" I tell her confused and she shakes her head, "they are training people and showing them how work operates there,too bad my career is for being a designer" she curses and I giggle, "which company is that?"

"Uum the Linches' publishers,rumoars go round that the CEO is really hot" she says winking at me, "well too bad am taken, when is the deadline?" I ask again and she checks again, "I think by the end of this week" she says and I take my phone to take a picture of it, "that's really soon" I mutter and take a picture, "yeah are you going to apply?" She asks as we make our way through the hall, "maybe but am not sure, its sound like a great opportunity" I tell her and she nods, "well I will see you later" she waves at me as we split up.

The rest of the day goes fast and I reach home fast,I find Cam watching the television and I just head to the kitchen taking some apple juice.She pauses whatever she was watching and comes my way, "hey are you still mad at me?" I rolled my eyes to her dumb question, "well I think that's a yes,look am sorry how I talked to you, I have no right to judge your relationship with Jax" she apologise and I nod my head, "your forgiven" I say taking a gulp of the juice and look at her,one thing I can't do is stay mad at Cam for long plus am itching to tell her about the poster.

I remove my phone from my bag and show her the picture, "look here" I tell her motioning to her,she zooms it and reads her eyes going wide, "Kater you should totally apply for this,its a great opportunity" she says and I nod, "maybe I will apply but what if they don't pick me,am sure there will be so many people applying for this" I mutter and she snorts, "am sure theif going to pick you,you have passed all the test that you have done,why would they deny you plus it's not bad to try" she says taking out my new laptop.

She enters the link through web and turns it to me so that I can fill the blanks,I answer all the questions giving every detail of it while Cam rubs a little salt to it, "send it" she encourages noticing my hesitation, "am not sure about this" I mutter looking at how have answered them and she takes the computer from me, "then I will do it,click" she says pressing the enter button and I watch it being sent to the best publishing company in New York.

"Only two days till I get the answer" I say looking at the computer as she turns it off, "oh it will be good,am sure they will accept you.Imagine you working for the best publishing company" she says throwing her arms in the air, "and you know the CEO of that place is so hot,I usually drool over him everytime I see him in the magazines.Let me show you his pic at the internet" she says browsing and I see the internet is so slow.

"Dang it, with this rate it will take ages" she curses and turns it off, "I will show you later,but it is said that he's one of the hottest bachelors in NYC" she says and I giggle, "I can tell, your already dreaming with him" I say and she jumps from the counter stool, "too bad the internet is so slow,I would have shown you his pictures.He's so dreamy and a billioner what else could a girl want from a man" she says throwing herself to the couch, "you know his one of the youngest richest billioners,I think his 26 years" she continues and I take a bag of chips to listen to her.

"If you say he's that handsome how comes he doesn't have a girlfriend or is he a playboy?" I ask her and she steals some chips from me, "that whats people say but you don't know the real him,all I know his so dreamy and successful" she shrugs and I just chuckle, "how comes you have never seen him?" She asks confused, "I guess am not a social media person like you" I shrug and turn my head to watch what she was watching.

It has been two days since I applied for the opportunity in the company and the day is already over for them to repley. "Have they replied to your application?" Cam asks me and I shake my head no, "thats odd it really late" she says and I nod, "maybe they have refused my application" I sigh and plop myself to the coach eating the popcorn near me, "don't give up there is still time" she says rubbing my back and I hear a phone ring.

"Your phone is ringing" I tell her and she shakes her head no, "maybe its yours, you have never gotten your ringtone" she says and I look for my phone wherever it is, "well its you who keeps changing it,how would I know its mine" I complain finding the phone and frown showing an unknown number, "who is it?" She asks and I shake my head,she looks at it for a moment, "it can be the company" she says and my mouth forms a 'o'.

"Hello" I answer waiting for the caller to say anything, "good evening,is this Kater Mendes?" The person asks and I nod my head noticing she can't see me I answer her, "um yeah and who is this?" I ask her confused, "am from the Linches' publisher and am calling you about the application you gave us" she explains and Cam asks who is it, "its from the company" I whisper at her and listen to the caller.

"Um yeah" I say urging her to continue and Cam leans in to listen, "so you have been accepted for the opportunity and your expected to arrive here tomorrow early in the morning before eight" she says and Cam squeals next to me, "thank you so much" I say trying to be calm, "congratulation and please don't be late" she reminds me and ends the call,I put down the phone and Cam immediately hugs me.

"I can't believe you have been accepted,we should celebrate" she says waking up and running to the kitchen coming out with two bottles of beer, "am only drinking one,I don't want to have a hungover tomorrow" I tell and she opens both of them, "don't worry its only this one" she says holding them up for me, "cheers to the best news we got for a long time" she says bumping our bottles together and we take huge gulp of the drink.

"Aw am so happy for you,you should tell your mother, she will be so happy" she suggest and I shake my head, "let me first get the job officially" I tell her and she nods, "great thinking there" she comments and I smile.

I am being woken up by my alarm and I head straight to the showers,I finish faster wanting to be there in time don't want to have a bad impression for the first day,I can't still believe I will be working at the best company in newyork.I rummage throw my closet looking for the best clothes for my grand entrance but its filled with sweatshirts,sweetpants,jeans,tanktop,croptop,buggy clothes that are not suitable for proffesional things,I never thought I would need them.

I make my way to Cam's room knowing she always has a big closet filled with so many dress am sure she will help me.I open the door and find her sleeping like a log, "Cam I need your help" I groan pulling the comforters from her curled body,she groans and starts looking for the comforter, "Cam wake up,I really need your help plus don't you have classes" I remind her nudging her a little,she jumps up as if she has had the worst nightmare and looks at me, "what time is it?" She asks looking at the the clock, "its seven,now please help me" I whine and she drops back to bed.

"Why are you waking me up so early my classes start at ten and your waking me up so early" she grumbles and I pout at her, "please am gonner be late,I don't have anything to wear" I tell her and a smile forms on her face, "you want me to give you a dress,wow this is a miracle" she exclaims standing up and going to her closet, "okey which colour would you like black,red,pink,navy blue?" She asks and I just look at her, she has all of that?

"Which ever that is proffesional one, don't give me something that looks like am a slut" I explain to her and she snorts, "your commanding me as if am your employee" she says showing me a navy blue dress, "this is perfect,its perfectly short and proffesional" she says looking at the sleeveless dress, "here let me try it" I say taking the dress from her,I walk in her bathroom and put it on.Its beautiful,its showing of my curves perfectly and it reaches my knees and it covers up to my neck.

I walk out from the bathroom and twirl around for to see, "aw you look gorgeous,now put this lipstck on it will make the best complexion" she says giving me a red lipstick and I apply it on and put some eyeliner on my eyes to make them pop and some blush. "What do you think?" I ask her and she smiles proudly, "now I have to go am gonner be late" I tell her rushing to my room to take my purse and go to the kitchen grabbing a muffin with some energy drink, "how are you gonner reach there without coffee? You know you can't think without taking coffee?" Cam says giving me a cup of coffee.

I throw the energy drink in my purse and take the coffee faster burning my tongue, "ouch!" I mutter removing my burnt tongue, "I told its hot" she says taking a cup herself, "no you didn't,argh I have to go am gonner be so late and you know how the traffic is in newyork" I say taking the last sip and curse for burning me again, "wish me luck" I mutter and she waves at me.

The traffic here is killing me,why did it have to be today of days,with this pace am gonner be so late.The green light flashes and I put full speed not bothering if the police will stop me,I reach the company after a few minutes of being stuck in traffic.I hurredily get out from my car and rush to the entrance of this enomours building not missing how its beautiful from outside.

I enter the reception finding it decorated wonderfuly,the articals here look really expensive.I head to the receptionist finding her filing her nails and humming some song. "Um hi,am here for the job" I tell her not knowing what to really say and she looks at me putting down her file down, "oh your the new intern, don't you think you're a bit late" she says motioning to the clock and I see am ten minutes late."Urgh the traffic was toxic today" I tell her and she nods, "I totally understand that, it always happens to me" she says taking the phone nearby and dialing.

She says something over the phone saying that she has reached and nods to the other person has said."Okey the boss will see you now but I must tell you his not in a good mood so be very careful his tantrums are not the best" she informs me and I gulp nervously, "don't be too worried I never wanted to scare you but seriously be on guard anyway its the last floor of this building,his office is to the left" she tells me and I nod at her, "good luck" she wishes me and I thank her.

I head to the elevator and push the eleventh button,wow this building is tall.I feel my hand starts to sweat from fear,I hope it will all go well.I reach the floor and my heart starts to beat harder with every step I take to his office,I look at the door and start regretting for taking this opportunity,what if he says he doesn't want me to work here because I wasn't puntual.No,no I should stop all the negative thoughts and put on my big girl pants and knock this stupid door.

I lift my hand high ready to knock but I don't have the courage,I take two deep breaths and close my eyes to knock to what lies for my future.I knock twice loud enough for him to hear and I hear his deep voice, "come in."
