Chapter 40

It's game over for you.

At this point, you might aswell be addicted to me. Pfft.

Don't you get me wrong, I enjoy it. But isn't it pitiful?

Your stupidity really never ceases to amaze me.

I mean, it's already pathetic to fall for a lie. But knowing it's a lie and still choosing to believe it…

That's another level.

I hope for him that he'll be smarter than you. But that'll be game over for me.

After Midoriya left Bakugous house, he strolled around a bit. When he reached the center of the city, he sat down on a bench and observed the crowd. Every now and then, someone caught his attention, but only for a few seconds. Then they became another blurry face to him again. That was until he spotted someone familiar.

Todoroki was standing in front of a coffee shop on the other side of the road, a cup of coffee to-go in his hands. Suddenly, he looked up and caught Midoriyas glare. It didn't waver. After a few seconds of staring at each other, Todoroki came over to Midoriya. "Midoriya. Why are you staring at me?"

Midoriya dropped his head to the side. "Why not? It's not like you're unpleasant to look at." "Thanks?" Todoroki didn't know how to interpret the pale boy's slight smile and kept his guard up. "No problem." It widened. The dual-haired boy stared at Midoriya for a moment, then he sat down next to him.

"Tell me, how do you know Touya?" "I know Dabi." Todoroki waited for more, but Midoriya remained silent. It irritated Todoroki. "Is that all you have to say?" "Yes." Midoriyas expression was stoic. Then he gave Todoroki an almost sympathetic smile. "I know Kirishima talked to you. I can't trust you."

Todoroki sighed in return. "Why are you acting this way?" "What?" Midoriyas expression was genuinely surprised. The heterochromic boy averted his eyes from him. "When the others were around, you were sarcastic and seemed like danger. Now, you're almost nice to me. And I could swear Bakugou sees yet another side of you. The conclusion is that you're nothing of what you let anyone see."

Midoriya laughed quietly. "You jump to conclusions quite easily. What makes you think you figured me out?" "Maybe the fact that you're becoming defensive now." Todorokis expression closed up. Midoriyas soften even more in return. "Because I'm careful. And you are too, it seems. That's nice. It might save your life sometime."

Todoroki tried to find the hidden message in Midoriyas words, but he couldn't seem to figure what the mysterious boy wanted to tell him. Suddenly, Midoriyas fingers twitched towards him. Midoriya acted like nothing happened, but Todoroki had already noticed it. "Midoriya, what were you trying."

He didn't answer. Todoroki was becoming irritated. "What was that?!" Midoriyas eyes narrowed. "Sorry if I made you uncomfortable. I'm just used to doing what I want, physically too, because I'm with Kacchan most of the time." "You didn't answer my question. What was that?!" Todoroki was close to becoming angry.

Midoriya exhaled heavily. "I wasn't trying to hurt you. I just wanted to move your hair out of your face." He accentuated his words by doing exactly that. "Because I like it. It's not every day that you see someone with natural half-tone hair." Then he took his hand back to himself. "Kirishima really convinced you of his theory, didn't he? You believe him."

Todoroki shook the sudden numbness in his brain off. "I'm not believing anything. It's a fact that someone is hurting Bakugou and it might aswell be you. I'm just… careful." His statement made Midoriya smile. "It's cute how everyone is so concerned about Kacchan. Have you ever considered that his 'excuse', how you titled it, might be true?"

This made Todoroki think. He hadn't, actually. It just wasn't very likely. Midoriya seemed to have read his thoughts and smiled. "Trust your feeling, whatever it might be. I'm not telling you this as the one accused, I'm saying it as someone who often tagged along with the opinions of others… And in the end, all of us were wrong."

Then he stood up and left Todoroki deep in thoughts.

There's something about you I want…

It can't be revenge. You never hurt me. Maybe it's just the fact that you can become a Hero…

I hope you take my advice. Then I just have to give you the right feeling.

Make you believe this is the actual me. Smile at you. Understand you. Tell you that I'm just like you. And when you're ready for it… I'll turn your feelings again.

But then, you're already too attached to me to back out.

Because as soon as you start doubting I am what I make you think I am, the game has already begun.

Now, let's get to know you a little more…
