I woke up really upset, today was the first day of the last week of summer. Long story short, school started in a week. I wish summer lasted forever.
I sat up and walked to my closet, I grabbed a pair of jeans and a hoodie and walked downstairs to find breakfast. My Dad was sitting at the table looking very discouraged.
"What wrong Dad?" I asked pouting myself some cereal. I sat down beside him as he rubbed his temples with his fingers. I shoveled cereal into my mouth as a waited for an answer.
"Well we got this letter, and I don't know what to think of it." He said re-reading the letter over and over. I took it from his hands and read it aloud.
"Dear Ms. Hawkes, you have to forgive us, your magic wasn't detected until a few months ago, it really is quite strange considering you will be attending Hogwarts late. Usually children start at age 11 starting with year 1, you will be starting at 15, year 5.
We apologize again, here is the list of materials you will be needing for Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry." I stared at the letter before looking to my dad. "Well let's hurry up and get going, it says here that the last day to get school supplies is today." I started walking upstairs before my Dad stopped me.
"You don't actually believe it do you? It's clearly a scam." He said giving me a concerned look.
"Well we won't know till we check it out." I smiled and ran upstairs to pack. I heard my Dad sigh and laugh.
Okay, Hogwarts, I'm a witch. Huh, that's weird. Anyways I needed to pack so I went to my closet and grabbed my trunk, I packed all of my clothes and some extra things like my childhood stuffed animal, and my winter clothes. I then grabbed all my toiletries. I ran downstairs dragging my trunk behind me. My Dad was waiting at the door.
"Do you really want to do this?" He asked.
"Yup." I said as he opened the door letting me out. He sighed again as we got in the car.
-
We arrived at The Leaky Caldron and headed inside. I looked around for anyone who could help us but before I could ask for help a very large man came up to me.
"Elle, there! Can I help you?" He asked. This man was very tall and had a very long brown beard along with very long brown hair.
"Um, we need to get to Diagon Alley?" I said, the man laughed.
"By the looks of you I assume you're a muggle born?" He asked. I have him a confused look causing him to laugh again. "Muggle born is a witch or wizard born from non magic parents. Your dad here is a muggle I presume?" My dad nodded his head, sort of.
"Ohhhh, well can you help us?" I asked handing him my letter. He looked baffled.
"Wait, so yer not going into your first year?" He asked, I shook my head. "Well how bout this, I'll take her to all the places she needs to go I'll even take her to the train, since I know how to get there?" He looked at my father.
"Okay, just promise you'll keep her safe? Oh! And here's some money for supplies. I love you so much sweetie." He hugged me and kissed me on my head before leaving the shop. I looked up at the man and realized I didn't know his name.
"I never got your name." I said.
"Oh well I'm Rubeus Hagrid, but you can call me Hagrid."
"Well hello Hagrid, my names Briar, it's lovely to meet you." I smiled.
-
Hagrid took me to Diagon alley which you entered through a wall, he then took me to the bank to trade in my money. He then took me to get books saying hello to everyone on the way.
"Here's where yer gonna get yer books, go inside and pay for them, I'll be waiting right here." He motioned for me to go inside.
I walked in and looked around. I saw lots of kids and their parents. I sighed kind of wishing my dad was here. I decided to go and look around for what I needed. I checked my letter and tried finding all of them but only found one. I sat down with the book and sighed. Suddenly a red headed lady came up to me.
"Sweetie are you alright? You look upset." She asked.
"I can't find any of my books." I said looking up at her.
"Oh well don't you worry, I'll have my son help you. RONALD WEASLY!" She yelled. Two boy showed up, clearly twins.
"Ron's not here," one started,
"He went with Harry, to look at brooms." The other finished. The woman who I presumed to be their mother sighed.
"Fine, you two help this young lady find her books." She smiled then walked away. The twins walked close to me and held out their hands. I shook them.
"Hey there, my names Fred and he's George." One smiled.
"Hi, I'm Briar." I said standing up.
"Okay Briar, what year are you in?" They asked.
"Well technically 10, but for Hogwarts it's year 5?" I said, they looked at each other.
"Well how come we haven't seen you before?" Fred asked.
"She might not be in Griffindor." George sighed.
"Okay, well Briar which house are you in?" Fred asked.
"Um, I've never been to Hogwarts before." I said, they looked shocked as everyone has today.
"Well no worries, we'll help you around Hogwarts, we should probably find your books first." George laughed.
They helped me find my books and I waved goodbye and went outside to find Hagrid.
"There yer are." He said. "Hurry we have to get to Ollivanders." He said leading me towards another shop.
"What that?" I asked.
"The wand shop he smiled." He motioned for me to go inside. I walked in and was greeted by a friendly looking old man.
