Interesting Facts about The Princess and The Tomboy

1. Francine and Charlie were initially based on my best friend and me, respectively but as the story progressed - these two became their own people

2. The story of Nicole and McCrae was written as a result of a last-minute decision. They weren't supposed to be in the story.

3. Augustus and Jeremiah didn't get to narrate their backstories in the original draft. This was added just to give an insight into how the love interests are like.

4. Both couples were planned to end on a "happily ever after" note. However, the open-endings seemed much more interesting and it's up to the readers now - how they want their endings to be.

5. Both Augustus and Jeremiah are loosely based on two of my guy best friends. (One happens to be smart and was once perceived as an "arrogant young lad" and the other was always in love with art.)

6. The criticism Charlie had to go through for being a tomboy (being called a guy, not being girly enough, being a stigma to womanhood and whatnot) are taken from the real-life experiences of most tomboys. Being a tomboy is already quite difficult and these insults from society don't make anything easier.

7. For Francine's ending, there was an idea that she would turn down her throne and live a simple life with Jeremiah. However, it felt more cliché as it's predictable and readers would feel that it would've been perfect to let go of the throne. This is why the new ending was penned down.

8. Charlie was supposed to rule the Kingdom of Scotland alongside Augustus. However, that never happened because again, it was predictable.

9. Although it was never mentioned - it's Hazel who takes over the throne and becomes the first "Tomboy" Queen of Scotland

10. The Lorenzo siblings and Hazel were unplanned characters who happened to play an important role in the story.

11. McCrae was supposed to be behind Charlie's dad's death - but it was changed to dying of lung cancer.

12. The "chocolate allergy" was not made up - it's true. You guys can look it up if you wish.

13. This is the first book that took me a whole year to finish - haven't worked on a story for such a long time.

14. In the beginning, the book was only supposed to focus on "the swap" and the way the main leads balanced each other's lives without giving each other's identities away. As the story progressed further, it focused on more topics.

15. McCrae was only supposed to be a billionaire. However, he later was given a vital role in the story as a villain.

16. In the original draft, Augustus was a cold-hearted Prince whose walls were broken down later by Charlie and he ends up falling in love with her. This was changed in this revised version.

17. This book was loosely inspired by "The Princess Switch" and a lot of other movies where two doppelgangers swap places - but the reason for the swap is completely my own.

18. Jeremiah is the only character in the book who had no major issues to deal with and had a "picture perfect" family.
