We Should Talk

The drive to the airport was a quiet one. A soft jazz song was playing on the car stereo and Dana quietly sat on the passenger seat, with her eyes glued to the outside of the car window, while Grand drove the black Escalade with a steady hand.

Grand stayed well below the speed limit despite the light traffic. It was the only thing he could do to prolong his time with Dana. Yet, the separation was inevitable and none of them wanted to talk about it. As if, ignoring it would make their impending separation disappear.

Not long, they reached the airport and Grand pulled up the dropped-off area.

"I'll drop you off and park the car. I'll come back right after. Don't go inside the airport yet, just wait for me near the entrance."

"Grand."

"Yes?" he asked but he was not looking at her, he was busy peering at the side mirror. When Dana didn't continue what she was saying, he turned his head to her and asked again, "yes, what is it?"
