You're Like Me (1)

Chapter 12: Episode 6 - You're Like Me (1)

The beautiful fairy gave me a kind smile as I looked at her, unsure of how to comprehend the situation.

'Strangely, it looks like the same kind of fairy-like creature that I saw in that picture with my mom and Henri Lucas when I was 6. Only, this one had different features from the one I saw in that picture. This one is completely different.'

The fairy I saw in that picture had long, blonde hair like my mother that was shifted to the side, with a pink bow on the right side of her head. She looked like a noble girl in a mint green dress and brown shoes, holding a golden staff with a spoon at the end.

'What the hell is going on?'

I looked at the small fairy-like creature in disbelief and took a closer look at her features.

No matter how much I looked at her, there was no doubt that she was a fairy with the fluttering wings and her small size.

"A… sweets spirit? What's that?" I said unsurely, clocking my head to the side.

"Sweets spirits are born to make delicious confections, although, we always live in our world, the Sweets Kingdom. When we reach a certain level, we can go to the human world for training. Also, sweets spirits can use magic unlike the humans of this world," Fraise calmly explained.

"Magic? There is such a thing as magic?" I asked with doubt.

"Shall I show you?" Fraise asked, piquing my interest. I nodded my head and agreed.

"Waiting an hour for the dough to rise is such a bore, but what if it can rise in just a few mere seconds?" Fraise incited, pointing her golden staff at my dough in a bowl. She twirled her golden staff around and a bright white light shone from it.

In just a few seconds, the dough that would've taken an hour to have fully risen puffed up in a second.

"Wow!" I expressed amazedly, seeing how quick the dough rose. "How did you do that?"

"I call my magic, 'Sweets Magic'. Do you believe me now, Keiko?" Fraise asked me and I undoubtedly nodded my head.

"Now I can quickly make my beignets!" I expressed with a smile, gazing at the tiny fairy.

"Shall we make them together?" I offered Fraise who gave a large smile in return.

"Okay!"

I punched the dough and floured a flat surface. I began kneading the dough and rolled it out into a rectangle that wasn't too thick or too thin

Fraise used her magic to cut the dough into 2-in. squares. We got ready some oil in a deep fryer and began heating it up until it was hot enough. We gently dropped the beignets into the hot oil a few at a time and fried each side of the beignets for one minute per side until they were golden brown and they poofed up like a pillow. We drained out the excess oil and served it on a plate.

I dusted the beignets with confectioner's sugar to complete it and served it alongside an assortment of berries and some whipped cream that Fraise made.

"Wow! It looks amazing!" Fraise praised and I nodded.

"If it weren't for you, I'd still be here waiting for the dough to rise," I pointed out and Fraise giggled.

In total, this took about 45 minutes to complete.

I suddenly felt hungry and took a bite of the beignets.

"It tastes nice," I analyzed the taste of the beignets.

'It's soft and fluffy with a little pocket inside, kind of like a pillow. The overall dough wasn't too sweet because I knew it needed to be dusted with the powdered sugar. The whipped cream served on top goes well with it along with the assortments of fruit that Fraise displayed.'

"You're right! We did a good job!" Fraise expressed cheerfully as she took a small bite out of the beignets that were only a bit smaller than her.

"Fraise, you said something about coming to the human world for training? What did you mean by that?" I asked curiously, taking another bite of the beignets.

"Oh, that's right. Sweets spirits team up with a human we're interested in to make the supreme cake for the Queen of the Sweets Spirits in the Sweets Kingdom. If our skill is high enough, we can become the kingdom's royal patissiers," Fraise explained.

"What is your skill level so far, Fraise?" I asked but the smile on her face faded away.

'Why did her expression change so suddenly? Was it the wrong question to ask?'

"You don't have to answer," I tried to change the topic but a faint smile appeared on her face.

"It's fine. I would say that my skill level is exceptional but I'm not that great," Fraise looked down but I could sense an off look in her eyes. "But my goal is to become a well-known patissiere in the Sweets Kingdom!"

'Now that I think of it, I guess we both share some similarities in our personality. We're unsure of our skill level and we both share the same goal—to become famous patisseries in our worlds.'

"You're like me, aiming to become a patissiere," I remarked and she looked me dead in the eyes that caused goosebumps down my neck.

"That's right, Keiko. You and I both share the same dream," Fraise's bright blue eyes gazed directly at mine. Her look was serious.

"I've been watching you for some time, Keiko, ever since your mother passed away," Fraise slowly admitted and my eyes widened in shock.

'She's been… watching me?'
