~Dali's POV~
We drove in the car only for a short distance around the pack lands and then through the human territory. There were to many moving parts to this plan, it made not only me but Fallon nervous. With the people I care about the most putting themselves in harms way I had no choice but to execute my part perfectly. Not only them but saving the lives of those poor wolves that are being controlled by Trista. Looking out the window I watch as the houses get fewer and fewer, opening to a forested area.
It wasn't long until the warrior who was driving pulled us over on the side of the old road. We got out all ready for the battle, some getting one final stretch in before the run that laid before us. The warrior wolf who was driving was taking a final head count making sure all ten of us were ready. I looked at the others, taking in their determination to end this today. The moonlight shown brightly above the tree line. Almost as if the goddess her self was watching us with anticipation.
"Ready?" Fallon asked coming close to the surface and taking in our surroundings.
"About as ready as I can be." my mind drifted back to the warehouse we just managed to leave. The chemical smell that mixed with the rouges made my head spin still.
The warrior wolf motioned for us to start our mission, to fan out and funnel the rouges all into one area. Of course there was no way we could be sure there weren't any hunters among them but at least we could tell them apart by their speed. Entering the forest my heart beat amongst the quiet crinkle of the leaves were the only sounds I could hear. Fallon was just close enough to the surface to help but also not enough so we would change. I looked on either side of me noticing the others were already so far.
A howl sounded in the distance and gunfire began almost as if a response to it. Another howl let out except this time much closer to our group. Then another, it was almost like they were relaying messages to each other.
"Rouges can't link since they have no pack." Fallon said catching on to my thoughts.
"These aren't normal rouges.." I remind her as another one rings out showing its getting closer.
The familiar rotting smell begins to creep up behind me. With out turning around I bound into a sprint. Using the faint moonlight that shown through the trees as a guide. We planned our routes specifically so we could attract as many as we can to one spot. As long as I stay on my path the others should be able to as well. I just wish I had known how badly over grown this part of the forest was. Jumping over a fallen tree I threw a glance behind me to see not one but too many to count chasing after me.
I landed on the other side hard, rolling a few times before getting up and taking off again. I barely noticed the pain in my head over the exertion of my legs. The rouges behind me started to make this feral growl, each sounding slightly different making a symphony of unnatural sounds. I was so focused on them I barely noticed the sound of the rushing water approaching.
"Get her, she's the one she wants!" one of the rouges growled and let out a blood curdling howl.
My legs began to slow as I saw the flowing river, but only for a moment. I turned hard to the left running along the side as close as I could to the water eyeing the rocks that stood slightly above the rushing water's surface. With ease we jumped to stand on the tallest one that was just before the waterfall. Finally stopping, all of the pain I was able to ignore started to rage all over. My chest rose and fell heavily as I caught my breath watching the rouges slowly enclose each side of the river.
The low rumble of their collective growls made me more nervous as pairs of red eyes joined. They walked slowly towards me, with their eyes locked on me and me alone. The panic inside of me rose a little but I needed to get as many here as possible.
"Do we provoke the crowd of murderous bewitched wolves?" Fallon said half heartedly.
"Um probably not the best idea right now?" I chuckled a little at the thought. They did not like this very much and those closest to the river banks began to enter the waters. "F*ck." I sighed at Fallon's laughs.
"Well that'll do it." she giggled.
"Alright, you wana be lap dogs. Where is this new sense of comradery you all seem to have. She must have trained you all very well." I shout at them hoping this would at least get them riled up.
"That was horrible." Fallon huffed.
"Fine well you try then." I thought back to her as I watched their movements closely.
"What a sorry excuse for wolves. You allowed yourselves to be bewitched by someone who we could tare apart at will." Our voices combined with the alpha tone as she talked. This did the job, the ones in the back started to charge, pushing those in front of them to action as well.
Just as they were about to reach us, we jumped sending ourselves flying back over the waterfall. I looked up at the moon as I fell back towards the waters below. Only two of the rouges had followed me over the edge. As their red eyes grew closer I closed my own. With one final breath in I hoped I had fulfilled my part and crashed into the water.
The water was freezing as I plunged into its depths. I quickly opened my eyes and started to swim towards the surface. This was until someone grabbed my foot and began to climb up my leg. I tried to kick them off and keep swimming until their muddled scream sounded through the water and they stopped moving, letting go of my pants. Before they were to far I grabbed their hand and started to take us both to the surface still unsure of what waited up there.
As soon as we reached the surface of the water there were hands pulling us out of it. I thrashed around trying to break free of their grasps to no avail.
"Luna please, please stop fighting!" a familiar voice rang out over my splashing.
I looked up to see Alice's long black hair swaying in the breeze and the relief I felt was palpable. I allowed her to pull me to safety as the others helped pull those who followed me over out as well. Above I could see the many wolves who were chasing me staring down at us. I could feel their eyes on me again as I got on the river bank. I checked Alice to make sure she was okay, her bandages stained red from the effort she had made.
"What are you doing here? You should be resting!" I yelled not realizing my alpha tone taking over. Her black eyes stared back at me in awe.
"You really thought I was going to let you have all the fun?" she smiled wide looking up at the crowd. "I was called to this place. S..she said you would be here." she looked up at the moon that was shining brightly above and I knew exactly what she meant.
"Any word from the others?" I asked concerned, turning to examine the people above whose red glow was no longer there.
"Not yet Luna, but we have a bigger issue to deal with right now." she tore her eyes away from the moon and nodded to the newly changed wolves.
