Chapter 17

Since that is the case Uchika first teaches Soji forehand topspin to help him on short bouncing balls as he has a hard time-fighting Aki who hits make her ball bounce and travel low.

Now since she confirmed that although his forehand topspin is not really advance, it is still usable for matches and can help him on low balls because of the wall training.

And also the way he hits the ball on the park means that he didn't destroy his form and he didn't develop some bad habits.

Since although neglectful on her part she didn't watch him do wall practice to make sure he does it at the correct motions.

Chapter 17

"Okay for this afternoon session I will have Soji learn a new spin while..." She looks at Aki who in contrast to Soji who although not brimming with energy still has some spares. "Aki will have to rest on the corner while we do this session"

After getting the necessary equipment Uchika then instructs Soji on how to do a backhand slice.

Although the continental grip is the best for the backhand slice, Uchika didn't make Soji change his grip since it is the eastern grip which is ok for this type of shot.

So first Uchika demonstrated the necessary steps for a one-handed backhand slice since Soji is using a one-handed backhand.

With Aki's help tossing the ball Uchika first turns sideways with her body to the backhand position.

While still holding the throat of the racket, Uchika brings the racket above her left shoulder since she is also right-handed, ready to slice the ball.

Slicing the ball aggressively, while keeping the racket in a perfect diagonal path successfully executing a one-handed backhand slice.

"This is what you do if the ball has lots of bounce and this is when it doesn't have lots of bounce."

Still doing the same initial steps but this time since the balls bounce is lower she instead hit under the ball and proceed to guide it upward.

"Also when hitting the slice you have to somewhat keep in mind to try and let the ball roll on the racket for a better spin."

"Also when hitting a slice you have to also move your non-hitting hand in almost the same way you move your hitting hand to stay sideways instead of turning like when you hit a forehand."

Uchika makes Soji go into a position to try and teach him about the one-handed backhand slice.

"Okay, first you have to copy what I did and try to adjust your movements to a much more comfortable range as you go. Since we have different body types."

Uchika then proceeds to feed balls to Soji with varying speed, bounce, and speed repeating the type of training he has done when he first practice topspin.

After emptying a few baskets full of tennis balls they go back to the house and have a bath, eat, and watch another match before going to bed.

Waking up Soji washes his face and brushes his teeth before going to the living room to just relax and wait for Uchika to cook breakfast.

After eating breakfast they go to the indoor court and practice their shot by having both Aki and Soji hit against each other but instead of doing it competitively, they are hitting the balls to where it is easy to reach and return.

Since Aki knows that Soji is practicing his one-backhand slice she tries to keep most of her shots to his backhand making hit more slice.

They spend all morning just doing this while Soji tries to mirror Aki's court movement and positioning to also help with her shot placements.

After eating lunch they continued with what they were doing this morning till it is time to eat dinner but this time Aki keeps feeding Soji with low bouncing balls to further help him on his weakness

Morning arrives and after eating breakfast Uchika has Soji practice his one-handed backhand slice on the wall room, while Aki does her usual routine with Uchika.

Since this is the last day of Soji here Uchika decided to just spend the afternoon teaching Soji the importance of rest as she knows that Soji doubles his workout most of the time in school.

"You said that during your first year you didn't get to use the court much since the upperclassmen are hogging it right?"

"Yes, since we only have 4 tennis court for the boys and also four for girls and the girls' side are also fully booked."
