(chapter 1)

The holidays were over, which meant that school was to start today. A fact the heavens weren't happy with as the clouds wept and decided to block the radiant hope of the sun.

And much like the heavens, laid a teenage boy, who felt he was ready to forsake everything, to ensure he didn't go to the hell, Elmwood have named Community college.

As he laid in his bed, staring out the window at how much fun the lightening was having in the sky, he was whisked back to his high school days, how he had been a nerd for most of the years, how he met Ben the boy who introduced him to contact lens and thought him the art of being cool, he remembered the radiant smile of his puppy love Lisa, remembered how they split because he kissed Kyra.

The gentle pitter patter of the rain against the window seemed to have become rhythmic, as he began to remember the final school dance and how he was awarded the best in the school, even now as he laid in his bed he still felt the same bubbles in his stomach as he had felt before, as he sighed and casted his gaze towards a red poster of The Flash, that he had hung since his junior years, and for some unknown reason decided it was time to take it down, maybe he felt he had surpassed the age of such childish things.

"John it's 6:30, you better be on your way to the shower, you can't be late for your first day in college" said a voice from the door, and he instantly knew who it was.

There was no mistaking that soft voice, it was the voice of the woman who had guided him through all his years, someone he owed everything to, it was the voice of his mom.

"I'm on my way mom, you don't have to remind me anymore, I'm not a kid", he said as he opened his room door, to become face to face with a average height, blonde hair, middle aged woman.

I know you're not a kid anymore John, she said as she pinched his cheeks softly, but as long as I'm alive your still my kid she said as she walked down the hall with a basket of laundry, leaving John to smile and wonder how he was so lucky to have such an angel as a mom.

"She was up since 5 you know" came a voice from the opposite room.

John didn't have to look up to know who the person was, he knew who it was, it was someone who he couldn't stand and yet couldn't live without, it was his younger sister fortune.

"Don't you greet on your planet" said John as he walked towards her room.

"Well we do" she said " but they actually have to be important people" she said as she shut the door, leaving him with a sign on the door that said KEEP OUT, I'm ALLERGIC TO PEOPLE, before shouting a greeting from the other side of the room.

With a smile John walked back into his room to grab a towel and walk towards the bathroom.

"Get up Ben you can't be late"

Ben knew that voice all too well, it was his uncle voice, which could only mean one thing, he had school today.

"Coming sir" he shouted as he stood up from his bed, something about his bass voice felt off, so he decided to make some scoffing sounds in hopes that it would get better. He walked towards his mirror which was conveniently beside a poster of his favorite anime hero, Allmight.

"I got to hit the gym some more if I want to look like you" he said as he stared into the mirror, which in turn showed him, an image of his good looking physique, he flexed them a bit, but ultimately got bored of it, as he went into the shower to have a bath.

Some 5-10 minutes later, he was done bathing and was now fully dressed, and again he was in front of the mirror, checking if the cloth looked good on him or if the combination of a black Nike top, a pair of black skinny jeans and a black pair of hi-tops was "dope".

He seemed pleased with his overall look, as he ran his fingers through his hair and licked his lips as he looked into the mirror, before admitting the action looked wrong , as he walked towards the door, only to stop to look at his room which was covered in anime and smile as he opened the door walking out.

"Morning Dad, has Ben come yet" asked John as he ran downstairs, skipping a few steps.

"No he hasn't sport. Why are you in a rush, you late ?"asked his dad, nose deep in dish washing.

"Well let's say I spent a little to much time trying to wake up", John said while rushing to pack his backpack.

"My inhaler, has anyone seen my inhaler!" he shouted, as he began ransacking the backpack he arranged.

"It's right here" said fortune who stood at the kitchen door, looking smug as ever.

"Thanks" John said as he ran towards the door, while stuffing the inhaler into pocket, leaving his breakfast of toast on the table unattended to, leaving his dad and sis in a messed up kitchen.

To say the truth he wasn't bothered that he was running late, he needed to get out of the house before his mum saw the state of the kitchen and blew a fuse. It happens every time their dad cooked. Even as he left the front door, he could hear the complaints of his mother as she shouted something in line with "never letting her husband cook again"

The clouds had finally been comforted, as John realized he hadn't carried an umbrella and there was a chance the rain would start again, but he wasn't bothered, he would get one from Ben's house.

"Ben had been his best friend for as long as he could remember, he could still remember how they first met and how he had envied Ben for having the best toys and gadgets, he remembered how many sleep over he had organized, just so he could stay in his house, he really thought Ben's life was perfect, not until the day it all went wrong.

".They were out on a camping trip, the two of them were out in the open, laying on the cold green grass, watching the stars, as Ben's parents and John's parents were talking while roasting marshmallows with his sister fortune.

Suddenly there was gun shot in the woods, their parents panicked, they didn't wait to find out what it was and rushed to clear the campsite and drive off.

For some unknown reason Ben had decided to stay in John's family sienna instead of his parents own, even though his parents own would have been more secured.

As the two families drove quickly, Ben's parents took a wrong turn and drove straight of a cliff, straight into the Rocky canyon below.

"John could still remember it vividly like it had happened only moments ago, he remembered the tears that ran down Ben's face, he remembered the horror of watching the Jackson's car take flight and he remembered being stopped from seeing the corpses when the ambulance arrived, but all in all what he remembered the most was the light he saw fade away from the eyes of his best friend.

"Turned out someone was illegally hunting in the woods, he was the one who shot the gun, Ben's parents died cause of him and he only got 7months in prison, the death was filed under accident, but the boys thought different."

~~~~~
"Dad its 7:30 can't we come and meet you at the office" complained a boy who sat in the back of a black Audi v8, dressed in a black suit.
"Ray you're going to have to take over The prisinct enterprise one day, I can't have you wasting your life playing games" replied Ray's father , as he clenched his fist again the steering wheel as if to strangle them.
"Ray come on it's not that bad, dad just want to show us some of the things his engineers have come up with, we aren't gonna stay long, right dad?" , Asked a young girl who sat next to Ray.
"Yes Ashley, we won't , I just want to be present while my engineers present the presentation about the new particle collider"
"But Dad how does that affect me I'm not a science student, Ashely is a science student, I'm an art student" said Ray as he threw an evil stare towards Ashely.
"Gosh why can't you be like your sister Ray" wondered Mr. Brown as he took a left turn and drove through a gate into the compound of a skyscraper, which had a bill board a few feet's away which read
"THE PRISINCT ENTERPRISE"
The prisinct enterprise had been Mr. Brown's life work, it was a chain of engineering companies, that handled everything from civil engineering to marine engineering.
It was every engineering students dream work place, owing to the fact that the company probably built the whole city.
As the car parked in front of the main door into the building, 10-15 different workers dressed in black suits, rushed to the door to attend to Mr. Brown and his kids .
As soon as Mr. Brown was out the car, he was bombarded with greetings from different angles, his eyebrows narrowed and a sad lump formed in his throat, he hated this part of his day, he would pretty much prefer to be somewhere in his office working rather than being out here, forcing himself to mingle with his employees.
"Come on kids, it's just a 3 hour presentation and you guys will be out of here" said Mr. Brown as he opened the door to the car, for his kids to come out.
First came his responsible teenage daughter Ashely. She was an aspiring engineer and with her grades he was sure she would be exceptional.
She was followed rather reluctantly by her older brother Ray, who had been a thorn to his father's side for as long as Ray could remember and why won't he, the teenage boy still blamed him for everything and there was nothing he could do but hope that one day he would forgive him.
And as he watched his two children walk into the building, he couldn't but fear what the future holds for his son and be happy with the future his daughter was building, this mixture of feeling had been his concern ever since the incident, and much like the weather he was unsettled on the inside.
