Chapter Eighteen

(Dennis)

I was infuriated with how the others treated Dipper and I, as if we hadn't respected them from the start. 4 complete fucking strangers who suck at surviving.

Sighing, I tried to clear my mind about it. Hopefully we wont ever run into them again, poor Dipper.

"Alright guys, this should be far enough away from them" I said. I pumped the breaks to the car and parked it off into the little lot.

We were at what looked to be a small neat apartment building. I grabbed my stuff out of the back with the help of Dipper and slid out of the car.

Once everybody was ready, we walked up the stairs connected to the building and checked to see if any of the doors were locked or unlocked.

Most of them didnt budge sadly, we almost gave up until we reached one final door at the end of the walkway. I put my ears against the door and jumped back when crazed pounding sounded from the other side.

Changing hand into a claw, I opened the door harshly so that it would slam backwards on the zombie, knocking it to the ground.

Hurriedly, I rushed into the room and pivoted down so that I could drive my fingers into the skull of the dirty fuck.

Once it stopped moving, I hauled its body out of the room and through it over the railing. I walked back into the room looking around for something to get the terrible smelling blood up.

I found a dirtied rag and did my best to wipe up the substance before throwing it over the railing as well shutting, and locking the door.

"Fuck, I'll never get use to having an encounter with those things" Tom voiced what we all thought. "yeah, m-me neither" Dipper said sliding down against a wall.

"Do you guys want to take a break before we go and look for store and shit? It might be awhile" I asked hoping they'd say yes. "I dont see why not, it doesnt seem like zombies infest this area" Tom said, dipper nodding in agreement.

"Alright. Let's take a moment and calm down from all the shit that's already happened" I said sitting down on a dusty couch.

Tom came and sat down next to me while Dipper walked around in the kitchen. "Do you think their are like holdouts we could go to with other people?" he asked.

"Mostly likely no, me and Dipper arent exactly your average people Tom" I said subconsciously touching my arm.

"That's true" Tom sighed, "if only the others understood" he longed. "Hey, fuck them ok? They keep trying to turn on us like were the bad guys. Fuck Daniel as well, I thought he was cool but he always sticks up for them" I grumbled.

"Right, oh well. Hey Dipper you ready to head out? I'm super hungry" Tom exclaims. "Huh? Oh yeah be right there!" he yelled back.

I got up from the dusty couch and patted down my bum, I snorted at Tom doing the same who just playfully scowled at me.

Dipper jogs into the room with his bag over his shoulder and his gun out, "ready" he says. "Alright let's do this" I got up and headed for the door.

Half and hour later, Dipper, Tom, and I were still trudging around this rather humongous city for anything edible.

Half of the stores we've been to had products that were long expired before the apocalypse, which leads me to believe that this was an early abandoned city.

"God we've been out here forever, and theres still no sign of any fresh food" Tom complained. "I know Tom, but we just have to pull through it and keep searching, I know theres something around here, I can feel it." I said clutching my chest.

Tom stared at me with hard yet hopeful eyes as he sighed, "alright Dennis, I believe you" he said. "Thank you."

Just as we finished that conversation, Dipper trips and falls over a hidden wire in between a group of buildings. "What the fuck?" Tom ask, "ow f-fuck" Dipper hissed.

"Are you ok? Wait what's that?" I said pointed at the wire. It lead down a the opening of the buildings into the middle of the clearing.

"Look, it leads somewhere let's follow it" I said. We began to walk into the clearing, looking around at the buildings that surrounded us.

Only now had I notice what good shape they were all in. Like each building looked untouched, which was suspicious. We reached the wire that traveled into the ground.

I looked around for something else to push or pull, or anything. I walked around the small area until my foot pressed into a small opening on the floor.

"Hm?" I hummed as I rose my foot saw the dusty silver outlining filling the hole my foot fell into. "Guys I think I found something" I said and I inspected the hole further.

"What is it?" Tom appeared behind my shoulder as well as Dipper. "I think it's like a puzzle you know? All the cities are connected, we figured that out so they must have some kind of base" I pieced together.

"Ok spread out and try to find the other pieces" I ordered.

We walked around the clearing for a few minutes, searching and pressing into whatever looked irregular or suspicious.

I sighed standing up from my crouched position, we havent found anything yet. These people obviously know what they're doing.

I watched Tom press against the walls looking for whatever it is were looking for. He came across a marking, it seemed jagged but it pointed to another area on the far right of the wall.

"I think you found something" I said jogging up behind him, "yeah me too, let's go check it out."

I grabbed Dipper as we walked toward the direction the arrow told us to go in. Immediately upon arrival I could tell something was here, everything looked manufactured like it was made to look natural but isnt.

We immediately got to work checking out whatever this place was. I came across a hidden lever, "guys look, I found this. I wonder what would happen if we pulled it?" I questioned. "Do it, I mean we dont have much else to lose so let's do it" Tom said from over my shoulder.

"Alrighttt, 1...2....3!" I counted down, once reaching three I pulled the lever and felt the ground beneath us shake.

"Woah what the fuck" Tom swears as both he and Dipper latch onto my body. I watched in awe at the ground a few feet away from us as it twists and turns.

"W-Woah" Dipper awed at the opening the rose from the ground and up. A door slid open revealing a passageway that lead further down its futuristic looking corridors.

I looked at both Dipper and Tom realizing we all shared the same look. Without exchanging a word, we walked toward the opening and went down its white steps.
