A helping hand

Dan's pov

In the morning, I got up thinking of Jessica. I couldn't forget what had happened last night. I followed my morning routine and walked down the dorm stairs. She had said that she hadn't forgiven me yet. As I reached the last step, I saw a car parked in front of the dorm. I got closer to see who it was. My uncle Samson was standing there with a broad smile plastered on his face. I ran to hug him. I hadn't seen him since he had gone to the States to attend to some business. He patted my back. We walked around the campus for some time and saw Jessica heading to the canteen with one of her friends. I was just so worried about her. My uncle asked me if there was anything that was troubling me. I denied it but he caught me right away. He had known since I was a child. He followed my gaze and caught me staring at Jessica. "Girl Problems" he whispered. I nodded my head. It was like he read through me. I told him all about Jessica. He asked me to get some flowers and apologise to her. After he left the campus for some work, I headed to a florist and got a bunch of flowers. I was careful not to get daisies. The last time I had gotten her daisies, she had an allergic reaction. She was walking out of her dorm. I tried to talk to her but I couldn't get the courage to do it. I wondered what was happening to me. Where had the fearless Dan gone? I headed to Uncle Samson's office before heading to the shoot. He was sitting on his green chair spinning while holding a file in his hands. I walked and sat on the chair in front of him. I put the flowers on his desk and covered my face with my palms. He asked me if his plan had failed. I said no. I told him how I went speechless when I was in front of her. He gave me a fatherly smile and then began. He said that I was in love. I shot my head up when I heard the word love. I asked me if that meant I liked her. He smiled and said yes. He accompanied me to the shoot to see Jessica. When we reached the shoot, I pointed jessica. His mouth fell open. He patted my back and said that she was gorgeous. He asked me to watch and learn. Jessica was talking to one of the cast. Uncle Samson walked towards her and wished her. She looked at him confused but soon put on a smile. I wondered what they were talking about. After a few minutes I saw them walking towards me. I gulped. I got nervous when Jessica was around and I wished that I wouldn't say anything foolish in front of her. She smiled at me. My knees got weak. I handed her the flowers. She asked me if I was sick. I asked her why she thought that. She answered that my face was burning red. I bit my lower lip. Uncle Samson wished us goodbye and left. We walked back to our caravans. We had some good scenes that day. It was the first time we were going to be acting together. It was an exciting day at the set. At the end of the day, it was back to normal. Jessica and I didn't talk more than our dialogues. She kept a serious face all day long and didn't play around with the scenes. After the shoot was over everybody was leaving after wishing each other goodbye. I headed to Jessica's caravan to see if she was still there. Fortunately she was there. She was looking at one of the books on her table with a complex on her face. I quietly got in and tapped the back of her shoulder. She turned around and was startled. I apologised for not knocking before coming in. She said that it was fine. I sat down on a chair beside her. She passed her notebook to me which had some equations written in them. I asked her if she was having problems with understanding the sums. She nodded her head up and down. I smiled and picked up a pen. I did the equation easily as I had already done those sums before. I put the pen down. She looked like she was impressed. I noticed a little mistake in the last sums she had done. I was about to pick up the pen when she put her hand on it. There was an awkward silence. We stared at each other for the next five minutes. I suddenly realised how awkward it was and broke the stare. I fak coughed and asked her if she wanted to have dinner with me. After thinking for some time she said yes but also said that she had one condition. I told her that I am all ears. She said in a low voice that I had to help her with the sums. I chuckled at her silliness and went on doing the other sums for her. After sometime we headed out of the caravan. Most of the people had left. Some of the cast were packing up the last equipment. We wished them goodbye and got in the car. It was a hot night. The wind was blowing. Jessica started talking about the project we were supposed to be doing together. It was a big part of the grade so we wanted to pay more attention to it. We talked about it for a while. I brought up the topic if she had forgiven me. She smiled and said that she had because I had helped her with her work. Not knowing what I was doing I pulled her into a tight hug. We sat like that for a while.
