*Gianna's pov*

"Gianna why're you so silent?" Xavier asked me as he traced my soft hair.

"I'm thinking about what should I do now." I said and sighed.

"Nothing, just marry me. That's all." Xavier said and shrugged.

"So childish." I teased as I flicked his shoulder.

"What childish? This is no child's play, I'm being serious here mio cuore! Marry me, will you? I can do a thousand times proposal, but I won't hear a 'No' for an answer." Xavier said in a stern voice and I shook my head dejectedly.

"How about 'Never' for an answer? Xavier I'm telling you, it's impossible now, forget me, live ahead happily, find your true love and find yourself a better half for you and finally marry with her." I heard him sigh, and he left my hand which he was holding earlier and stood up. I heard a huge bang of the door following rough and fast footsteps going further away from the door. I guess I made him angry, but it doesn't matter I don't think our relationship was going to continue for long.

I took my cane from the nightstand and slowly went to the garden where I could hear Charlie playing enthusiastically with his friends. I called him out, and he came dashing to me in just a few seconds making me giggle at his antics. I rubbed his hair and hugged him.

"Charlie? Won't you hug me too?" I asked him in a soft low voice, which made him bark, and he stood on his paws hugging me back. I rubbed his back and slowly my tears started flowing down my cheeks, staining his fur with my tears. Charlie sensed my sadness and whined. I sniffed and wiped my tears and rubbed his head.

"Charlie? Can you do one last favor for me?" I asked him softly, and he bent his head to the side, expressing his confusion making me chuckle softly.

"I know you don't understand me completely but... this might help you understand my intention." I said and touched his collar-belt which had his name pendle. Charlie got tensed and moved a few steps away from me.

"Trust me, Charlie. Just a minute, come here. This is all for your happiness." I said and patted his head. I clicked open the collar belt and removed it making him bark continuously at me in anger.

"I know, I know, I'm really sorry, I'm a bad friend right? Forgive me, go live happily with your friends here." I said and pushed him slightly without any force. He barked at me in anger and came near me. I shook my head denying his actions. He groaned and in anger teared a piece of cloth from my dress, I let him take the piece of cloth as a memory.

"Sure, take it Charlie. I will take this collar belt as a memory of you..." I said and wiped my newly flowing tears, with that I tied the piece of cloth around his neck. He whined, and he put his paw on my hand, stopping me from going anywhere.

"Trust me Charlie. This is the last time I'm asking you for something. You will be really happy here, I'll talk with Mr. and Mrs. Moretti to allow you to stay here..." I said softly and stood up. I started walking away, but then I heard Charlie bark loudly, and he started chasing her, hearing his steps, I folded my cane and without looking back I ran towards the backdoor. I soon reached my room and locked the door.

I could hear him bark loudly outside my door, I sobbed and slid down the door, listening to his whines and barks filled with pain and sadness.

"I cannot give anyone happiness. It's better for me to go far away..." I whispered softly and stood up. I searched for my bag in wardrobe and started putting the essentials in the bag, Amelia brought for me.

"Why're you barking so loudly here Charlie?" I heard Mrs. Grace Moretti's voice from outside the door. She soon knocked on the door, I got tensed, but I had to open the door for her, Charlie came inside running and instantly jumped on the bag which was lying open on the floor and barked as if threatening me to even touch the bag. Sweat started forming on my head as I started making excuses in my mind. Grace saw the stuff collected near my bag which were to be added in the bag.

"Gianna... Are you leaving dear?" Grace got straight to the point and asked me this nerve-wrecking question.

"Uh... um, Mrs. Moretti... I..." I started stuttering as I couldn't form any excuse in my mind to explain her. Grace sighed and patted my back, she turned herself towards the bag and spotted Charlie with a piece of cloth of my dress in his neck instead of his collar belt.

"Are you planning to leave Charlie here with us?" She asked me and I slowly nodded my head in approval.

"It's fine for us to let Charlie stay here for as many years as he wishes to but may I at least know the reason you're moving out so soon? I promise, I'll try my best to keep this between us." Grace said in a soft voice.

"Mrs. Moretti I... Xavier and I were about to get into a serious relationship..." I said slowly while clutching my dress in nervousness.

"Is that so...? Isn't that good news? Why are you leaving then?"

"I couldn't agree to his proposal as I don't believe our relationship will last long... Xavier made an appointment with the doctor for my eyes' checkup, these are the reports..." I said in a low voice as I handed her the reports which were lying on the bed. I heard the calm sound of the pages being flipped. Suddenly, I felt Grace hug me, I could feel a few tears dripping on my shoulder. I patted her back and hugged her tightly.

"Dear, you know it doesn't matter right? We would be really happy and accept you in our family, just the way you are..." Grace said in a determined tone.

"I know Mrs. Moretti but... my heart cannot accept the fact that Xavier will have to adjust with a blind woman for as long as we live..." I said and tears started trailing down my cheek. I felt Grace softly wipe my tears and she took a deep breath.

"Dear, I won't force you, the decision lies in your hands, I could only support you in whatever decision you make. It's true, I feel sad for my son, but I cannot ignore your decision. You've become an important part of our family, even if we don't have any relation directly, at least for the sake of friendship with our family, come to us whenever you need any help or a place to live. Also, we'll take care of Charlie, but are you sure you want to leave him here? He's happy because you're here with him, on his side, you are getting what I am trying to say right?" Grace said slowly, and I nodded my head in approval.

"Charlie will be more happy here, and I promise to come here whenever I'm free, or when I need some help." I said and Grace patted my back but just then I heard a phone's ringtone from the doorway. I turned my head towards the source of sound and I realized that Xavier uses this ringtone.

"You're leaving me?" I heard a husky yet desperate voice.

"I... I'm just-"

"STOP! Dammit, just because of these petty papers, you're leaving me and giving up on our relationship which not even got started properly!? Here I thought, I'll apologize and you'll give us another chance but no! You don't even gave our relationship another thought!" Xavier fumed as he strode inside the room with heavy steps.

"Xavier listen to me first-" I got interrupted by him again.

"What's left to listen Gianna!? I heard everything from the start! Did you ask me if I would be happy with you or not!? You're just jumping to some conclusions which never came into my mind!? Who told you I won't be happy with you being on my side!! Rather my heart will shatter into pieces if you leave me like this!" Xavier shouted in a stern voice which made me flinch in fear, Grace caught hold of my arm and hugged me, as I sobbed and cried.

"Listen to me Xavier! There's no hope for us... what... what if in the future, our child is also born with blindness... don't you feel, that you deserve a more perfect lady instead of me!" I exclaimed.

"You-!" Xavier shouted to which I took a few steps back and I heard some rustling sound.

"Control your anger Xavier!" Grace exclaimed in a very stern voice. Grace caught hold of Xavier's bicep and dragged him out of the room.

"Mom but-" Xavier was about to say something when Grace shut the door in his face, leaving him astounded outside.

"Don't mind him Gianna. If you have made your decision, then you can do anything you want. But let me tell you, Xavier was not wrong. But I know, there should be mutual agreement between both the parties before getting into any kind of relationship. If this is what you've decided then I promise we won't force you. I'll try to make him understand, take care dear." Grace said and hugged me softly for the last time before leaving the room.

I had already called Amelia, she was waiting for me outside the Moretti Mansion. I picked up Charlie with great difficulty from my bag and closed it. I took the reports from my bed, my bag and my cane and left from my room. I greeted Mr. Moretti for the last time, Brinley started wailing and crying loudly to see me leaving them. She pestered me to not leave, but I just hugged her silently and wiped her tears.

"Be happy Brinley. Keep her safe and cherish her, Adam." I said to both of them and hugged them again for the last time. I hugged Derek, and I was about to hug Xavier when he moved a few steps away.

"Gianna, mio cuore, please change your mind, then I will hug you forever, please don't hurt me like this. I... I don't know how to convince you... please don't leave, I beg you." His words made me suck in a huge breath and tears started forming in my eyes. I turned and went to Grace to greet her final goodbye.

I left from there without looking back. It hurts, it hurts a lot, but I know I'm making a right decision. Charlie came running behind me, Amelia told the guards to lock the gate after they leave and not let Charlie out. He barked and whined continuously as I sat in the car, he even stood up on his paws at the height of the window and barked while looking at me. I touched the window and smiled looking at him in his eyes.

"Be happy, at least for me... please be happy." I said and wiped my tears which had stained my cheeks.

"Aaaowwww!!" Charlie let out a big whine and I could see tears forming in his eyes. I told the driver to drive, as soon as he sat in the car after placing our bags.

"Anna, are you sure about leaving Charlie here?" Amelia asked me in a serious tone and just nodded my head silently.

With that, we left from there.

What I didn't knew was, this decision of mine, was going to be the biggest mistake of my life.
