"Specialist Gabriel!" A very domineering and buff man call out. He has a mustache with very dark eyes and a rigid face to come with. He is well over 2 meters in height. "Yes, sir!" Specialist Gabriel says while saluting. "Update of your cultivation." The buff man says.
"Yes, sir! My body cultivation is in the lower warrior realm, my energy cultivation is in the peak meridian tempering stage and my soul cultivation is in the middle young soul realm. Sir!" Specialist Gabriel reports.
"So, you have broken through the warrior realm. That is very impressive Specialist Gabriel. Are you still adamant on focusing more of your time on soul cultivation?" The man asks. Specialist Gabriel is quiet for a full minute. "Yes, sir! I still want to focus on my soul path." Eventually Specialist Gabriel says full of confidence.
The man suddenly lets out an uproarious laughter. "General Drake?" Specialist Gabriel apprehensively asks. When general Drake's laughter dies down, he answers. "Relax Jane, I haven't taken you under my wing because of some random reason.
I have taken you under my wing because of your decision to go against the guidelines of the military by choosing your soul cultivation as your main path."
General Drake lets out a big sigh to calm himself down. He clears his throat. "I called you here because you are getting a promotion and will be given a spirit weapon because you will also become a squad leader." A sudden dead silence fills the room. Jane abruptly says. "Can I refuse the squad leader position?"
General Drake almost chokes on his spit when he heard this. "You are refusing the chance to get a spirit weapon?" "Yes!" Jane answers immediately. General Drake heavily coughs. "Are you sure?" Now Jane waits for a moment before saying. "Yes, I am absolutely sure."
General Drake strangely looks at Jane. Then sighs and shakes his head. "Well then, Specialist Gabriel hereby I promote you to Corporal Gabriel." Jane bows while saying. "Thank you, General Drake." With that she turns and walks out of General Drake's office.
Later that day in one of the female dorms. A sigh escapes Jane while laying down on her bed. 'One year. One year and then this barrier will be gone and can I search for my brother.' She turns in her bed and looks at the time. It is 10:13 P.M right now. 'I should probably sleep. Tomorrow some brats from Japan will come here for some stupid military exchange program.' Jane grumbles inside her head before falling asleep.
"Fall in!" A deep voice rumbles across the field. Jane is standing in line with her peers from the military. They are currently inside the combat arena. It is fairly big almost as big as a soccer stadium. It is circular in shape. Walls of metal for protection and the field itself is of hard concrete. This arena is built especially for combat on open terrain.
"Our colleges from Japan have agreed to have a military exchange with our base. These two weeks you will have different opponents to spar against. They will train together with you and do some assignments with you.
We have chosen to have the younger generation participate in this exchange. You all are all 17 or 18. There are 30 of you and 30 of them. This way it will be fairer. The goal of this exchange is for us human to become a whole. We all still feel the feeling of dread hanging above our heads. Do you understand!" The commander that oversees this event says.
"Yes, sir!" 30 soldiers call out at the same time. From the 30 that are present Jane is the smallest here. She stands at 6'1 which is pretty tall for a woman but everyone else is 6'3 or taller. Even though she is small, she has the highest body and soul cultivation from all of them.
She is very good at suppressing her undulations so nobody except the commander present knows how strong she is. The commander only knows because he had read her file though. You should know every human started cultivating at the same time. The ones with talent easily shot past everyone with cultivation. But because of the feeling of constant dread the worlds system is being upheld.
For example, a general in the army can have a very low talent for cultivation but will stay being a general. Jane has a very high talent for cultivation for all three paths but because she had to wait a year to start with energy cultivation because she was 17 at the time. Even though she is one of the strongest here, even stronger than the commander she is still at the rank of colonel right now.
The higher ups could not let her advance so fast through the ranks so quickly and it didn't help that Jane mostly declines the extra positions that she is still lingering at the lower ranks.
One of the metal walls of the arena opened up and a group of youths ranging between 17 and 18 walked inside. These youths stopped in front of the commander and made a salute. The commander that accompanied the youths from Japan stepped forward.
"Commander Takashi greets Commander Carter." Commander Takashi salutes. Commander Carter salutes back and says. "Commander Carter greets Commander Takashi, thank you for coming." Commander Takashi dips his head. "Don't worry about it. We should have done this sooner."
Commander Carter says. "Yes, we should have. Now that you all are here, we shouldn't stall any longer. Everybody introduce yourselves!"
Jane and the others salute and say. "Yes, sir!" The one of the left of Jane starts. She says her name and rank. "Emilia Johnson, Specialist." "Bert Derkson, Specialist." … "Jane Gabriel, Corporal." "Gabe Williams, Corporal." … "Kristina Garcia, Sergeant."
The first 8 were all specialists then came 4 corporals and last 2 sergeants. When introducing unknown to the 30 participants they were all being observed by some people behind a one-sided window. There were two adults who observed and two teenagers hanging in the back, holding hands sitting on a sofa both had their eyes closed.
One of the adults turn to the couple. "What do you see?" The adult asks. The girl that is resting her head on the boy next to her opens her eyes. Her eyes start to glow in a fierce white light. Her face started to scrunch up a bit. When the boy felt the strain on the girl, he his grip on her hand tightened. His eyes began to glow a fierce white and a calming wave of energy enveloped the girl. She visibly relaxed.
"Every time I see this it still mesmerizes' me." The other adult whispered in awe. The glowing of the girls' eyes calmed down and eventually disappeared. "And?" The first adult asked. "There are some potential individuals among them. My own cultivation base isn't strong enough to look through one of them."
"Oh? Interesting. Which one?" The girl stands up and walks to the window and points to a girl of the Americans. "That is the one." The girl continues to stare at her. "Jane Gabriel? She was just promoted to corporal yesterday. How come she isn't in a higher position yet when you cannot see through her?" When the second adult said all this. Jane felt someone stare at her and she turned her head toward the direction the feeling came from.
All she saw was just the wall of the arena. "Wow, she has good senses." The first adult says. Jane shrugs and looks forward again. On the window a screen is projected with the information of Jane. "Jane Gabriel. 18 years old. Family consists of older brother and parents.
Joined the army because she wants to search for her brother when the protection is gone. Her soul armament is a one-handed double-bladed axe. Cultivation focus: …Soul path? Interesting, very interesting."
