The beast charged towards Isolda screeching and roaring as it sped across the clearing. Isolda remembered she could shadow port, the creature had frightened her so that she had forgotten she was an autumn witch. She was no match for its power, but she had the ability to teleport to shadows.
She jumped into the shadow of a large pine tree and teleported behind the creature at the opening of the clearing. It bellowed as it charged headlong into another large pine tree. It staggered confused for a moment before roaring angrily and wildly search the area for his prey. Isolda jumped back into the shadows and watched as the monster searched for her, sniffing the air and grunting loudly as it stomped in circles. It could smell her but as soon as it got too close she would pop into another shadow on the opposite side. " i can evade it but how do i kill it? I bet lizard said how you kill a bramble beast and i decided to ignore him." Isolda scolded herself, how stupid she was to ignore the lizard and how much she could use that information now. " my vassal, bramble beasts are my brothers creation, the ancient of the harvest. To kill his creature you just need to use living black fire." Isolda had not been very good at making living black fire, she had only been able to summon an odd purple fire that didn't burn when it touched anything and she wasn't sure if it was alive.
A sharp pain hit her like electricity inside her head, " you will produce living black fire and slay this mindless beast to show me you are worthy of my guidance. You will do this or i will leave your soul and take your life and find a new vassal." Isolda knew he wasn't lying or making an idle threat. She could feel the sincerity in every word that echoed in her mind. " master please instruct me on how to properly use the spell, i fear my skills need your guidance." She tried flattery, there had to be a piece of the spell she was missing that her master was trying to make her figure out on her own. She didn't feel that right now was a great time to fail at a new spell. " you have to mean its destruction, have want it with all of your existence. You have to give the fire the will to kill with your own hatred and anger. That is all i will tell you the rest is up to you." Then her mind went quiet and she knew she had been left alone to fight the monster.
The monster finally gave up pursuit of Isolda and started back towards the camp where yoka and Jani'dae lay grasping for life. It made its way over to Lizards lifeless body and began to wrap him in vines that unraveled from its body. The vines turned a blood red as the orcs flesh became shriveled as a sun dried tomato. After a few moments the vines unwrapped the orc revealing bones inside his clothes and nothing else. It roars and started to walk towards Yoka, who's breathing had become shallow and wraspy and was inches from leaving the world. She had been sliced open at her chest, which was constantly trickling blood down the front of her traveling cloths.
Isolda ported as close to them as she could, she wasn't sure if she should save yoka and Jani'dae. If she let the beast eat them no one would suspect she lived and she could more easily go to the kraken clan and carryout her masters plan without any disturbances. Isolda was still just a child and she would be watched by her adopted mother at all times if they lived and Isolda still had an attachment to the owl clan orcs. They did take her in and save her life.
Isolda reached deep into her mind chanting the incantation she had been told by the maw. "Irasidai vleklar incanidae", the ancient most language came from her lips low at first, but as she felt the spells power surge through her body like a tide of anger and hate. She began yelling the curse at her highest volume as she lept from the shadows a dozen yards behind the beast. He hands began to emit a black aura before becoming encased in black flames. Isolda smiled as she continued her spell, every single time she repeated the verse the flames grew larger in her hands.
She did not feel the heat herself but the ground around her began to blacken as the flames incinerated everything around her in a three yard radius. " now its my turn to show you how it feels to be frightened, to watch yourself die in the most horrible of ways." Isolda said cruely as she released her anger and pointed her hands in the beasts direction sending the jet black flames at the beast. Regrettably it didn't know it needed to dodge the black fire rocketing towards it and and instead turned and roared at it as it began to expand into a large fireball. The beasts flesh had already began to show damage from the incoming fireball, its vines beginning to turn to charcoal. It screamed as the fireball engulfed him melting his flesh and bones until nothing lay but smoldering ashes and a small black bird.
The fire was swirling above the little bird but it was not burning it, rather it looked more like it was attacked to the bird. Isolda watched for a moment as the little bird looked up and noticed the fire swirling above, it tweeted a little tweet before sucking the fire out of the air in into its chest. The little bird expanded like a balloon at first before returning to its original size. Then the bird(which was already black as night) became as black as a pool of ink. Its talons, eyes, and beak became the color of charcoal.
" Good my child. You are indeed worthy of my guidance and my favor. This bramble bird is now the living embodiment of black fire. It will be useful ahead to help you finish a task for me in the future. Care for it and help it grow." The maw instructed and Isolda diligently listened.
After a few moments she focused back on Jani'dae and Yoka, they had been injured and she wasn't sure to what extent. She walked slowly to her mother first, she was bloody and beaten but conscious with her eyes closed breathily in heavy sighs. She began to cast a spell to help heal the injured orc until she heard the sound of a twig snapping in the woods.
