Kidnapping

I was roaming through the castle after breakfast the next day. I stopped a servant and asked him, "Is there a library here?"

The servant answered, "yes," I smiled.

"Could you point me in the direction?", I asked.

He gave me the directions and soon I was outside the library door, feeling excited.

In the old castle where I lived with my mother, there was a study but no library. I had books delivered to me from outside the forest and in my previous life I never came across an actually good and large library. So all in all this was going to be exciting. I opened the doors and was amazed at the size of it. It was larger than I expected.

There seemed to be this podium on which there was a silver book shaped thing. I walked close to it to read the inscription underneath.

It read, 'State what you want to read and the books will come to you.'

Ooohhh, I thought to myself as I said, "magic spells for beginners." A bunch of books from several different sections came flying at me and started rotating around me slowly. I grabbed a few that looked interesting and the rest went back in the shelves.

I, ofcourse had already mastered beginner level magic. This was a guideline to teach Evan. It would do him some good if he could try learning these. Also I had realised in my old life, that teaching someone teaches you more than being taught by someone, so this would help me in a way too.

I skimmed through the headings and chose a few of the easiest spells so that I could show them to him today.

The doors of the library opened a while later when I was reading. It was a servant. I called to him and asked if I could take the books with me, and he said ofcourse I could.

So I took a couple of books with me to my room and set them aside. After that I went outside for some exercise in the garden.

It was only after evening time that I went up to Evan's room and knocked on it.

I set the books in my arm on his side table. "What's that?", he asked me curiously.

"Books."

"Well,yes but, books about what?"

"Hmm. You can read right?"

"Ofcourse I can read, sheesh", he seemed a bit embarrassed that I thought he couldn't read.

"Good", I said. "You can read them later. Tomorrow. They are for you. Once you are done, let me know I'll take them back to the library. For now let's go outside."

Once we were back outside in the garden. I pushed his wheel chair to a clearing between the flowers that we saw yesterday.

" I want to show you something", I smiled. I lifted my right hand up with my palm facing towards the sky and then I formed a small ball of air. It was a simple magic trick for making the air rotate. Not enough to harm anything but good for increasing your magic skill.

"Want me to tell you how it's done?", I showed him the small air ball and made it move around his head.

"You mean I can do that?", he asked. It was sad that no one has bothered teaching him just because they thought he was weak. He didn't need to be weak. I smiled at him, "Sure you can. Look. Giv eme your hand."

I grabbed his palm and made it face upwards. "Okay, now I want you to concentrate on the surface on top of your palm and imagine moving the air on top of it into a circle. Just try imagining it as vividly as you can."

Evan furrowed his eyebrows in concentration and the air on top of his palm moved slightly." Did you see that? ", he seemed excited.

I smiled at him." Yes, now keep concentrating and try to form a ball like I did."

He started concentrating again and a small ball formed but it was dispersed just in a few seconds.

I patted him, "that's really good for a first try. Keep doing it and you'll be able to move it like you move your finger."

"This is so awesome. Thank you for teaching me."

"No problem. The books I gave you hav emore on the concept and stuff of this trick. Personally I didn't really like it but maybe it could help you. Anyways try reading them tomorrow morning."

"Oh so they were magic books? That's seriously awesome. I tried reading a few before but they were too hard an do couldn't do anything."

"You probably chose the wrong spells to begin with. It's always good to start small. Now keep practicing."

Evan practiced while I read a book I found in the library earlier. After a couple of minutes he was able to maintain its form for longer. I thought this would be enough for day one. Now on to the next activity. I picked up a couple of light weights I had asked a servant to bring earlier.

"What's that for?"

"Making your arms stronger."

He didn't look as excited as he did with the magic trick but he nodded. I showed him how to lift the weight properly and he looked at it with concentration.

"Okay how about we see how many you can do easily?"

Evan started lifting and he was able to do it fifteen times before he seemed like he was struggling.

"Okay rest a little and then try doing it again."

I made him exercise his arms. After which I decided to try a spell on him. I created bubbles and wrapped them around his legs, like I had done when I was small and lifted him in the air. It seemed a bit uncomfortable for him, but I soon got the hang of it and moved him through the air.

"Wow! What is this!? It's amazing!", he exclaimed as I landed him on his wheel chair. "Can I do it too? I was moving so fast!"

"Yes, but not right now. You'll be able to do it if you keep practicing the basics."

He seemed a bit deflated but it had the effect I expected. He was motivated, and then I heard a loud noise nearby. I looked around and spotted a servant. "You take Evan up to his room."

I patted him on his head and let the servant take him towards the castle and then I rushed towards the noise. When I reached there, there was nothing.

Well that's strange, I thought. I started going back towards the castle. When I reached the clearing I saw that the grass was cut off in a patch. "Well that wasn't there before", I thought to myself. I sat down and placed my hand on the ground. I could detect the faint trail of Evan's magic from there. Evan did this? But why? I have to check this out. I used a detection spell and I could sense Evan's magic core from some distance. The problem was that he was headed away from the castle not towards it.

I quickly sent a mental message to my father, hoping that he would come. I informed him of what was happening and asked him to follow my trail. After that I quickly dashed in the direction Evan was in. He was already outside the palace gates and was heading through the trees near the palace. I caught up to him soon. He was with two men dressed in black. One of them was the servant I had handed him over to. I cursed myself for being stupid.

"Hand him over unless you want to die", I said to them as I jumped in front of them.

"Ryan!", Evan cried out to me.

"Oh so the prince is here now huh? Let's take him too. It'll fetch us a bigger price."

I frowned. A fight it was then.

I formed a whip out of fire from my hand because I didn't have my sword with me. I directed it at one of the guys and he dodged. He kept dodging all my attacks. It was getting frustrating. I used another magic spell and unleashed fire from the ground but the man deflected the fire.

After that he started attacking me with daggers former from magic and even though I dodged most of them I was unable to dodge all of them and I got hit by two. One in my left arm and the other in my thigh. Further slowing my movements.

"Hurry up and use restraining magic on him", the man fighting me said as he took Evan from the other guy.

A bunch of chains appeared from around me as the man who was holding Evan before started muttering a spell. They were impossible to dodge and I got caught in them. I struggled against them but all they did was dug further in my skin.

I could hear Evan crying out.

"Damn it", I glared at the men as I struggled.

"You should stop that unless you want the chains to cut you into pieces. Your magic isn't strong enough to break them."

It was a thought that crossed my mind. So magic could destroy them? I started releasing my magic powers aiming them at the chains. I was releasing too much and just as the chains broke, my wings also came out by default because I was focusing all my energy on the chains. I even ended up focusing my concealment magic energy on the chains. I felt refreshed as my wings and horns came out from the magic. Hiding them also suppressed quite an amount of my magic so releasing them was like a boost.

"What the heck? Wings?", the guy who had used the chains looked dumbfounded.

The other guy on the other hand smirked, "so that's why they hid you away? We don't even need to kidnap you two anymore", he laughed. "let's leave", he said.

"What? Why?", the other guy asked.

His question wasn't answered but I knew the answer. If word got out the entire royal family would be in danger. I didn't really care for my father but, my mother. I couldn't let her die and Evan was too young to die too. I had to shut them up here.

I tried copying the chain technique I saw earlier and made fire ropes that surrounded the two men. They were unable to dodge and got burned but one of them extinguished the flames before they could catch fire. I kept on attacking them but they deflected. I was at the end of my power. I had to end this soon. I had hoped father would come but I guess he wasn't coming. It was hard fighting two guys at once, and to top it off they were strong.

I used my fire whip on the guy who had made the chains and while he was busy avoiding it. I manipulated the air behind his neck making it sharp enough to slice right through his neck.

Dodging their attacks was easier now that I had my wings out. Evan was rested against a tree. Now there was only one of them left, but between us it was a battle of dodging. We both perfectly dodged each other's attacks. The problem was my magic energy was running out and he still had enough left. His attacks started hitting me as I got exhausted from all of the use of the magic energy.

My body and wings both were bleeding. I landed on the ground as it was becoming painful to fly.

"F-father?", I managed to stutter out. He had come. Relief filled me as my father's sword cut off the man's head and I fell to the ground. Evan seemed to be calling out to me in a worried voice.

"I'm fine", I replied to his concerned voice. After that my father carried both of us to the palace. He used concealment magic on me so that I was invisible, not just my wings but my entire body. Since he couldn't just conceal my wings. I was so glad that he came. I fell asleep as soon as I was laid down on a bed.
