The 1st Sports Festival (Part 1)

The entire classroom was silent as Aizawa, covered in bandages from head to toe, entered and stood in front of the class. Nobody dared to make a noise. It was Uraraka who spoke up. "...Um… Mr. Aizawa… shouldn't you be resting in the hospital…?" "My physical well being doesn't matter. Heroes are expected to show up no matter what." Aizawa stood up straight. "I know some of you are still shaken by the incident that occurred last week. The school has taken some extreme measures to make sure that something like that never happens again. Now, let's start talking business. How many of you know what is happening next month?" The class was silent again. Chris raised his hand. "Go ahead, Chris." "The UA Sports Festival is next month, correct?" "Good memory." The class exploded into cheers of excitement. Iida, the newly elected class president, managed to quiet everyone down. Aizawa continued explaining things. "UA has collectively decided that, despite the recent attack, it is important to save face and show the world that the best hero school in the country is not afraid of these threats. The Sports Festival will continue on, with some increased security. Homework will be assigned at the end of each day and you'll do it at home with the textbooks you all received on your first day of school. From this day until the Sports Festival, all class days will be open for training. Different heroes will watch over your class so you get the most time to train possible. Jason, you have a question?" The class looked back to the quirkless student, who lowered his hand. "Who will we be facing in the Festival?" "Everyone in your grade level. The students in general Studies might have some quirks that surprise you. The Support Course is always allowed to use any equipment that they create. Not to mention you'll be competing with your rival class." The class was silent, now nervous about competing against so many other students. Aizawa seemed to notice this. "Remember, you all have an advantage that they don't." Sato, the classmate with the quirk 'Sugar Rush', raised his hand. "What might that be?" Shoto answered from the back of the class. "We've fought real villains." The class looked back at her. She remained silent, so Jason spoke up. "We all know what it's like to have your back against the wall with your life on the line. If you want to win, you have to fight with that same mentality from last week. Kirishima smiled and stood up. "The competition is going down!" Mina jumped up. "Hell yea!" Jason smirked at Chris. "Just like you're going down." "Oh, it's on now."

A month had passed in the blink of an eye. Jason and Chris were both standing in front of a very Ms. Harper. "I want you both to be very careful today. Got it?" "Yes ma'am." "Ok mom." "I'll be watching in the stands. Try to have fun and be safe." She glared at Chris. "And try not to break your limbs again." Jason snickered, winning an elbow to the gut. Momo, Kirishima, and Mina were waiting at the entrance of the stadium. Chris and Jason said goodbye to Ms. Harper one more time before jogging up to their friends. Jason glanced over his shoulder to see Shoto walking up alone. He stopped and waited for her, letting the group go on without him. Shoto looked up and saw the smiling student. She walked a little bit faster to catch up. The two walked in together. "Are your parents coming to watch?" "Don't care." "...Ok then." Shoto took a breath. "Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude. I just-" She didn't finish her sentence. Jason felt the need to change the topic. "Do you happen to know what events we'll have to do?" She seemed to welcome the topic change. "They're random every year." "I know. I was just hoping you heard rumors about what we'll be doing." "Nope." "Damn. Well, I guess the surprise is part of the whole thing. Shit, I think they're starting." The two sprinted down the main hallway to the field.

Midnight, often known as the R Rated Hero, smiled as she held the mic up to her mouth. "Ladies, gentlemen, heroes, and students! I would like to welcome you all to the 2018 UA Sports Festival!" The crowd went wild. She waited a minute for everyone to quiet down before continuing on. "This year's Sports Festival is set to be a spectacular event, as the challenge today is something brand new! This year, there will be no obstacle course, no mental trivia, and, unfortunately, no hide and seek! This year, every single student will be thrown into the ring in a battle royale! The last 8 students still on the ring will move on to the quarter finals! Now let's get this party started!" The crowd erupted in cheers again.

"Begin!" Midnight's words hadn't even finished echoing around the stadium when the students started the massive brawl. Jason punched Denki in the face. "No annoying electricity here, bud." Jason then had to jump backwards as Momo swung a metal bat. "Really? Right off the bat?" "...I'm sorry, was that a pun?" "...Oh shit, that was a pun, wasn't it? Heads up." Momo dropped, narrowly avoiding a kick from Iida. Chris was trying to avoid Kirishima's sharp punches. "Come on, dude! Why are you coming after me?!" "Because we're friends!" "That doesn't make sense!" Tsuyu's tongue wrapped around Kirishima and threw him several yards away. Chris breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Tsuyu." She looked at Chris, who lost his smile. "...Oh no…" Chris began to dodge Tsuyu's attacks.

"Looks like the battle is heating up!" Prez Mic, another teacher in UA, was on the loudspeaker, keeping the crowd riled up. "Look at all of the skirmishes taking place all over the ring! I know who I'm betting on winning! What about you, Eraser Head?!" The bandaged up hero looked over at him. "How did I let you talk me into this?" "Oh! There were 120 students at the start, but we're already down to 50 within the first two minutes!"

Jason kicked Uraraka off of the stage. Literally. "Sorry about this!" She stood up, rubbing her back. "Ow. Well, best of luck!" She jogged to the sidelines. Jason turned around and ducked to dodge Iida's kick. "Oh. You again." The two fought for a few seconds before Jason got a good shot into Iida's gut and grabbed his arm. "Sayonara." Iida was thrown off of the stage. Jason then jogged closer to the center. "Now where is Chris…?"

Chris was at a loss. He didn't know what to do. He had a good idea on how to fight, but he was surrounded by chaos and combat. He had never trained for anything like this. "Chris!" He froze up as he heard a very familiar voice. He turned to Jason, who had a big smile on his face. "I'm scared." Chris took a defensive stance. "Of what?" "I'm scared I won't get to fight you in the tournament. So I'm going to beat you now. I hope you don't mind." Chris smiled. "No. Not at all. It'll be great…" One for All coursed through his right pointer finger. "...to knock you out!" Chris aimed at Jason, who had lowered himself, getting ready to dodge. The clash of titans was about to start.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are moving on to the next round!" Chris and Jason froze up in horror, then looked around. There were indeed only eight students left. Jason sighed. "Damn it." Chris looked around. "...It looks like we're all 1A." "Except that guy." Jason was referring to some guy with messy purple hair. "Is he 1B?" Chris shook his head. "...I don't think so…" "Anyways, I'll kick your ass later." Chris smirked. "You can try."

The finalists had been decided. In an hour, the first match would start. Mina sat down in the bleachers. "No fair! I wanted to win!" Kirishima patted her back. "...Don't worry… you'll get another chance next year…" Mina angrily yelled at him. "You were the one who eliminated me!" Kirishima ran from her. Both class 1A and 1B laughed at them. Shoto wasn't partaking in the laughing. She was focused on Jason. Mainly because he was walking up onto the ring, as he was in the first match. Jason stepped onto the ring. His opponent entered from the opposite end. It was his fellow classmate, Ojiro. Jason smiled. "A black belt with a tail. This is going to be interesting." Ojiro nodded. "I know you're exceptionally skilled in martial arts. It will be fun to fight you." Jason stretched out his arms. "I won't lie to you, dude. Out of everyone here in this tournament, you have the best chance at beating me." They bowed to each other, then got into their fighting stances. Midnight raised her hand. "Ojiro Mashirao vs Jason Miller! Begin!"

Ojiro charged Jason, who waited for him to get closer. Then the two experts engaged in hand to hand combat. Jason dove to the left just in time to dodge the giant tail. It was a smart move, since Ojiro's tail cracked the flooring. Jason was quick back onto his feet, but he was now on the defensive. Ojiro kept the pressure up, using his superior speed to keep Jason off balance. Ojiro began pushing Jason back to the edge of the ring. Chris smiled. Kirishima looked at him. "What?" "He did this with me in our first combat training." Ojiro spun and slammed his tail into Jason with the intent of knocking him out of the ring. However, Jason took the hit to the ribs. He smiled as he held onto Ojiro's tail and started spinning around. Ojiro was swept off of his feet as Jason continued to spin faster. The quirkless student let go. Ojiro was thrown off of the ring and landed on the pavement. Midnight raised her hand. "Ojiro has landed out of bounds! Jason is the winner!" The crowd erupted into cheers. Jason hopped off of the ring and offered a hand to Ojiro . "Good fight, dude." He smiled and accepted Jason's help. The two respectfully bowed to each other and walked out of the ring together.

"Next up is Eijirou Kirishima vs Shoto Todoroki! Begin!" Kirishima hardened himself and charged forward. "Alright Shoto! I hope you're ready to get ground pounded, because I'm-" Shoto planted her left foot down and created a massive ice wall that consumed Kirishima. Some of the excess ice was covering Midnight. She clearly wasn't happy about it. "...Kirishima…? Can you move…?" "Are you kidding?! I'm frozen here!" "Then it is decided. The winner is Shoto." Shoto put her right hand on the ice covering Kirishima and slowly began freeing him.

"Alright everyone! Now that the ice is all cleaned up, we're ready for the next match! Speaking of which, we have Momo Yaoyorozu vs Fumikage Tokoyami! Begin!" Momo quickly created a shield and blocked the first powerful attack from Tokoyami. She tried to create a weapon, but a second hit threw her back on her ass. "Momo has landed out of bounds!" Momo tensed up and looked down. She was far outside the line. "The winner is Tokoyami!" Momo picked herself up and quietly left the ring.

Jason was on his way to the waiting room, as he would be up next, competing against Shoto. He turned the corner and stopped. He had been mindlessly walking and hadn't noticed the yelling taking place. Shoto and Endeavor were in a massive argument. "If you used your fire, you wouldn't need the ice!" Shoto turned her back on him. "I'm not using fire! You can't make me!" "Shoto, why are you like this?! I swear, I will ground you!" She turned to him, flabbergasted. "Ground me? Ground me?! I'm 18, you oversized oven!" Endeavor raised a hand. "Why you little-" "Don't." Shoto and Endeavor both snapped their heads in Jason's direction, having not noticed him until he had spoken. Jason walked up, forcing a smile. "This isn't any of my business, but I would greatly appreciate it if you didn't hurt her right before we're scheduled to fight." He turned to Shoto, genuinely smiling now. "Come on. We only have a few minutes." Shoto blinked a few times before nodding and followed him. "Shoto! We aren't done here!" She snapped back at Endeavor. "Well I am!" She grabbed Jason by the arm and started walking faster. Endeavor grabbed her shoulder. "Look at-" Jason grabbed his wrist, now glaring up at the number two hero. "Let go, sir." The air turned cold. Shoto looked back and forth between the two alpha males glaring at each other. After a scary minute, Endeavor let go of Shoto. Jason let go of him. They glared at each other for a little while longer before Jason turned and began walking away with Shoto. The young woman breathed a sigh of relief. Then the hallway was consumed by heat.

Jason shoved Shoto out of harm's way before dodging Endeavor's first punch. Endeavor was surprised at his speed. Jason delivered three lightning quick blows to the hero's side. Endeavor ignored the pain and brought his elbow down on Jason. Jason grunted from the impact and dropped to a knee, shoving his elbow into Endeavor's thigh, forcing the hero to drop. Jason rolled behind him, quickly getting back up on his feet just in time to face Endeavor. Endeavor turned his palm backwards and tried to blast Jason, who was forced to jump to the side. Endeavor turned, ready to blast him away, but Jason was too close now. He clenched his fist and prepared a flaming punch. Jason smirked and raised his own fist to counter.

"Stop this! Both of you!" The booming voice shook the hallway. They knew who it was before they even turned their heads. All Might stormed down the hallway in the blink of an eye to separate the two. "Endeavor! I don't know what compelled you to fight a student, but you need to stand down!" He toned down his fire and stormed off. All Might looked to Jason. "Why were you two fighting?" Jason thought for a moment. "...Sparring practice." "...Sparring practice…?" "Yep." All Might knew full well that it was a lie. He was just surprised at how quickly Jason had come up with it. He shook his head. "...You two are late for your match. Get moving." Jason nodded and All Might walked off. Jason smiled at Shoto as she walked up to him. "I don't plan on holding back, Shoto. I'm going to win this tournament. Just you-" Shoto kissed Jason's cheek as a way to thank him before jogging off. Jason was frozen in place, his mind scrambled from that quick gesture. After a minute, he finally managed to collect his thoughts and run to his assigned waiting room.
