Minor Horde

The number of Zombies in front of the two should be close to three hundred in number. The zombies had gathered at the grated shutters of sports store and were trying to reach through to the few people inside. Matt could see three people inside and none of them seemed to be in good condition.

"We should use the service corridor to reach the survivors and then we can use the shutters to our advantage in killing the zombies outside the store," Matt said.

James could only nod in agreement as the number of infected filled him with a sense of dread at thought of a direct confrontation. They located the service corridor that lead to the sports store and made their way to the employee entrance. As they approached the door, Matt knocked to make sure not to alarm the people inside and get attacked in the process.

The door was quickly answered by a young man wearing the stores uniform. He looked to be around eighteen or so with a haggard expression on his face. He was rather excited to see someone with weapons that could help them out of their predicament.

"Thank God you two showed up. We were beginning to think that we were the only ones left alive in the whole mall," he said.

Matt nodded at him and said, "How many people are currently in the store and has anyone been bitten?"

At the mention of being bitten, the you man turned around slowly like he was made of rusty gears and looked in the direction of a young woman who had a blank stare in the corner. She appeared to be around twenty and was pale as a ghost. There was a bit visible on her calf and from that bit spread swollen veins and blood vessels. Comparing the way the wound looked to what he remember of the zombies that he had killed he noticed that it looked like her body was resisting the infection.

The woman was soaked in sweat and appeared to have had a mental breakdown. Matt approached her to inspect wound only to have her scream and try to escape from him.

"Don't worry, I won't do you any harm. I just want to look at your wound and see if there is anything I can do to help you," Matt said.

The woman seemed to calm down and return to her previous state of stillness. After looking at the wound, Matt concluded that without help, her body would begin to lose the battle against the infections and begin to degrade into a zombie. Thinking about what he could do, he decided to attempt to use is ability to assist her.

After a few moments, he came up with a game plan and placed his hand on her forehead causing her to flinch. Not minding the woman, he began to channel his energy in an attempt to give her body the strength to fight the infection off. At first, nothing happened other than the woman's face becoming flushed. Then Matt noticed that the color was slowly returning to her body and the inflamed veins across her body begin to shrink.

The woman then began to shake, it was subtle at first, then it began to grow in intensity. By the time his energy reached the bite wound, he was using his entire body weight to hold the woman down. After the energy reached the bite, the woman suddenly passed out and went still. It seemed that she would make a recovery and might even develop an ability as well.

Matt then looked around and noticed that everyone had been watching what was taking place in the corner. After seeing the woman pass out, they all let out a sigh of relief.

James approached and said, "What exactly did you do to her?"

"All I did was give her body the energy that it need to combat the virus. What happens next will be entirely up to her. The possibility of her turning should be fairly low, but someone should keep an eye on her just in case," Matt said.

Another woman around thirty approached and volunteered to watch her as she seemed to know the younger one. After that was done, Matt created two more spears like the one he had given James and handed it to the young man. He appeared surprised as he looked at Matt who had just created a weapon out of thin air.

In response to the man's stare Matt said, "Don't worry, we'll discuss all of this after we have dealt with the infected in front of the store. It won't be long before the shutter won't hold them anymore."

After that was said, the young man noticed that some sections of the shutters were beginning to show wear and signs of breaking. The three of them began using their spears to stab the the infected to thin their numbers. While doing this, Matt was testing whether or not he could channel his energy through a weapon and still be able to absorb his target. Surprisingly enough, he succeeded on the first try which he could only attribute to his ability getting stronger.

After another seemingly long hour, all of the infected had been cleared since a couple of the experiments that Matt was conducting paid off in clearing the infected faster. With that done, the three sat down to take a rest and talk while they had the chance.
