Unbelievable

After thirteen hours, Matt could see a landmass slightly out of their flight path. Checking the amount of energy he had left, it was necessary that he make a pit stop to recharge for a bit. The only thing that confused him though was that there shouldn't be an landmasses in this region of the sea. Just as he was preparing to avoid the strange landmass he noticed the waves on the strange island even from their altitude.

Matt came over the intercom to call James and Chris to the cockpit. After the two arrived, he pointed to the island that they were getting close to so that the two would notice it.

"Do you plan to land there?" James said.

"Landing there will be difficult. The terrain would make it impossible for a normal landing." Chris said.

"A difficult landing would be the least of our worries since that island is moving." Matt said.

"What do you mean its moving? Islands can't move, they are rooted to the ocean floor." Chris said.

"Its most likely a mutated turtle. Don't forget the size of the birds and fish we saw previously." Matt said

"You still want to land there don't you?" James said

"I want to land there for two reasons. The first being that I need to gather some energy which we can do by fishing and collecting the materials that have already washed up on the shore of its shell. The second reason is to find out if there is a way to capture or tame this creature. It would make an excellent sea base." Matt said.

"Thats all fine and good, but how do you plan to land there?" Chris said.

"There is an open space in the center of the shell that should be wide enough to fit the plane. All I have to do is land it there." Matt said

Both James and Chris looked at Matt with a bit of worry as they had no idea how this landing was going to be pulled off. With a few button presses and a decrease in altitude the plane hovered and made a perfect landing right where Matt wanted it.

Both men looked at Matt with looks that said there wasn't much that he could do anymore that could surprise them. Matt proceeded to explain how after deconstructing several aircraft it was like he was enlightened on all the ways to design an aircraft that would suit his needs. The two just nodded and accepted the fact that their leader was a whole bunch of absurd wrapped into one.

Leaving the aircraft, it felt like they were on a Hawaiian island with the way the peaks around them were formed and the forests that they could see just a little distance from them.

"It has only been eighty hours since the outbreak. How can a creature reach this size and grow trees and mountains on its back in that amount of time?" James said.

"One thing that I am certain of, is that the vents that started this whole thing most likely still haven't stopped putting out the pathogen. Considering that the land vents have to spread it around the whole atmosphere would explain why the growth of land dwelling creatures, to include humans, is much slower. The vents that most likely appeared on the ocean floor however have nowhere else for the pathogen to go except straight into the water." Matt said.

"That makes sense, but still does not explain the trees and this mountain." James said.

"That it is not a mountain, it is a growth that comes straight out of the shell. As for the trees and plants, it probably is part of an actual island that the turtle either lived on or as it was growing in size, it went into a hibernation state kind of what hybrids do when their powers increase. When it was going into said hibernation, it swam into a crevice on an island and broke that is land into pieces as it grew." Matt said.

With that explanation, the two men could only think about all of the possibilities that ha just be suggested as they went about their task of searching the island for usable resources.

Matt in turn made his way to what should be the head of the turtle since there was a wake in the opposite direction. Arriving at his destination, he found a good amount of debris from what looked like houses and boats which furthered his thoughts on his island theories.

While making his way around, he deconstructed all of the materials that he could find. Reaching a certain spot on the beach, Matt noticed the the shell striations that indicated an opening. Looking into the water, he could see what he could only assume was the neck and head.

Using a grappling hook that he had improvised, he threw it in the direction the head should be. Feeling that he had snagged something he began to pull. Strengthening himself with energy, he attempted to raise the head from the ocean to get a look at it. What he got instead was that the head didn't even budge. Instead of pulling the head to him, he decided to swim out to the head.

Fifty feet from the shore, Matt found what he was looking for. The head of the turtle looked just like it should except for long whiskers that extended out from its' face. The hook he had thrown had managed to latch onto one of the turtles nostrils making it so that he could pull himself directly to the head of the turtle.

Placing his hand on the head of the turtle, he exerted some of his energy. The turtle immediately began to raise its head from the water. Reaching the surface, Matt continued to use his energy to try and form a connection with it. The turtle quickly swung its head to the side, launching Matt back to the shore where the turtle was now staring at him.

Matt showed his hands to the turtle to show that he meant no harm and the turtle actually seemed to understand this motion as leaned in closer to examine him. Matt reached out and used his energy again on the snout of the turtle. Giving the turtle a little of his energy made the turtle look at him as though it was grateful.

What Matt did not expect however was for the whiskers of the turtle to begin to sway as he heard, "Thank you for the gift," in his head.
