The Hive 3

It was time for Matt to get to the real task of his day. He needed to clear the majority of the infected around this settlement to make it easy for them leave and then enter the settlement once they were finished with the hive. The first thing Matt did was channel a bit of energy into the pendant clinging to his skin as he jumped down from the wall. By the time he hit the ground, he was wearing a full body plate armor that covered everything except his face. The whole armor shown with a blue hue as it was able to utilize a very thin, but highly concentrated barrier.

This was the second function that Matt had thought of while designing this set of living armor. It concentrated and attracted his energy so that if wouldn't dissipate while also having the same functions as the barrier that he use to produce. He then pulled the hilt that he had designed for his energy blade off of the side of the armor. Normally it hung from his side on a chain, but when he put the armor on it would adhere to it.

Channeling his energy, a six foot beam of light extended from the hilt. He had designed the hilt to push energy straight out while a second layer formed on the outside of the beam that acted the same way a chainsaw does. The energy would flow up one side while flowing down the other to prevent the energy from spraying out the end like a fountain. This would also bring the energy that he gained from his enemies back to him after they were cut. The armor would also attract any energy that was created while using the hilt. He would never miss out on his constant absorption of energy with this new set of equipment.

He quickly cut down all the zombies that tried to swarm him. They all vanished in a flash of blue that then began to flow through the air back to him. Anyone that played video games would say that this looked like he was gaining EXP after killing monsters.

It took him roughly two hours to wipe out the majority of the horde even with his new weapons. The only difference was the amount of energy that he gained in the process. His vessel had been creating droplets of condensed energy the whole time and it was now about one third the way full.

Satisfied with the results, Matt jumped back to the top of the wall since he didn't want to make the same mistake he made last time where he got surrounded and thanked continuously. Seeing that a crowd had already formed at the gates, he knew he had made the correct decision.

Making his way to his group by way of the wall, he jumped down directly in front of the van. No one was surprised to see him and they were all geared up, ready to tackle the hive. Matt nodded and got in the van as the rest followed suit.

Forty minutes after leaving the settlement, the group was gathered on a roof top to survey the three story building that was the hive. Its windows had all broken out while red vines that pulsed like veins had covered every inch of the building. Every so often, several new level one infected would come out of the first floor to join the horde that already existed around the building. The second floor would produce between one and three level two infected at a slightly longer interval than the first floor.

The horde around this hive was massive to say the least. It was clear that this hive had been active for a while and no one had the guts to come and thin the infected to prevent them from spreading. Matt had just finished giving out the strategy, when a very large infected jumped down from the third story. It was horrible to look at as it didn't have any skin on its body and was covered in muscle. It was obvious by its size that this was a level three infected.

Since this was the first time they had ever met one and they didn't know if there were more of them, the decision was for Matt to go down first and stir up the infected to make them focus on him. He hoped that this would lead the new type of zombie to attack him while his group would work on the rest of the zombies that surrounded this place.

The battle began with Matt jumping from the roof top into the horde while swinging his energy blade that he had extended to ten feet for the moment. Since it didn't weigh anything, it didn't matter how long it was when he started to swing it. Spinning himself like a top, made him a whirlwind of blue as dozens upon dozens of zombies were being deconstructed with every rotation.

The horde of infected only rushed him for a moment, when a gap started to form around him. He was surprised since this was the first time he had not been continuously swarmed in the middle of a horde. He then noticed the very large level three infected was headed in his direction. The infected around him parted to allow it to pass making Matt feel that this infected had some sort of authority over the rest.

The very large level three began to run on all fours as its arms were like that of a gorilla. Matt moved as it got close, since he wanted to test its strength with his sword first. With a slice as they passed each other, Matt spun around to see the damage he had caused only to be shocked once again. There was only a thin line where his sword had passed across the arm of the level three. It was no more than a scratch, but it seemed that it was enough to anger the large infected.

It began to thrash around and crush the surrounding pavement as it tried to crush him. Every failed attempt only made it attach him harder and faster. Matt was doing his best to injure this infected as he was committing just as many attacks as his opponent was. The difference between the two was that Matt was actually landing blows.

While he was stalling for time, the others finally made their move to begin taking out the rest of the infected. Each had their own special weapons that allowed them to continuously whittle down the hordes numbers.
