Troubling Opponent

The following day, the group of survivors that was in the area finally made their appearance at the gates of the base. There were twelve people present that were seeking entry. The group consisted of three men, five women, and four children. Matt promptly opened the gates to allow the group to seek shelter inside the base. There wasn't much danger in the area anyway since his group had cleared the majority of infected in the past few days.

"Thank you sir for allowing us entry to you base." said a child at the front of the group.

"Not a problem. There was no reason to keep you all waiting in the first place. My group was just being cautious since we haven't had visitors with good intentions yet." Matt said getting an odd feeling from the child in front of him.

"You are pretty strong for a child of this civilization." the kid said.

Hearing this, Matt immediately flashed a short distance away from the kid, but it was almost like he didn't move since the distance between the two did not change. Matt had no choice but to take a defensive stance since he didn't know what was to come.

"There is no reason to be afraid. I have no intention of harming you and have actually been searching for you. You see, there is something very troubling happening outside." said the kid.

"Do you mean outside this base?" Matt asked.

"No, the world that you know is just a small portion of this world and the universe as a whole. I am Seph and came to this planet from across the Milky Way after noticing a disturbance in the balance of power in this region." Seph said.

Matt was surprised hearing this, but did not doubt the truth of what had been said. He was aware that there life outside the bounds of this planet since he had been on task force designated to containing such information while he was in the military.

"So why are you looking for me then?" Matt asked.

"Well, I guess we should start at the beginning. Shall we find a place to sit and discuss this matter?" Seph asked.

Matt nodded and led Seph to roof top of the headquarters building where some chairs and a table had been placed.

"You seem awfully calm about this." Seph said.

"Why wouldn't I be considering the state of the world?" Matt said.

"That is very true. Anyway, lets begin the process. I'll need you to take my hands and relax so that I can show you what is going on." Seph said as she reach for his hands hands.

Taking the kids hands, he was instantly taken to a dark space where he couldn't see anything. After a moment, there was a bright flash and the darkness was filled with galaxies of stars. The sight was something to truly behold because of its beauty.

"What you are seeing is the beginning before there were other races that inhabited the stars. It is said that there were gods born at the same time as the creation of the universe and these gods created all of the civilizations that currently exist." Seph said.

"After some time, the gods had children with races that they had created and those children took over for their parents to govern while the gods went off to create new civilizations. The wold you live in is one of many that has been created with humans. The one who created the world I am from also created this one. He is also my father and he left me in charge of one of the planets he populated." Seph said.

Up to this point, Matt had been listening with great interest, but could help but raise a question.

"Who is in charge of this planet?" Matt asked.

"My father was in charge of this planet until recently. He died before he could appoint a successor to keep this planet in check. That is the reason that your planet has fallen into a state of chaos. He was killed by what we call Devourers. They were created at the same time as the Gods and have been kept in check until now. The Devourers have grown in number and strength up to this point and have finally started to out pace the Gods in strength. If they aren't stopped then we will all be doomed." Seph said.

"So where do I come into this? Its not like I have the power to help." Matt said.

"That is exactly why I have come. You seem to have evolved to the point of developing the powers of a God. Although the rate of growth seems slow to you since you just developed this power, but it is actually very fast considering it took me three hundred years to reach your level and another thousand before I could govern and leave my planet." Seph said.

"So how do I increase my power to the point that I can rival a God?" Matt asked.

"You would have to condense your power into a spark first. After that, you would use that spark to ignite your inner dimension. That is all I know on the matter since that is as far as I have made it." Seph said.

Matt took stock of his energy vessel and felt that it was only an eight away from being full since he had been using deconstruction to add to the amount he already had and the star he had created in his space vessel had been giving him a constant supply of energy. It would only be a matter of time before he reached the thresh hold and would be able to push open the door to Godhood.

"There is only one problem, the Devourer is still in this area since it is most likely in a dormant state after fighting with my father. The moment that you break through, it will awaken and seek you out. I would be a most troublesome opponent for you as soon as you break through." Seph said.

"Then what do you suggest we do?" Matt asked.

"We should plan ahead." Seph said with a grin.
