Chapter 11

My brain hammered against my skull as I reached my hand out to soothe the stinging ache. A flood of pain surged through my left shoulder, wincing with my teeth grit I let out a sob.

The front glass of the car was cracked completely, but God's grace didn't break. My seat's door barely hinged to the car, it was awkwardly bent from inside going out of shape.

I clenched my throbbing head crying out in pain, unable to bear it. I acquired a few deep breaths, trying to bring back my steady breathing. It happened so quickly, so unpredictably fast, the driver of the truck from the opposite side lost his control over his vehicle dashing the car in front of us, resulting in both the vehicles to push back and knock us off to the end of the road. If it wasn't for the guard rail we would have been dead by now.

My eyelids softly opened once I understood that the pain had abated a bit. Glancing to my side I quickly straightened up looking at Skylar in horror. Her head on the steering wheel covering the face with the black hair. I gulped in horror as I watched her hands lifelessly dangle in the air. Tension tugged at my heart as my shaky hand touched her shoulder.

"S-Skylar? Skylar?" I sobbed, pulling her back and rearing her head on the seat.

There was a huge bump on her head when I checked her breathing. I sighed in relief.

She was alive.

"Skylar get up!" I shook her. To no avail, she was still insensible.

"Oh god," I panicked looking around to somehow go out. My door was out of shape with a guard rail blocking me. I couldn't go from my side.

Sweat trickled down my forehead, my hair stuck to the side of my face. I slowly got up from my seat wincing in pain as I successfully got to the back seat, wasting no time to go out.

Fresh air from the trees hit my face and the sun warmed my face, but I bothered less when I gasped at the damaged car in the middle of two vehicles. White smoke came out of the car as I struggled to see the people inside, squinting my eyes I moved around to see a young couple in the front seats when I moved even closer I saw a small girl no older than three years lying unconscious on the car's floor in the backseat. I hurried towards her punching the window a couple of times before pulling the door. I was panting heavily as I bent forward to examine the small girl.

I closed my eyes, tears trailing down my face in relief. The girl was alive. I did the same thing with the couple, but unfortunately, they were no more. My heart clenched in agony for the girl at her loss. I wept, moving away whilst running a hand through my hair and my sweat covered face.

My left hand was completely immobile, I couldn't use it even if I moved it slightly. The pain had me paying copiously.

When I checked the truck driver he was breathing faintly, the side of his face wet with dark crimson blood. The sight had me puking and I felt sick at the moment.

If only I was not stubborn maybe this wouldn't have resulted. It was all because of me Skylar was in such a situation.

The sound of the car had my head whipped to the side as I watched a nearly old aged couple get out of the car, walking to me with terror in their eyes.

I leaned my upper body on the vertical placed soft white pillow as I tiredly looked at the small injection on my wrist with its way up to the saline packet.

I was tired, extremely tired as I glanced around the white walls of one of the rooms in the hospital and the soft bed I laid on.

The dreadful memories of the accident raided my brains, vivid images passing one by one before my eyes. Tears trickled without me knowing as I exhaled with a heavy heart. It was all my fault. All because of me Skylar lied on the bed unconscious beside mine.

A sob broke through my lips as I saw her body rest peacefully with an oxygen mask keeping her alive. The guilt hit me more when I saw Jace sitting by her side weeping silently as he held her hand in a firm grip.

The couple who helped me was very nice and considerate enough to admit us in a hospital. The lady was very caring and had helped me a lot to calm down. I was very grateful for her even when I blamed everything on myself. She helped feel better with her soothe and gentle words.

I had even learned that the truck driver died as soon as he was brought to the hospital and the small girl was kept in the ICU. Unfortunately, the doctors confirmed that the young couple was dead, but by God's grace they weren't her parents but in fact, were her uncle and aunt.

My injuries weren't as severe as Skylar's, however, the wound on my shoulder was a bit serious, but would heal within no time.

"Heaven, you're awake." I heard a croaky voice and turned to look at Jace. His eyes puffy and an attained look on his face.

I nodded with a small smile.

He turned back to his mate and said, "Skylar wake up, please. Let me look into your eyes, please don't make me suffer."

My lips quivered as I fought back the tears which threatened to fall at the sight of Jace wailing.

I closed my eyes begging for sleep to overcome me wanting to never open them again.

How would I be able to face Skylar with this face?

The ugly face of her friend who risked both of our lives just because she feared an Alpha.

Like any other male werewolf, a buffy man entered the room, his eyes solely fixed on Jace as he bowed down in respect.

"What is it, Connor?" Jace asked.

"Alpha safely landed in California and notified us that he will come back in three days," he solemnly informed him.

Jace nodded. "Good."

"Alpha knows about the accident and is very worried, he told us to fully concentrated on keeping the Female Beta and her friend safe."

Jace said, "Alright Connor. You can leave."

I turned my head to the other side wondering if all the words Skylar uttered about him were unmistakable.

Was Alpha Lucas really a nice person as she says?

Would my opinion really matter if I accepted him?

Would he treat me like a person rather than a possession?

Because all I've heard from other people about him was his looks, body and him being a high authorised person.

These things didn't matter to me. If I ever fall in love with him, all I would want would be his trust, loyalty and his understanding towards the point of views.

I would accept him right away if he assured me that he would do anything to give me these things.

It had been two days in the hospital and I was finally being discharged. All this made me so happy but angry at the same time when Jace told me not to worry about the hospital bills since their glorified Alpha paid for us.

Seriously, it wasn't necessary.

I knew I had less money but I would have somehow managed to pay it. I didn't need their Alpha's support.

But stupid Skylar told me not to worry about it because he was 'my' man and go any extent for me. Her words, not mine. But the happy news was Skylar was back to consciousness again last night bringing joy to me, especially Jace. He had planned a grand welcome party for his mate but cancelled when Skylar gave him a tongue lashing and made him promise her to not waste his money on such a silly party. Honestly, a dinner party would go fine.

What made me smile even more was the fact that Jace had told his friends to bring my luggage safely to one of the guest rooms at the G-pack house; a packhouse filled with youngsters. There were many pack houses and the letter 'G' just gives a name to one packhouse which was granted to me, a piece of information if you didn't know what I meant. I had planned to stay there for a few days till I got a job and find a house somewhere near my working place. I finally came to a conclusion and decided that I won't migrate and stay here.

Moving out of here scared me. If fate had a tendency to go to such great lengths then I don't think I should meddle with it and risk my loved one's life again. I should just deal with it within the boundaries.

"Be safe and don't vanish away till I get discharged," Skylar warned as she glared at me.

"I won't. Promise," I assured.

I was back in my clothes and was ready to leave for the packhouse. Well, it's the only place where I can stay for a while, but this small stay would result in a great effect on my life. I knew it and I expect myself to be a little more careful. It's going to be difficult with my ring stolen. Apparently, one of the staff members had stolen it and had run away with no trail left behind, the staff had apologised to me. I felt dejected and yelled at them for not being careful. More than me Skylar was affected since it was her ex-best friend's gift. I couldn't help but convince her that it was alright.

"The sun is past the horizon, I can have someone drop you," Jace suggested while sipping on his coffee.

"Yeah, take someone with you," Skylar agreed.

"I appreciate it, but I would like to go by myself in a cab."

"But it's—"

"It's fine." Jace cut her off. "Let her do what she pleases."

Skylar pouted but stayed quiet.

"Alright then. We'll see you back in the packhouse."

I smiled, waving at them as I walked through the corridors of the hospital, grimacing at the smell as I quickened my pace.

The pain in my shoulder had gone a bit and so did the similar case with my head.

The night breeze of the fine day had me wrapping my hand around my arms, rubbing up and down over the woollen jacket. Delta James had very kindly given it to me since it was very cold outside.

I was thankful to the same person because he was the one who booked a cab for me since my phone was broken and wasn't in its right shape to work again.

I let out a shaky exhale through my mouth as I descended down the cement steps outside the hospital but froze when I heard someone call me.
