Chapter 37

Hour by hour Lucas' breathing was slowing down and the pain in his chest from rejection increasing.

All this could be stopped, his suffering could be put to an end if he accepted her rejection, but he didn't. He thought dying in such pain would be better than accepting her mate break decision.

Heaven had made a huge spot in his heart and even if he wanted he could never vacant it because he knew waiting patiently and working in silence for her protection would eventually bring light to her eyes about the truth Sheryl and Ava hid.

He for real thought Ava was nothing like her father. He, like his brother, held the same insane ideology about winning the whole world as if it was as easy as cutting a birthday cake, but to vain, Ava was a smart girl but blinded by the greed of her family.

He knew she and her aunt must've fed Heaven a good amount of bullshit against him for her to take such a strenuous option on a whim.

He sighed, hoping for the best and waiting patiently for the call which was not so far to fetch.

I breathlessly made my way towards Ava's study, reminding myself to close the door behind. I searched on her desk for anything to go against them.

This was my chance, my only chance to fish something out fast. God knows what else they were hiding from me and what was working through their evil brains.

I pulled out a drawer filled with files, looking incessant each one of them was time-consuming and I had to do it fast before she stumbled into the room with her inebriated aunt.

When I got to the other side of the desk chair and opened the drawer to see a journal, I peeked into the book, curious to what she must've written. All I could see was angry scribblings, starving for revenge, venting the frustration of being rejected by Lucas on thin papers were a clear indication. After flipping through more pages, I saw one clear writing, mainly portraying her win in the fight.

It was written today in the morning.

My eyes leisurely scanned through the page, it all contained what she was goofing in the room, but one stanza grabbed my attention, she wrote what actually happened after I fainted at the café.

.... After Heaven was taken away from the packhouse, I and Michael went to the Alpha's packhouse.

Lucas was in tension and it was an easy attempt to lunge on his death since his mind was on his mate's well-being.

I challenged Alpha Lucas for a fight for his position when an opponent challenges an Alpha, he must take part in the given time the opponent wishes.

Michael on the top of the gallery was ready with his bow and arrow, that moron! We could've won this fight if it wasn't for him to get caught by that ass of a Delta—

"Oh, so here you are."

My heart almost stopped and my hand automatically slammed the book shut. I got up from my crouching position and came to face Ava.

A smirk on her drunk face made my senses on alert, my hand touching the pocket to sense the gadget saved in its place.

"What's happening? Why did—" Sheryl soon followed in the room, words died in midway when she spotted me, eyebrows moving up in shock.

"I did feel a presence outside the door, I knew you heard all of it," Ava slurred.

Even Michael walked in too, his shoulders stiffened and we made eye contact. I couldn't say if this was his usual personality or a show to look cool, he barely talked anything.

I moved around the table, anger of betrayal whisked via my blood in my veins when I showed her the journal. "Is it true?"

"Heaven, sweetheart—"

"Is it true?" My voice firm as I gave a sharp look to Sheryl.

"What are you talking about?" Sheryl innocently drew the brows closer.

I huffed impudently at them. "Can we stop beating around the bush already? I'm getting tired of this."

Sheryl tried to open her eyes but I waved her away looking at Ava's curious gaze.

"I know everything. You guys fooled me," I spoke, voice cracking at the memories of rejecting Lucas. "Do you guys realize how many people are crying in pain? Because of you all—"

"We don't have to waste our energy anymore now that you're clear," Ava said unperturbed.

Ava bared her teeth, her sharp incisors flashing white at me along with her eyes shifting gold. Her wolf was showing out, and when they are fully in control of their wolf, it isn't a good idea to mess with them, their primal instincts come out. By looking at her, her urges were pointed at me.

She stepped up towards me and I took one back, my backbone felt the harsh touch of the desk.

Her claws flashed towards me, ready for the strike I pivoted my head to the side only to realize the blow never came.

Sounds of hissing grabbed my attention, my mouth hung open when I saw Michael take the in charge and held her jaw almost painfully, pinning to the wall.

My hand quickly pulled out the black device and it didn't take me a second thought and pressed with more force than necessary.

"Michael, what are you doing!?" Sheryl shrieked, looking as confused as me.

Then the craziest fortunate thing apprised, shaking my bones to the core. Michael shifted in Gamma Mason like Michael was never present the whole time. It must be Alpha Lucas' witch powers.

Ava and Sheryl's blown off faces were worth watching with a popcorn tub, Gamma Mason kept his grip still on Ava and tried to grab the hands when Ava took his distraction a chance and kicked him in the stomach.

Gamma Mason touched his abdomen coughing a bit, Ava's gaze fed on me again, she was seeing all red and the target was beeping on me. When she tried to advance at me again. Gamma Mason wound his arm around her throat and with a slight force, he managed to punch her a good time.

Sheryl regained her lost senses back and she tried to hurl Gamma with her powers. I saw her eyes turn peacock green and I did the only sane thing a person would do in urgent times.

I took the first thing I saw on the table—which was a palm-sized glass stone—and threw it towards Sheryl.

And of course, her heightened senses helped her and her attention was brought to me roaring my short victory. The stone stopped midway, Sheryl green-eyed glare intensive as the rock ensued her anger. It rushed back with the same vigour and walloped me on the shoulder which healed not a month ago from the car accident. My pain screamed at me as I fell back, holding her shoulder I motioned like a crazy person on the ground.

"I should've killed you the moment when your part was done,' she sneered, towering over my withering form, I was helpless and Gamma Mason was too occupied with that bitch he didn't see what was going to happen with me. "I will kill you "

She raised her hand as if preparing whatever demonic spell she thought of.

"No Sheryl, it's time for your death."

The door was kicked open and Alpha Lucas barged in with his elongated fangs and claws, looking devilishly handsome like the last time I saw.

His eye-bagged dull honey orbs connected with mine, his veiny fists clenching in anger when he took in my state.

Sheryl tried to prepare her weapon but Lucas beat her in and with simple air push she went flying hitting the wall.

I gasped with his strength, more men piled in helping the Gamma and with over numbers men Ava lost the insane battle she held.

Due to the age difference between Lucas and Sheryl, Lucas was able to make up a spell kore faster than Sheryl and threw some grey sort of ball towards Sheryl.

I felt feminine hands try to grab my shoulder and I yelped in pain, the person apologized. Skylar helped me on my feet and tried to take me out of the nerve-freezing scene. In my human life, I had never seen this, it all happened so quick. I had never seen a living human or werewolf or whatever turns into the rock in front of me.

And Oh my God.

Was Lucas going easy on her?

No.

He again whispered some strange things and before I was pulled away from the room I saw Sheryl's body crack into pieces. Just like that.

I didn't know why he killed her on the instant, didn't they have some typical type of punishment rules?

But getting a chance to look at me brought joy to my eyes, I cared less about what happened to Sheryl, maybe it was a moment of call Lucas had to take or maybe the case that Sheryl wasn't like a normal human or werewolf but a rarely found witch forced him to take the action.

But even after all this, I smiled to myself thinking that now everything was actually going right.

With Sheryl's death, my pack could live a normal life again. Able to breathe until Ava's death.
