Shocking Realization

"Huh? Where am I?"

Darkness surrounded the confused Wraith. He flicked his wrist, making his menu appear.

"Wait what!? How the hell am I level one again!"

Wraith scrambled to his feet, tripping slightly as he was knocked up in the air.

"Ey, Roy. Watch them holes. If the kid wakes up we'll be dealing with a crybaby."

Wraith glared. The previous fear he held all gone.

"If I'm here..."

He flicked his wrist again, looking at his stats closely.

"I really did get knocked all the way back. This stupid, broken account!"

Wraith could scream his frustrated feelings to the sky, at this moment, only due to the blanket covering the cage he was in.

"Stupid enchantment..."

He reached between the bars, slightly raising the blanket. He scanned it, now that it touched his hand.

'Silent Quilt, Rare

-A special quilt enchanted with the Silence spell.

--Anything this quilt covers has all sound muffled, from the inside out.'

Wraith lifted it higher, letting the sunlight in.

'Gotta be quiet now. That knight should be here soon... and they'll be stronger then these idiots by miles. Othrey was the level fifty back then... and his stats were abysmal when I finally killed him. Damnable slave traders... I never thought I'd get these two years back. Let alone the other four years of hell.'

Wraith stayed quiet, listening to the men bicker and laugh.

'Since I know the intricacies of my account now, as well as the best way to power up, I should... I should be able to keep them safe. They'll never deal with Viscount again. That damn...'

The air grew cold. Wraith's eyes narrowed heavily as he thought about Viscount, a player that hurt him badly in his past.

"Halt. Have you seen..."

Before the voice of the lady could finish, Wraith slammed his legs against the wall of the cage. It trembled, but barely did anything. He hit it again, jumping up this time. The cage shifted.

"Care to explain?"

"Wild Wolf. Annoying bugger. Gonna sell it off."

"Mind if I take a look?"

Wraith grimaced. If she was attacked from behind, even she could end up hurt. He readied himself, launching his shoulder against the cage. It tumbled to the ground, falling on its side.

"Lady Toria! Kill them!"

With those words, the sounds of blade rending flesh passed through his ears.

'Dammit. I forgot how weak I used to be... this is annoying. Thankfully, I repaired this cage before. I know exactly where it's broken.'

Wraith, once again, launched his shoulder against the wall, previously the floor, of the cage. It snapped loudly, causing him to tumble out of it and into the arms of a heavily armored knight. He looked up at her face.

'Level ??, Lady Toria'

Toria stared at Wraith, her foresty eyes confused.

"Do I know you? You spoke my name."

Wraith backed off, his full height barely taller than her.

"My apologies. I'm an adventurer, newly arrived from my world. These guys kidnapped me."

Behind Toria laid four men, their bodies cut down with blood pooling around them. Wraith's eyes went wide.

"Dammit!"

His body went low as he lunged past Toria. Her eyes went wide as Wraith stomped down on the nearest man's neck. He kept stomping, over and over.

His eyes watched the numbers continue to appear.

'She didn't kill them! This might have been bad if I didn't see them!'

He kept stomping until finally... his body vanished in a massive heap of pixels. Toria's face went cold as she watched this weak adventurer stomp on these four men.

Normally, she would stop this kind of violence. It's within her heart that she must uphold the law! But... she could not even raise her voice to stop Wraith from murdering these men.

To elaborate, Wraith is a neutral entity in her eyes. He has neither good nor bad karma with her kingdom. The four men however, have negative karma that caused her to feel suspicious of them. This later changed to her neutralizing them, but not killing. Their karma wasn't bad enough for that. Now, while what Wraith is doing is seen as bad, she can't react because he isn't gaining negative karma from the game. This is only possible if he attacked an NPC with positive karma, or was caught doing illegal things. Stealing, rape, etc etc... but not murder of negative NPCs with greater negative karma.

Wraith finally killed the fourth man, breathing heavily.

'Level Up

Level Up

Level Up

Level Up

Level Up'

Wraith flicked his wrist.

'Status-

Name: Wraith

Race: ---

Class: Adventurer

Level: 13

...'

He sighed softly, looking back at Toria. Her eyes were filled with grief at her inability to act.

"I'm sorry, Lady Toria. It must've been hard to see that, and I know you couldn't do anything... but they were evil. I have no doubt in my mind, the next time you saw them... you would have instantly killed them to the best of your abilities."

'Last time... these bastards drove their NPC karma so far down, doing all kinds of horrid acts. She freed me just after I killed Othrey. It was thanks to her I became I knight, but I was never cut out for it... and I got her hurt.'

"H-How do you know me, adventurer?"

Her plate mail had little to no blood on it, leaving a lustrous silver shimmer to it. Her body seemed to want to leave immediately, making the armor shake. Her eyes seemed to almost tear up.

"You've not killed yet, have you? Toria... all I ask of you, don't trust an adventurer name Viscount. When I grow stronger, you'll see me again. For now, please remember the man you just saved who will never forget you."

Wraith turned around, heading back down the dirt path that the slavers were taking him. Toria just watched as he vanished from sight. Her green hair flowing in the wind.

"He didn't answer my question... I'll force him to answer the next time we meet!"

Stomping her foot, she began to head back to her home, Nender Kingdom.

---

'Dammit. I showed that side of me to her too early! She's so innocent right now... I'm glad. The pain in her heart took forever to soothe. Especially after I quit being a knight. She got so mad, she banned sex for two weeks.'

Wraith laughed to himself. His prior relationship with Toria was heavily amorous. The two spent many nights in each others arms.

Wraith walked for a few dozen minutes, finally flicking his wrist again.

"My Log Out button was darkened for two year after I entered the game. This defective visor also changed me greatly. I hate it, but I'm glad no one else got it. I'll gladly use it this time. My life... it'll be amazing now!"

The Log Out button sat in front of his eyes, glowing softly as his gaze flicked away from it.

"For now, I've gotta fuck this game up the right way! This time, I'll make things go the way they should have originally. My friends, just you wait!"

"Who are you talking to, lad?"

Wraith looked around, his eyes falling on an old man. His eyes seemed permanently closed, and his beard reached his waist.

'Did the game just... give me a head start?'

'Level ??, Roca, God of Shadows'
