CHAPTER 10: Interrogation

After an hour of fumbling, Togon had finally figured out how the big black pack that the assassin carried with her worked. He had worked out that when he pulled at the tiny metal part stuck on the fabric (the zipper), he would be able to open it and reveal all the magical items inside.

"Wow! This is awesome!" Togon exclaimed excitedly. He could not wait to find out how to use all the magical items in the bag. This was the only good thing he got out of almost getting murdered.

Suddenly, there came the sound of running footsteps outside.

"Your Highness! They have caught the assassin!" his royal guard burst in and exclaimed.

Togon jumped to his feet and rushed out, following his guard.

In no time at all, he arrived at the dungeon where the assassin was held.

He received a few strange stares as people noticed that Togon was not wearing his crown. Togon ignored them and ordered, "Tie her to the interrogation chair!"

Gabe was dragged to the chair and bound tightly to it. She struggled against the ropes, but the only thing she got out from it was the rough ropes digging into her skin even more painfully.

Yelling in frustration, Gabe glared at Togon and hissed and spat like an angry cat.

"Now, Assassin, who sent you here to kill me?" Togon questioned.

"I am not here to kill you! I don't even know how I came here!" Gabe yelled, fuming. She was aggrieved at how unfair her situation was. She did not even attempt to kill anyone and did not have the intention to. Furthermore, she was almost killed intentionally by someone else in the car that day. And now here this crazed boy was, accusing her of trying to kill him without any evidence. "You were the one who tried to kill me with the sword in that room. I was only asking some questions!" Gabe was raving.

Togon glared at Gabe and announced in an authoritative tone, "Avoiding the question and lying will not save your skin! You should be aware that all people who murder, attempt murder, or have the intention of killing someone will be punished with death! If you don't talk, you will be subjected to intense torture until we get something out from your mouth. Now tell me, do you want to die a quick, painless death or from a slow, agonizing, torturous procedure?"

"Well said, Crown Prince!" The people praised.

Balthazar, who was also present, had Togon's crown hooked onto his pinkie on one hand. He raised his palm to quiet the people. "Wait. If it was what you said, if you were not trying to kill Crown Prince, then what were you doing in his chambers? You don't even belong in the palace. How did you get in?" He questioned, addressing Gabe.

Gabe knew that even if she told the truth, it sounded impossible and no one would believe her. As she was racking her brains to come up with an excuse, someone announced the entrance of the King.

The King walked up and gestured with his hand, "continue what you were doing."

The interrogation continued, with Togon and Balthazar shooting questions at Gabe, while Gabe just tried to talk her way around and avoid the questions.
