CHAPTER 12: Gabe is Back

Gabe heard the whoosh of the sword cutting through the air, towards her. It was the scariest moment in her life. She felt a searing pain at her neck and was paralyzed with shock. That's it. She's really lost her head.

She saw the whole world spinning as her vision faded.

She was dead. Again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gabe felt a faint breeze blowing through her hair. From somewhere far, there was the sound of traffic.
Her eyelids flew open and she sat up.
The sun was shining high up in the sky. She was sitting on the grass in a forested area and looking further down, she saw a highway, with a few cars occasionally zooming past.
Where was she? This was the scene from her vision when she was in the dungeon and the guard tried to remove the bracelet!
Her fingers flew straight to her neck as she suddenly recalled her head getting chopped off in the dungeon when she was in the strange world. She felt some dried blood there, but it did not hurt.
Was it all a dream?
Gabe was about to search her pocket for her phone so that she could use the GPS to find her way back home. She realized that she was still wearing the palace maid disguise and left her own clothes somewhere in the palace in the other world. And her phone was in her backpack which she left in the crazed boy's room.
So it wasn't a dream?
Gabe staggered to her feet and made her way towards the highway. She might be able to hitch a ride from someone.
Standing on the pavement at the edge of the highway, Gabe waved her arms around wildly when she saw a car. It slowed down and stopped next to her. A middle-aged lady with kind, smiling eyes rolled down the window.
"Are you alright?" She asked, her eyes widening in shock when she saw Gabe soaked in blood.
"I'm okay. I just came from a costume party and got lost on my way home. Can you give me a ride to the nearest bus stop?" Gabe asked, making up a believable story.
"Sure! I'm not in a hurry anyway," the lady smiled and gestured for Gabe to go in the car.
Gabe entered and took a seat on the passenger seat, buckling her seatbelt.
"I'm sorry if I dirty your seat with my fake blood," Gabe apologized, trying not to move around too much.
"It's fine. By the way, aren't you supposed to be in school now?" The lady asked, stepping on the accelerator.
"It's our school's 30th anniversary and we have a day off."
"Oh, I see. How did you get lost? Why are you wandering about in the middle of the highway?"
"It's a long story. I lost my bag and my phone, so I can't contact anyone, and I thought I knew the way home, but ended up hopelessly lost. It was a traumatic experience. Oh, can I borrow your phone to make a call?"
"Sure, go ahead," the lady answered, passing Gabe her phone.
Gabe took the phone. How much time had passed since she was gone? Everyone must be panicking and searching everywhere for her. Who should she call? How about Keith? No. Keith was in the hospital after taking the bullet that was meant for her. Other than his number, she didn't memorize the other bodyguards' numbers. The chauffeur? She had memorized his number. What was that number again? Gabe furrowed her brows in concentration. It finally came to her mind and she quickly punched it into her phone before she forgot.
Gabe heard the dial tone, and a few seconds later, he picked up.
"Umm, can you come pick me up?"
