Silhouette

I walk through the orange hued forest. I had been walking for hours and the sun was beginning to rise. Colby would have noticed me gone as he went to work around this time.

I kick a rock on the ground. I was only 13 but already live on my own. The cold breeze shook leaves and gave my skin goosebumps. Though I didn't feel anything, my body definitely did. I began gathering wood picking up sticks, twigs and leaves, waiting to find a clearing. Eventually I do and I drop everything in the center my body not used to so much exercise.

After a break I stand up again gathering rocks and forming a circle. Putting the wood in the middle of the rocks my hand hovered over it. My eyes flashed a fierce blue and a fire erupted with the wood. I sat near it, absorbing the warmth the fire radiated.

Eventually I had fallen asleep as I was awoken to a twig snapping.

My eyes open and I look up the bright sun lighting up everything. To my right was a silhouette looming over me. I retreated away from the figure my vision clearing.

Once I was away I took a good look at the figure. It was a boy. His hair was brown and curly framing his tanned complex room perfectly. He looked just as worried as I was.

I slowly stand up keeping my eyes on the boy. "What were you doing?" I ask sternly, my voice not failing me to intimidate. "I-Im scared alright lady! How else am I supposed to react to a cold unmoving body in the middle of the woods!" His tone just seemed scared and panicked but his attitude was very amusing.

I couldn't help but let out a giggle. "You don't have to panic anymore. I'm alive and well." I pinch my cheek to show him I'm all flesh. "What's your name?" I ask holding a hand out. "My names Anika." He looks relieved before taking my hand. "I'm Axel." He flashes me a smile and I return it.

I retract my hand and go to plop down next to my bag. I pat the part next to me and relight the fire. He sits down and looks at me. "You can use magic?" I look at him curious. "It depends. Who're you telling."

"Well only your ears. My parents kicked me out when they found out I had magic of my own. That's why I'm here." He looks at the fire warming up his hands.

I nod putting my own hands over the fire. "Almost the same thing happened to me. When king George put his new rule in place, my entire village already knew I was magic. They would've given me to him and killed my family if I hadn't left. My sister is probably panicking wondering where I am right now."

The fire projects and image of my sister. Her long hair that went to her waist that never failed to be combed and neat. Her dresses were nothing expensive but she always managed to look like royalty in them. The color didn't show and she cleaned in the red and orange flames of the fire.

Axel stares at the image. "She's pregnant?" He asks as her side image appears showing the bump in her stomach. I nod. "The child gave me only more reason to leave. They wouldn't be able to see them grow up and the kid would never know what it felt like to exist." The images disappeared, the flames returned to the soft looking shape it had.

"What are we going to do?" He gazes upon the fire his right green eyes reflecting the orange of the flame. "We can go to the next town over. Maybe find work. What else would we do?" I look at him. My knees were to up and I placed my elbows on them. He sighs pouting.

"We do what the wind does. Keep going."
