6 years later
I whacked behind Axels head, a half finished drink in my hands. "As If liar! I killed that one!" I exclaim sitting next to him on the bar. "No you killed the afanc!" He says laughing. "Yes then I killed the griffin!" The both of us started laughing at our stupid behavior and drank our cups.
"All we know is that you two are memorable heroes." The bartender said. I wrapped an arm around Axel shaking him slightly. "Yes we are!" I take out a stash of cash to pay for our drinks. The bartender shakes his head. "It's on the house, for what you've done for us." Me and Axel laugh, happy. "Can you get that on paper for us?" Axel asks and the entire tavern bursts out laughing.
The both of us stumble out of the tavern, drunk. I hold onto Axels shoulder for help. "Let's go home!" I yell at the top of my lungs. A hiccup escapes and I start giggling. "Right this way mam to your humble abode." He says as professionaly as he could bowing. I curtsy to him. "Why thank you kind sir." We start laughing again and go to our cottage.
What we see at our home isn't exactly something you'd like to see. Everything was on fire and in the front was a sign.
"Get the fuck out of our home, sorcerers!" I read the sign, frowning. "I'd always preferred warlock. That would sound better no?" He says and I smile at him. I freeze the fire leaving the black debris in the ground.
"What do we do? Do like the wind and keep moving." We say in sync looking at the burnt down cottage.
"Why is the ground so hard here?" Axel whines as I squat down near our fire, keeping warm. I smirk at him. "Has the prince gotten too used to a bed?" I mock and he makes a face at me. "Shut up Anika. Your just jealous you aren't as handsome as me." He says defiantly and I giggle.
"Yes of course...sire." He throws his pillow at me and I laugh. Eventually he falls silent and I assumed he had fallen asleep.
I stayed near the fire. Though I could conjure fire, my powers were based off of ice. Axel was the fire guy. And as I grew I've gotten colder and colder. Though when it's winter I can go skinny dipping in the ice and not feel a thing. Not that I've tried of course.
There was a rustle and though it caught my attention I blamed the wind. Then another. And another one closer. And it wasn't until the twig snapped that I stood up looking around.
"Who's there?" I ask sternly. I get closer to Axel making sure he didn't get hurt. Something sped to me so fast I almost didn't see it. There was a pain in my neck and I felt weak I tried grabbing for the figure in front of me but the blackness was quicker, engulfing me in nothing.
