Let's Start
Today's world is boring. Technology allows humans to live freely and do as we please with extended life for the rich and no wars for the last 200 years, Life has become incredibly boring for most. Granted space is an option but its a front that is rather dangerous still and requires highly trained people to even qualify to go. Something most don't have, while we may be stronger than our ancestors due to science as well as more intellectual as an average. We tend to be lazy due to this, theories point towards the smarter and more long loved a species the less they want to actually achieve though the younger you are the less visible the symptoms are due to life being new to you.
I am still young being only 18 and just being at the age I'm allowed to earn money through games to make a living. Just in time as well as today is the release of a new game that's been hyped for years call Endless expanse. There is no limit on what you can do in the game it's basically a blank canvas that allows you to endlessly grow through your own efforts and hard work. Though talent will come into play as well and I have an advantage when it comes to that as I have eidetic memory I can learn anything at a ridiculous pace compared to others. Though my eidetic memory is a 1 out of a million ability anymore so I will run into many who have it. But it wouldn't be fun without having competitors it just means I won't have to deal with the setbacks most would.
finally made it to the storefront that was such a long line I'm glad I already purchased my virtual capsule otherwise I'd have to wait even longer. Today is the day they release a new type of nutrition pack for the capsule it's supposed to increase our cognitive abilities and prevent strain from the time difference in-game unlike other VR games this one's time dilation is 10:1 instead of 2:1 so it can put a slight strain on the mind without a break or in my case I can just buy the nutrition pack to negate the effects.
Walking up to the counter I greet the pretty girl around my age behind it. She glances me over before looking disappointed at me. Not that I can blame her my face is covered by my long black shaggy hair and my average clothes don't exactly impress. It's not that I'm ugly quite the opposite actually..... let's just say I hide what I look like for a reason it causes problems and I dislike it. " I'm here to get a month's supply of the new nutrition packs."
"Sure a months supply will be 16,000 credits, we can also set up a delivery option to be sent to your house monthly to save time, and its only 100 credits a month for the service" I agreed to the service and pay for the nutrition with a wave of my hand. NFC chips are such a wonderful thing that makes life so easy. Grabbing my box of purchased goods I start to head home excited for the launch of the Endless Expanse server in a couple of hours.
After a 20 minute walk, I finally reach home. a tall skyscraper stood before me 80 stories high. Its where I've lived since my parents' death when I was 7. heading inside and entering the elevator I pressed the button for the top floor. I never knew how they died...some top-secret experiment in space went wrong and took them both out with it all I got was a large insurance check and some condolences. I have enough money to live a life of luxury without work. Just doesn't fill the void of never hearing your parents laugh in the living room or reading you a bedtime story, a hug when you are crying and I love you every time you walk out the door to start your day. Shaking my head banishing the thoughts from it I step out of the elevator into my penthouse apartment complete with marble floors and high-end furniture and a view over the ocean. A place I bought thinking it would somehow make him feel better. his parents would always take him to the ocean he loved it playing in the water with his mother and building sandcastles with his father. Only to find the view as nothing more than a reminder of what I can't have anymore. Tearing his view from the window and walking over to the cabin in the middle of the living room.
The game cabin was silver and sleek with an angular design stood at and angle to lay back into. Top of the line with a built-in nutrition system and stimulates your body enough to prevent muscle degrade from lack of movement. Opening the bottom access panel at the back I placed the nutrition fluid into the refrigerated compartment and bled the system to get the air out of the lines. I have about an hour before the servers go online but I can use this time to set up my character.
Taking off my shirt and throwing on some shorts to get comfortable I step into the cabin and lower my self back onto the gel liner on the inside for the first time. feeling a slight sting on the back of my neck before it quickly disappeared indicating that the nutrition system was properly connected. Closing my eyes I will the system to start up with a mental command and log into the character creation system. Feeling a rush before I feel soft grass below my feet, I open my eyes to find myself in a large field the extends beyond the horizon.
looking around I notice a transparent panel to my right, looking it over I notice I can set up my parameters for my character. Looking over what I can do I see that it allows me to add point onto my basic parameters such as strength vitality dexterity and agility. I went to add points into somethings before a hand grabbed my wrist. "I wouldn't do that if I were you."
