Survival

Looking around, Bai Shuixian was confused. Why was she in a forest? Also, who was that person that called her name?

Though she was confused, she did not miss the fatigue in her body and the tiredness that made her weak to move. She could barely lift a finger or her body. At the same time, she thought, 'Who in the world sleeps in this position?'

Indeed, waking up, her body was not only stiff from the physical workout that Xuan Yueji had done, but also due to the uncomfortable position that he slept in. She did not know who it was that slept like this, but her greatest wish at the moment was to adjust her body into a comfortable posture.

After adjusting herself, she felt a little relief from her sore back and sighed. Her body felt like it had been smashed by a hundred hammers and thrown into a wall of cobblestone. Once again, she seriously thought, 'What in the world happened to my body?'

Maybe it was because of the past life, but she was much more calm and had more acceptance to being in an isolated place. Though she did not know where this location was at, she could feel that she was safe for now. However, she also thought, 'Why did she think this place was safe?'

Despite her body being so exhausted it could barely move, her brain was hyperactive. She had no idea what to do to calm her energetic mind. Trying to think of ways to calm her thoughts, she meditated in her sleeping form whilst taking deep breaths.

It was unknown how long she was awake before she fell asleep after meditating, but it was known that once she woke up, the person in her body was no longer Bai Shuixian.

Waking up, Xuan Yueji thought, 'It seems that little girl really did take over when he was asleep.'

There was no evidence of her moving around the area, but he still knew. Of course, it was because of habit. He had a habit of sleeping in whatever position he found comfortable and never moving only until he woke up.

Since he saw that his body was in a different stance, he knew that she had taken over for a short while. Probably he had tired the body out too much so she could not move much despite having control. Though he pitied her, he still decided that it was time to move to the second layer of the forest.

Standing up and stretching his body, he stared at the sky in hopes of seeing a peeking sunlight through the tree leaves. Unfortunately, he saw nothing but the same darkness as before, so he could only try to remember which way he had come from. Thankfully, he was a smart man so he had left a few symbols on the trees to remember which ways were which.

Before walking to the trees to see the routes, he destroyed the fire camp and dug a burial site for the weeds that he harvested to eat the previous night. Though humans were rare in this forest, he still took precautions. 'You can never be too careful, only too careless.'

Once he finished, he looked at the pieces of sticks that seemed to be randomly spread around. As a smart man, he knew how to make something look random and natural, but in fact, very organized. His sticks were pointing to him north, east, south, and west.

Only, nobody was going to be able to read or understand it because they had been placed so randomly. With pride, he walked towards the path that was heading north. Since he came to the forest through the north entrance, he had to continue walking north if he wanted to reach the inner layers.

He could not get confused or else he would be spending months in the forest trying to determine which way was north and which way was south. Even though he knew the forest very well, he was never good at remembering paths or locations and needed a map at his hand. It was too bad that the map he drew in her last life was not with him.

Sighing at the work hard that he had to go through, he walked north at a fast pace. He wanted to get out from this outer layer that was full of fog and coldness. Not to mention, there was little food here unless you had a person well versatile with plants, like his Chi Chi.

Thinking about Chi Chi, he laughed. Chi Chi was the only happy person out of all the alternates that he could mess around with. If he joked about the others, they would surely attack him and make him regret it so, Chi Chi was the only target he could bully.

Already dreaming about the vast amount of food in the inner layers, he speeded up his pace without looking around the forest. While walking, he thought, 'Ah, how nice it would be if this body was an adult. It would take less time to travel to the center of the forest.'

Despite complaining about the body since walking, he still made it to the second layer of the forest in who knows how long.

Seeing the bit of sunlight that managed to escape from the crowded leaves, he became happy. Though the amount was tiny and there was still a deep coldness in the forest, there was no longer the humidity that drowned one's clothes in water. With this bit of happiness, he began to run since the sun was still up.

All he thought was, 'I can take a break when the sun goes down.'

Honestly, he could take a break there, but when he thought about how much closer the inner layer was and how much more livelier it was there, he did not want to rest. Though on one side it was for Bai Shuixian, the majority was because he hated eating only weeds. Bitter weeds at that.
