Chapter 44

I glanced over at David before I looked back at the road as I drove. It had been a while since he said anything. The airport was an hour's drive away and we had been driving for about forty-five minutes. I knew something was wrong; he hadn't been quiet since I picked him up from the restaurant a couple of days ago. He had slept over at our house and last night he asked if someone would give him a drive to the airport because he did not want to take an taxi. Sudden. He hadn't mentioned that he was leaving at all until that. I wanted to ask him what was wrong but we weren't that close, it would be weird. This was weird too though...

"What's wrong, Dave?" I finally spoke.

He looked at me and gave a smile.

"Nothing. I'm cool."

"You're leaving kind of suddenly, aren't you? I thought you would stay until classes start again." His classes would begin the same week as ours would, so he had a week left before he needed to be back at school.
