Nelly climbed out of the window into the night and on the roof, she could see a figure sitting down. She removed her shoes and threw it back into his room, then padded across the tiles to get to him.

When he heard her, Max lifted his head and grinned. He held out his hand to her and she took it, guiding her to sit next to him. They were so far high up in the roof and she didn't dare try to look down.

"How did I know I would find you up here?" she asked as she nudged him with her shoulder.

"Hey," he greeted with a lopsided grin. At least, he was able to crack a smile. She had been so worried about him earlier that she couldn't resist not coming to his house to see if he was alright. Last time Maria had been here, it had been so bad she dared not to think about it. Nelly thought she would find him in the same state as he had been before.
