Sour, black thingy!

Aaron's pov

It's another new day. I wake up to the blinding sunlight peeking through the huge glass windows of my room. Rolling over the bed, I cover my face with the duvet trying to block out the light and the sound of a blaring alarm.

After a few minutes of peaceful silence, I hear the door to my room burst open with a loud 'thud', startling me.

"Ronnie! Wake up, otherwise, you'll be late to the university." I hear ma's chirpy voice just before the duvet is yanked out.

Groaning, I sit up on the bed. I'm greeted by the sight of my beautiful mother who is clad in her crisp black office suit holding my morning coffee in one hand and the other resting on her hip.

"What happened?" I ask taking the coffee from her hand and sipping on it without removing my eyes off her.

"For God's sake! You're 21 Aaron. At least brush your teeth before drinking that sour, black thingy." She makes a disgruntling sound clearly showing the disgust she feels towards my innocent coffee. She is capable of easily picking up a debate with any coffee lover.

"Ma, half of the world's population survives on coffee." I try reasoning out which turns out to be my worst mistake as always. Next second, she starts ranting about how people during her teenage years stayed awake without needing that black drink.

It's not like I don't love and respect my mother, but when she gets riled up on the coffee topic it's impossible to stop her.

Rubbing my face with my palm, I get an idea of how to stop her rant.

"Ma! It's 9 already. Dad would be waiting for you." I say faking horror which gets me an even funnier reaction from my mom.

"Oh my God! Rob is going to kill me. we have a meeting fixed with Alex today." She gasps and makes a beeline towards the door.

"Wait! Why do you have a meeting with Uncle Alex?" I ask but she is out of the door before I can even finish my question.

Sighing, I get out of the bed and start getting ready for the day ahead with the only question in my mind. What would be the problem Daisy was talking about, yesterday?

Uncle Alex is Daisy's father and our families closest friend. We literally grew up together since we were five years old.

**************

It's lunch already and I just learned that Daisy didn't show up today which has me worried. She never takes a leave, atleast not without informing me and that has me concerned. Since childhood, we've been the thickest of friends. Everyone around us rooted for us to become a couple in the future and honestly, I don't know whether that can ever happen.

I decide to text her to know the reason for her absence before joining our little group in the cafeteria.

"Hey, guys!" I greet them, plopping down on my usual seat on the table which is exclusively reserved for us.

Luke is present on the table along with a few other guys who leave after greeting me back.

Luke is like the glue to our little group, who keeps us all together. Jake, Daisy, Luke, Lizz and me, we are called the Untouchables since we never allow any stranger into our group. It has always been us five after another member, Alice lost her life.

"Where are the others?" I ask confused by everyone's absence today.

"Lizz's class just started and Jake's class was cancelled due that Murphy guy." He replies non chalantly, shrugging his shoulders.

"We're alone today." I sigh dejectedly.

"Yeah!" He answers before returning his attention back to his phone.

Luke has a thin face, his bony structure is symmetrical and prominent. His hard set jawline, raised cheekbones and pointed nose makes him even more attractive for the female population. His deep-set grey eyes are something that hold many secrets. They are a reminder of burnt ashes and smoke just like his heart.

His hair is like the colour of morning sunlight. He is a playboy by nature, our classical bad boy who goes around playing with girls and breaking them just like the way he was broken. Deep within, he yearns for love, for someone to hold him and mend his broken heart.

After a few minutes of silence, I notice that his eyes are fixed on someone or somewhere behind me as he speaks without removing his eyes. "Bethany is making her way towards us." He says which catches my attention, I turn back and spot her giving me a seductive smile.

I curse under my breath and make my way out, with books in my hands. I stop once I am sure she won't find me.

Bethany is the clingiest person I ever came across in my entire life. Once during a party, my crazy drunk self committed a mistake of sleeping with her and since then, she's been behind me claiming that she loves me and that bullshit.

I don't know whether I have a chance with Daisy or not, but one thing is for sure, I can never love anyone as much as I love her.

But the only question lingering in my mind is, what is the problem she was talking about and what is the reason for her absence today?

To find answers, I have to wait.....
