24. Transition

The whole building buzzed as Merrylia's men thoroughly searched the whole place. Merrylia's face was as hard as ever and anyone who made the mistake to stop working and throw a glance at her got pierced by her hotter than hell gaze. Fred's titanic form darted stealthily among the columns, touching and searching the furniture sets expertly.

I stood steadily, deep in thought. Jake had been my friend even before my mother died, yet trusting him blindly is not a risk I'm willing to take, especially because his intentions are unclear for me.

I could conjure up a wild guess on why they were spying on me but if Merrylia was included, I will be at loss. Jake or his family had no reason to spy on her, Merrylia paid handsomely for all that was delivered and they were not, in any way, a business rival. Despite that, small broken surveillance camera started to pile on Merrylia's desk and she grew more grim every time one of his men went over to her desk.
