The night came and we waited inside a van for Roslyn. She said there'd be at least 4 pairs of same-sex mates.
"Desert Jungle Pride is merciless," Brandon commented. He was our designated driver today while Bryce sat on the passenger seat. “They still refused to join the GISC just because the Council would want them to change their messed up system.”
"Wait, wouldn't their escape be a problem for us?" I asked. “Roslyn is a queen and if she escapes, wouldn’t the pride hunt her?”
"Remember their rule?" Stephen asked and I nodded in understanding. Once they pass through this white brick path, they're free from their pride.
Aaron sat on the window seat while I squished in the middle. They were arguing on who can sit beside and I ended up in their lap, sitting on both of their legs.
Margaret, Gaither, and Erwin sat on the far back while Avery, Charlie, and Orson were in the other van with Lawrence and Brent. We needed to have as many wolves as combatants in case the cats decided to attack us.
"It's almost time," Aaron said. "Roslyn said to wait until 2 AM. If 3 AM sets, we retreat and come back the next day."
"For how many days?" Margaret asked.
"Three days," Stephen replied. For some reason, Aaron glared at him. "If the third day and they still failed, let's abort this mission."
"What?" I objected. "We're just going to give up on them?"
"You know what the kings are," Aaron said and rubbed his temples. "This is why it was a bad idea to tell you."
I scoffed, "And why is that?"
"Because we'd have no choice but to charge–"
Before Stephen could finish, a loud explosion burst nearby. We all got out and saw that it was from the mansion. A large fire broke out, covering the entire land of their base.
"Is that Roslyn's idea of escape?" Stephen asked and we looked at Aaron.
He shook his head and had a worried face on. "She's not capable of doing that."
A twirl of cloud twisted on top of the mansion and green and purple lightning struck down the packhouse. A hooded figure floated above and charged herself with the lightning and struck it down the mansion. She left the area right after her attack, the cloud clearing up as she did.
"Olivia," I whispered.
"Olivia is attacking the Desert Jungle Pride!" Aaron yelled through his phone that was calling the other alphas. "Nearby alphas, send reinforcements now!"
"Everyone, shift. Let's help them," Stephen ordered but I grabbed his arm.
"We can't get inside. There's a secret path wasn't there?" I told him. "I sensed magical runes there. If we try to get in through the forest, it'll only get us lost."
"I'll deactivate the forcefield," Bryce said. "I am an Arch Warlock after all. If it's not too complicated, I can break it in no time."
We all nodded before shifting. I had to take time with mine since I don't want to disrupt my womb that has our pups inside. My usual 3-second shift turned to thirty.
'Let's go!' my mates ordered in unison.
We all rushed down the white brick path and ran as fast as we could. The 30-minute drive of the jeep turned into 5 with the use of a boost from Bryce who was floating.
"Let me break this," Bryce said when we got to the familiar tree that arched sideways. He landed in front of the hidden path and chanted a spell under his breath. "F*ck! This spell is ancient. It will take time for me to break it."
"Just do your best," Stephen said and Bryce nodded.
His hands were filled with a purplish-white light and he slightly threw his head back. Glowing purple-colored rune letters started flowing out from his hand and twirled up into his arm. The runes shot towards the bushes and hit a dark yellow glass-like forcefield.
He kept on chanting until the forcefield started to crack. His chants became faster and his voice was getting louder. The runes started to flow faster and shot towards the forcefield.
"Stop!" a voice came from the inside. The voice was raspy and was like they were panting.
It was Roslyn.
"If you break the forcefield, we're going to be stuck inside the forest!"
Bryce instantly stopped his chants, the light that was covering him dying down. "I'm sorry."
A roar from the inside broke through. The trees and the bushes drifted apart, showing the path and Roslyn inside.
She was being carried by a larger man that looked as equally weak as her. Several more people followed that we instantly helped.
"The Witxh came for us," Roslyn said. "She knew Klyde came today and told us to lure you over. When the kings declined, she destroyed everything. I was freeing the prisoners, so I escaped the attack."
"What about the other kings?" Aaron asked.
Roslyn shook her head, "All dead."
We placed everyone inside the vans after handing them food and water. They were all awfully treated. They would only be fed twice a week and they are forced to be tied on the courtyard without any shade or without any covering when it's raining.
One of the prisoners– or more like falsely imprisoned werecat requested Bryce to remove their stain and smell. They said they'd be too embarrassed to stain the van even when we said it was okay.
"Thank you," Roslyn said. "I got injured after hurrying inside their office to obtain their powers. After stealing them, I gave them to the others, so we don't lose the kings' powers."
She laid down on the seat in front of us, focusing her energy on the large wound in her stomach.
"So, one of each pair are current kings?" I asked and she nodded.
"Please let me lie down," Roslyn asked and I smiled at her.
I held her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, "You're safe now."
"Thank you, Luna."
