Chapter 10: Distraction

Alex' POV

“I work at a café just two blocks from here. I have some clothes in my locker there.” I proposed.

“Okay.” She faced me, with her arms on her chest. I let her clutch her bag to cover her front while I put my arms around her, resting my hands on her shoulder by the left and holding her right arm guiding her towards the direction of the café. I let her walk first so I could partly cover her from the back.

Once we were inside, I proceeded at the counter to find Selena without wasting any time. I cut in line and along the looks of annoyed costumers in line waiting for their turn for a hot beverage in the cold downpour. I couldn’t care less to what they think other than the cold and wet woman I’m with.

“Hey, I need the key to the backroom” I said without pretense.

Sel gave me a confused look then when she saw my companion her expression changed from confusion to amusement giving me the “really” look with one brow raised. A smile starts creeping her face.

I didn’t utter another word and just glared at her. She seems to get the correct idea and ruffled in the drawers.

“Okay! Okay! Here.” She relented handing out the keys to me.

I grabbed Sunny’s free hand and pulled her towards the backroom. Closing the door behind us I opened my locker and pulled out a black shirt, a denim shorts and a yellow hoodie while she put down her bag on the wooden bench.

‘”Here.” I handed her the hoodie. “We could change here rather than go out to the CR.”

And run the risk of getting some bastard ogle you. No, I don't think so. I added internally.

I suddenly caught myself being a bit overprotective over this woman.

She took the hoodie while I proceeded to zip down my jacket and fully remove it thus exposing my taut stomach and sports bra. I was too preoccupied to notice that she was staring the whole time. I grabbed the shirt when I realized what she just did. Caught red-handed, I decided to tease her.

“Like what you see? Well, I’m going to change my pants next so…” I left the sentence hanging while grinning at her obviously reddening face.

She huffed and turned right away. She might have thought I did the same as she was already fumbling with her blouse to take it off but I did not. I removed my pants and grabbed the shorts when the sight of her back presented itself to me. She has a lithe body that looks soft and smooth to touch. Tempted yet I restrained myself and hooked the button of the shorts in place. When I looked up she was already in my oversized yellow hoodie facing me.

“You didn’t turn aroud while I was changing, did you?” She squinted her eyes at me.

“Of course I did.” I said with a straight face, hardly suppressing my smile though.

“Come on. You look cute in that by the way.” I let her now as we walk out of the room.

“Compliments won’t get you anywhere, Alex. I still think you peeked.” The blonde accused yet she doesn’t sound even a little bit offended.

“How about a cup of hot chocolate over brownies? Will that let me off the hook?” I smiled and winked.

“May-be.” She singsongs. Sunny held my hand to pull me on a table.

We chatted for hours over a cup of hot chocolate for her and coffee for me as we nibbled our brownies. We mostly talked about our families. Her, it’s about her parents and older sister who is studying to be a fashion designer in Europe. I don’t have much to tell about my family aside from my younger sister and my corgis and pugs.

The rain eventually stopped and we were about to leave the café as we stand when all of a sudden I stumbled. My leg muscles are not coordinating with me.

“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” I heard the older girl’s concerned voice who is automatically holding my arms to support me.

“Probably muscle cramps. My right leg hurts. I shouldn’t have jog especially that I didn’t check the weather bulletin.” I let out a sigh as I try walking forward while Sunny hold on to me.

“I’ll come with you. Until you’re back at you’re place. It’s my fault anyway. Let’s Uber.” She started fumbling on her phone.

“There now, let’s wait outside. It’ll be here by 5 minutes.”

I chuckled. “No, it’s not your fault that I was jogging at the park.”

“Yeah but it was on me that you got to stay there. I got your attention after all.” She smiled. “And that you had to help me with my clothes.” She added.

‘Of course, what will be left of my dignity if I left a damsel in distress?” I flashed my thousand-watt smile, attempting to humor/flirt Sunny. She threw her head back in laughter. “But really, I’m a good friend I couldn’t just leave you like that.

After saying those words, it kind of hit me straight on the gut. I remember Bree. What she said that night returns to me. Am I really a good friend? How am I supposed to fix us?

“The car’s here. Let’s go.” The blonde-haired beauty exclaimed pulling me out of my trance and literally pulling me.

Finally, we arrived at my apartment so I invited her in.

“You live alone?” She asked while looking around.

“Yep.” I answered. She must have felt guilty to leave me alone so soon so she offered to massage my calves before going. I took up her offer but she abruptly stopped midway saying she remember she had to do something at home so she had to go. She gave me her number and told me to call if ever I need help or something.

The day have been so eventful that I was able to fell asleep easily after hitting the bed when Sunny left.

I realized that Mitchelle Kim is not just a beautiful face. What is inside is also reflected on the outside. She is beautiful, inside out.

I have been able to suppress my negative thoughts thanks to her. What would I do without you my Sun?
