Chapter 38: Date 1.2

Third Person POV

“Why did you agree to this? You didn’t have to come if you really don’t want to?” Breana asks.

They are walking for a while now. It was dark, only the light coming from a few streetlights and houses giving them illuminating their paths.

Alex hummed, pondering what her answer would be.

“Did you feel empathy or pity towards me, because as you say, we both love people who don’t feel the same towards us? Be honest, Alex.” She suggested. It was true after all; they keep pining for people they can’t seem to have.

“No. I owe it to you. Closure. If this is what it’s going to give you that then I will. Also, as you have said, I needed this to take my mind off of some things and it did. Thank you for that. Did you enjoy today?” Alex tilted her head to the side to look at Breana.

“Of course, I enjoyed every moment. So, this is what it feels like.” Breana smiled. “This will be the last though…

…Do you want to know who confessed to me?” She continued after.

“Hmm…okay. So that I can beat the shit out of them if I’d know they’re just fooling around with you or even if they try to hurt you. Who is it?”

Bree laughed at her. She always finds Alex’ antics funny but she knows she is being truthful and protective of her as a dear friend.

“Like you would. I guess you would cower at the sight of her alone if it comes to that. It’s Ari.” She looked over to her friend to catch her reaction.

“The cheerleader?” Alex asked bewildered.

“Yup, the one and only.” Bree confirmed.

“You mean, she’s like…”

“Yes, she is.”

“Do you like her?”

Breana stopped in her tracks. “I like her for sure but…you know, if you didn’t come back, I would have like her back faster but I guess if you didn’t come back I wouldn’t even have had the chance to know her.”

Alex nods. “So you haven’t feel that much yet for her” She stopped walking as well.

“Because of me.”

“Yes, not as much as I feel or felt about you.” Bree agrees as she continues walking. The taller woman caught up after, matching their pace as she takes smaller steps.

“Perhaps not yet but tomorrow might change things. What do you plan on doing about that?”

“Let things play out as it should. I like her but I don’t want to lead her on, not until I’m over with you, you li’l shit.” I stick my tongue out, teasing her like a kid.

“Now that’s the spirit. Bree, you should now, you deserve happiness and I’m glad people starts seeing you the way you really are and how amazing you are.” She looked at her friend lovingly.

“Come to school tomorrow? Talk to Sunny.” Breana said as they stopped walking now. Finally, they reached the front of her house.

“I will. Let’s go together?”

“Sure.”

The moon glowed brightly in the star –speckled night sky now. They stared at each other, waiting for the last word to be said. Bree leaned closer. She tiptoed and gave a quick peck on the edge of Alex’ lips.

Before the taller woman could react Bree runs home, not after saying a quick ‘good night’ to her date.

There were two last things Bree learned after that night. First, the feeling of kissing Alex. It lingers on her lips despite how hastily it happened. Second and last, NO. Knowing when things will end doesn’t prepare you for when it actually comes, but you have to. Bree knows she have to, and she does.

A hooded figure looms in the dark. The person can't be seen but sees everything that happened that day. Waiting for the next step.
