Chapter 42: Support

Breana’s POV

If only…

I ran to the bathroom to escape everyone’s’ prying eyes. I look at myself in the mirror. It was the same as before, during the time Alex came back. I’m still the same old pathetic me. I started to cry.

“Ohh…it’s that hot topic girl.” A voice from behind said. I just noticed a group of three girls that has entered. They’re probably seniors as well and in some of my classes since they know that it’s me in the pictures. I continued wiping my face.

“Trouble in paradise?” One of them asked as the group snickers.

“So, who is better, Alex or Maria?” They pressed on.

“Girl, you already know who. We literally saw her and Ari fighting. I guess our cheerleader is dumb for being two-timed.” They were all ridiculously laughing. I feel furious at what they said.

“Shut the hell up!” Even I was shocked that I said it but they were being disrespectful to both of my most treasured people and they didn’t deserve it. Ari did not deserve this.

“What did you say?” The tallest of them asks. It was obvious she is offended to be talked to like that.

“I told you to shut the hell up. What’s so funny? Huh? The one who si dumb here is your group. Not Alex nor Ari. You.” I tapped my finger on her chest. I am seething.

Who are they to talk shit about them?

I wasn’t being particularly brave. I guess I was being reckless and if I look like I’m asking for a fight, I’m pretty sure I am.

The girl slapped my hand away and strongly pushed me. My back hit the wall harshly.

“You look here bitch. You don’t really look amazing as you think you are. You’re not even pretty and talented enough to be on the lead of your band.” She held my shirt by the collar as she kept me pressed up against the wall. Her two friends hovered over me as well.

I laughed. How ironic, I thought. “We’re the same. Don’t act like you’re any better.” She is just a big dumbass with two minions who have lesser brains and even lesser guts.

All of them sneered at me then she slapped me hard. “I’m nothing like you.” She angrily spat out. Her grip on me tightened.

My face stings. My eardrum hurts like hell. I’m almost choking but I decided to ignore every pain.

“Yes, you are. You referred to Ari as ‘our cheerleader’. I bet you are not the lead either. You cannot be like her. Maria is obviously waaay better than you. You are a loser. All of you.” I chuckled at them.

A slap hit my other cheek. Then another. And another. I saw my things being scattered on the floor. My hair being pulled. Then they pushed me hard on the floor. I landed on my knees and elbows in the cold and hard tiled-floor. It hurts but I didn’t bother fighting back.

Maybe I deserve this.

THIRD PERSON POV

Jea decided to wait for Alex out in their room. When the black-haired beauty was out of the door, she pulled her away.

“Where are we going?” Alex is startled but she lets Jea pull her anyway. The girl just proceeds to drag her.

“Heyyy…what’s wrong?” She asked again.

When the smaller one still failed to answer, Alex pulled back. She is confused with the other’s action. “Jea-”

“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?” Jea shouts at her. She throws her arms at the sides. Lines form on her forehead as her nose flares.

Fortunately, they were already far from the building. Jea led her towards the study area under the trees. She wants to talk to Alex privately, away from possible eavesdroppers to further damage the reputation of her fiancée. Not that it matters if she weren’t her fiancée. She would still care for Alex.

“What are you saying?” Alex is puzzled. Her face wrinkles in confusion as she was surprised at Jea’s outburst. It was so unlikely of her, she had thought.

“You really have no idea?” Jea sounded mad. She gave Alex a look of disbelief.

The other shrugs and slowly turns her head side to side, telling the truth.

Jea sighs, she knows when Alex is lying and she definitely is not at this moment. She pulled her phone out of her pocket to show something to Alex. “Care to explain?”

Alex grabbed the phone out of the girl’s hand to take a closer look. She scrolled through the page, reading the article carefully. Her eyes are focused on the pictures, taking in everything that was posted on the site about what had transpired.

“Who took the pictures?” Alex doesn’t have a single clue who would do this and why.

“Apparently they wouldn’t post it on the page, would they?” Jea answered. “Now why the hell are you kissing Bree when the day before that, you were just so heart-stricken for Mitchelle slapping you?”

The smaller lady has her arms crossed on her chest. She looks intensely at Alex, not taking any bullshit.

“It’s not how it looks, okay?” she sighs. “She kissed me. Bree did, but I did not kiss back, just like the way I ki-kissed Sunny. That day, she wanted to help me keep my thoughts off of what happened.” Alex explained.

“Go on.” Jea urged her.

“She went to…well, we had a date as she said. We just went to have fun. She told me it was for the first and last time. She kissed me but she knows I-uh-I’m…I, uhh…”

“What?!” Jea snapped. Her impatience growing.

“She knows I’m in love with Sunny and she accepts that. She just wanted to let go. Then she advised me to talk to Sunny. That’s all. Geez, you really made me say the ‘L’ word. You know it’s embarrassing for me.” Alex finished.

Jea nods. The fact that Breana was also into Alex is not surprising but not impossible. She understood the situation now but it will be difficult to face the consequences of what just happened to Alex and Breana and the way it was publicized.

“God, Alex, what’s wrong with your luck? What’s your plan now?”” Jea breathes out.

“Can you took it down? The post?” Alex scratched her head as she looks pleadingly at the girl.

“We both know the answer to that. All you had to do is ask.” The petite woman answers her nonchalantly.

Alex stepped closer. With her two hands, she squished Jea’s plump cheeks and smiled, her full set of pearly white teeth showing. “Then please do.”

Jea stared at her with squished cheeks. “Lewth mwe gwo.” She asked the other.

Alex is enjoying this cute sight of Jea but eventually she let go of her cheeks. “I have to go. I’ll give Bree a heads up. We didn’t know, until now.” She started to walk away. Her concern for her unknowing friend growing by each minute that passes. She knows just how much Bree could be affected by this and that of her other friend, namely Ari. Her problem with the band leader could wait.

Jea hummed. She watched Alex slowly go. “GOOD LUCK!” She shouted at Alex’ disappearing figure.

Alex turned and gave her a knowing look. “THANK YOU JEA!” She shouted back.

Alex was never the type to lean on others especially on her personal problems but lately she’s found herself tangled in an intricate weave of relationships, not that it was bad. She just gets overwhelmed sometimes. She finds it hard to gain control of things compared when she was studying business management. She is just glad Jea is there for her.
