Chapter 50: Questions

THIRD PERSON POV

Later on that day, they were exhausted that they decided to eat before continuing the rest of their date.

“By the way, I haven’t seen much of Alex lately.” Ari notes as she takes a bite-sized meat that Breana’s been grilling.

“Oh, I actually asked her why she’s been cutting her classes so much. She’s being cryptic and always tells me she has family things to do. She also quit at the café. I wonder why.”

“Oh.” Ari’s voice drops. She hates to break the news to Bree but the woman should know it.

“It’s because of Selena, she’s the one behind your pictures getting leaked.”

Breana stops eating, she looks questioningly at Maria.

“Don’t worry. Alex confronted her already.” She tries to reassure the girl.

Not that Breana is worried, she’s more curious how the two found out. She doesn’t want to think about it anymore.

People started to treat her differently at school because of it some stood up for her but there was more on the bad side. Though, whenever Maria is around no one have the guts to utter a demeaning word.

“She has been sending me weird messages.” Ari spoke again.

Lines form on Bree’s forehead. “Alex? How so?”

Ari nods. “She’s thanking me for looking out for you and that she wants me to continue doing so. Just repetitive messages with those same meanings. Weird, I know.”

Breana pondered what could have those messages and Alex’ weird actions mean. She can’t understand Alex when she’s hiding things from her.

Maria saw the confusion etched in her face. “Call her.” She suggested.

“Huh?”

“Call her. Just ask what she’s doing at the moment.” Ari insisted.

Breana slowly took out her phone and dialed Alex’ number. She picked up on the third ring.

“Hello? Bree? Why are you calling?”

“Hello, Alex. I was just checking up on you. I’m with Ari right now and we’re thinking you might want to join us.” Breana looks at Maria as the other nods at her.

She could her rustling and voices on the other side of the phone. Alex is definitely outside and she’s with some people.

“Oh! Sorry, I can’t right now. Some other time maybe. Say hello to Ari for me.”

Breana mouths a “She said hello to you.” to her companion who continues to chew on their food while listening to the one-sided phone conversation. “Yeah, sure. Next time.” Breana said in acquiescence.

“Alex, your turn. They need you to try the suit for the final fitting.” A voice said on the other line. It can be heard though faintly.

“Yeah, I’ll be there.” Alex answers to whoever was calling her.

“Who’s that?” The voice asked. This time Breana recognized the voice. Alex then again answers the other person that it was Breana.

Then to Breana she said, “Hey, Bree I gotta go. I’ll catch up with you soon. Bye and have fun with Ari.”

“Yep. Take care.” Bree lastly said as the line went dead.

“So? What’s she up to?” Ari stops eating.

“I don’t know.” Breana just got more confused as to why Alex would be with Jea. “Let’s just eat.” Breana dismissed.

Maria definitely doesn’t want to argue with that. If Breana is exasperated, it means she can’t decipher what Alex is up to either. They decided to ignore it for the meantime as they continued to enjoy their meal. They end up deciding to see Alex tomorrow.

MITCHELLE/SUNNY’S POV

Ha…What a lazy Saturday…

I picked up my phone and listlessly scroll through my apps. There’s not much to see anywhere.

Social media just kinda drains me anyway.

I went to check my inbox.

Nothing.

That’s when I saw my spam folder. There were messages. . . from Alex. I remember blocking her after that night. I saw numerous message with previews of apologies and requests.

There was a different one, it was the latest she sent. I am nervous to say the least as my finger hovers over that message.

I sit up straight before I clicked on the message.

-Sunny. I’m sorry. I couldn’t gather enough courage to tell you this in person. I guess you’re not reading my messages anyway so I’ll just tell this to you like this. If by some far way time you’ll see this, I hope you’re not mad at me anymore. I maybe far away from you as well.

Mitchelle Kim, I like you. Not the ‘like’ you’d feel for a friend but the kind of ‘like’ that I want you to be my girl. The kind of like where I want to hold hands with you wherever we go. The kind of like where I want to be always by your side. The kind of like where I want to shower you with hugs and kisses. The kind of like where I want to always make you smile and be the reason that those smiles stays in your lips. I couldn’t give you the sun, moon and stars but I could give you myself. You are already the sun, my sun. I’ll be your moon and stars.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at the last part, that is so her. So cringey. I kept rereading the message. Every time I read it, the chuckle turns into tears.

I wonder. Why am I crying?
