“What are you doing here?” It was the first thing that flew out of my mouth the moment I saw her. 


Bewilderment. That was my initial reaction, but soon enough it wouldn’t be the only feeling she’ll leave me when she came unannounced. 


“Is that how you greet your mother?” The disdain in her question was evident as her face contorted into a scowl. 


I scoffed at her question. My mood becomes grimmer. Here she is. The person I used to look up to, the person who is supposed to love me unconditionally, and the person who should have been on my side is the person who is anything but. 


“Don’t roll your eyes at me, young lady. Sit.” 


She is as demanding as before. The tone in her voice expects nothing less. She didn’t have to shout, the weight in her every word carry such impact that no one dares to oppose. Except me, but this time, I am too exhausted to even create an argument of sitting in my own apartment.
