Forever is a Long Time

 “Put your hands above your head and spread your legs out.” 


 Jayden and Alto were escorted into two different Outercrafts and taken to ULTRASONIC. Alto knew that Jayden had trusted him with his life. He knew that Jayden had made it clear to himself that if he ever left the border, he could never go back. Yet here he was, invisible restraints terrorizing his body. 


 On the Outercraft, Alto began to think. What would his life be if he had never gone to the east? He wouldn’t have started fighting for the people. He wouldn’t have started fighting for himself. Alto never thought of his work there as “law.” In his eyes, there was no law anymore. ULTRASONIC already saw themselves as above the law and the Overhead was in charge of most of the country. 


 Alto just wanted to help people settle their arguments, make the world more peaceful. But he knew that wasn’t possible. Because people didn’t know what he knew.
