(Chapter 3) Day 17 - Clear signs of military involvement

I had decided to make my way south after waking up and was at once horrified and unsurprised at what I found.

Nothing but more death and chaos, entire cities near the coastline had been claimed by the ocean waves and the treacherous ground opening up beneath them. Some traces remained, foundations, walls, outlying buildings and rubble, but most I've seen so far had simply been swallowed whole by the planet.

The further inland I went signs of oceanic devastation became less apparent, but the earthquakes had still done their grisly work here. Giant cracks and schisms in the ground where motorways and towns had once stood proved my path more difficult to follow than I had originally hoped. On some level this was expected though perhaps not on this scale, which led me to my next investigation.

Some of the larger cracks and canyons created did not seem natural. Or, at least, the heavy burn marks on the ground around them did not seem natural at all. They were also too focused for that, as I said these mainly lay around motorways or towns, but some of the heaviest damage done by these craters does seem intentional. From what I can tell of the surroundings, or at least what's left of the surroundings, these places were of military or historical significance.

The remains of military bases can be found here, or checkpoints, government facilities and, unfortunately, civilian refugee centres. From the angle the ground was carved, it looks like a vertical...beam weapon of some sort. As crazy as that sounds, I've only been able to piece together what I can from my visual observations while my history catches up. This could have been anything that flies from what I can tell, from a helicopter or plane to a satellite or alien craft!

This is not all, however. The largest evidence of military actions seems to be focussed within the country itself. Brash slogans and graffiti over the buildings and walls left standing, things like 'Free the South' or 'Protect the North' that give clear indication of one thing only.

Civil war.

This country, at least, had fallen apart due to civil war, and very recently by the looks of things. Military convoys still roadbound, surviving bases look like they were stockpiled for war, not to mention the highly militarised fortifications and blockades. Not only that, but religious graffiti can also be found, drawing attention to 'The End Times' and such.

I can see from this, the overall experiment has failed but I will discuss that in detail later.
