It's a brand new day today. The aftermath from last night on my island has been cleared. Beyond that, there are a number of trees still smoldering from fire balls that had missed my Mutalisks. A quick review of all my Overlords had seen last night showed that no other monsters showed up. I'm of the opinion I won't see any more of those. Considering how close the enemy came to defeating me last night, or at least causing serious damage, I find it far more likely I'll be seeing more giant Nethergates popping up in the future.
My only consolation is there seems to be a maximum of how many units the enemy can field against me at a time. I'm not sure if Nether monsters are held under that same limitation, but it's possible. Assuming they aren't, I better keep an eye out for any activity no matter the time of day, since Nether monsters won't be stopped by daylight.
Something's got to give. I can't just keep reacting like this. I need to take my fight to the enemy. I can't do that without knowing who it is, though I do have some suspicion. If I'm right though, I don't dare even think his name. Not until I'm ready to take him on anyway. In the meantime, with Nethergates and the possibility of the Ender Dragon showing up, I need to step up my game.
With the lack of regular monsters out and about, I immediately set my Overlords to gathering more trees. Speed is of the essence in this case, so I emphasize to them to get this done as fast as possible. Who knows when the next Nethergate will pop up? It's already bad enough that Nether monsters aren't affected by sunlight like the Overworld monsters are. I can't afford to hold back anymore.
I eyed the quickly dwindling tree line and sighed. At the rate my Overlords are going, I probably won't be able to make use of trees as a resource anymore, what with the treeline rapidly receding from the Hive. I briefly considered making new Hive clusters closer to the treeline, then decided against it. With all the trees getting ripped up, I can see even more clearly just how hilly this area is. It'd be far better if I can get back to mining rock and dirt as a resource instead.
I eyed the moat surrounding my base. On a whim, I ordered a Drone out onto the water. As I expected, it sank like a rock. Sighing, I brainstormed for an idea of how to circumvent the moat/lake my hive is sitting in the middle of. If only I had a drawbridge…
While I was thinking, I kept a close eye on my bio energy count. Every time it reached 100, I ordered up a new Overlord to join the others in gathering trees. Keeping a focus on that is seriously distracting me from thinking. I could really use a Cerebrate about now.
Going back to the issue of the water, I ordered my Creep Colonies to extend the Creep out across the water in the hopes it could connect to the land and form a bridge. It's not ideal, but if I can just get some Creep to the other side, I could park a few more Creep Colonies out there, especially considering I wanted a second ring of defense so I could move the majority of my troops out past the first ring anyway.
The Creep stretched out, seemingly floating over the water. Just a little more… a little more… I watched it strain for the edge, then stop. It can't reach. The Creep started sinking beneath the water as I sighed, only to start as I realized that the Creep had connected to the lake bottom and started spreading there. Could that work? That Drone is still sitting under the water after all…
Quickly, I ordered the Drone to morph into a Creep Colony on the Creep under the water. I've no idea if it'll work, but if it does, I'll be able to create a ring of Sunken Colonies that the monsters won't even be able to get to! I watch and nearly jump in excitement when the Drone successfully starts morphing into a Creep colony. Excited, I order my 37 other Drones into the water one by one until I've got a ring of creep colonies down there. I had to order up three more Drones to make the ring complete, then ordered all of them into Sunken Colonies. The whole thing took up
