The Abomination

"Help! Heeeelp!" The Operator found himself screaming at the top of his lungs as he did his best to climb over the roots. Jumping from time to time to avoid being stuck underneath. The wet roots made this tedious and he feared the creature was gaining on him. Crack, The Operator had the wind knocked out of him, straining to breath, he had miscalculated his jump and slammed into a root breaking ribs. Stunned he fell down between the roots, struggling to regain his composition after slamming into the ground awkwardly. "Can't...breathe!" He flailed in pain, wishing the creature had lost him.

The sickening sound of shifting bones and flesh grew louder. The Operator looked down at his chest and could see the indention of his broken ribs, and found himself wishing he hadn't. He strained to look around and found an opening that appeared to lead out into a field. "If I'd just made that jump I could have been free.." he thought with remorse. "I can't let that thing eat me. I don't even want to imagine how it could!" He closed his eyes trying to fight back thoughts of dying and fought up the strength to roll onto the side of ribs that hadn't broke. "I can make it!" He said to himself to boost his morale. He began dragging himself and pushing as hard as he could.

The creature, that was hunting him neared the root where it watched then man fall, began walking on multiple arms and feet. The abomination stretched over the hole peering down at the man below him, who was half struggled into the underside of a root. It shrieked a horrifying shriek composed of voices resounding in agony and anger. The creature lunged itself down into the hole where the man was.

The fleshy thud that followed the shriek was all the extra motivation The Operator had needed to push himself through the small hole. He felt the grass on his face, it felt like relief, "Even with a broke rib I can try to run!" He thought to himself. The creatures bones cracked and grinding in sickening ways behind him. He felt something grasp his leg and immediately started kicking and trying to stand. "No! No! Let go!" He screamed out kicking at the creature and clawing at the grass. The Operator managed to grip the grass hard enough to pull himself far enough the creature lost its grasp and began shrieking violently. It attempted to force its misshapen body through the roots. It's flesh ground off slowly as it forced its way through the hole. The whole time The Operator was attempting to stand without putting pressure on his broken ribs. He turned to see the creature had pulled itself half way through. It's flesh torn by the rough bark as it scrambled to pull through. He felt sick, as the organs of this creature appeared to be joined with various other organs, stomachs to hearts, rotting and eaten. These things made no sense to him.

"Fuck that" Shouted The Operator, turning and stumbling into the field. "Help me please! Anyone! Is there anyone left at all?!" He begged. The forest had begun to thin as he kept moving, yelling out. He knew the creature could hear him yelling, and probably wasn't far behind. "It found me in the hole, it can probably find me out here..." he thought to himself, but he kept yelling out in hopes he would be heard by someone friendly. "Someone had to survive, right?!" He wasn't sure, the things he'd been through already created a lot of uncertainty. He kept trudging along, every breath was painful, every scream forced him to pause. He would have to gather himself and push forward every time. "Help me! I'm not a monster! Help!" He begged and begged. Soon, his fears were affirmed and the nightmare began anew.

Shambling behind The Operator through the field the creature had slowly caught up to his screams. Intestines and ribs stuck out of its body, the guts swinging with each awkward movement. "Oh come on!" The Operator cried out, hoping his calls had worked he knew he had to try and move. He couldn't stop to call for help. The creature, though heavily injured, seemed to pay no mind to those injuries. The Operator however couldn't ignore the ever growing pain of his ribs. "I healed from the other wounds..but these are getting worse!" He groaned in pain as he trudged through the grass, slowly losing speed. "Maybe if I could rest.." he thought. He knew he couldn't but his body was slowing down. The pain was too great, and he began losing his breath.

The creature shambled towards The Operator steadily, gaining easily once he became fatigued. The creature launched itself upon The Operator , taking them both to the ground.

The operator screamed out in pain as he was tackled by the monstrosity that had hunted him. Slamming into the ground took everything out of him, silencing him and leaving him to watch in terror as this horrifying beast attacked him. Until this point The Operator had chosen not to use his gun, under the assumption that everything for miles would be drawn to an unfamiliar noise. At the time of the beast attack in the church he hadn't had much time and decided to run rather than fight. He reached down between the ground and himself struggling to undo the latch. The creature had been mauling at his back in an attempt to flip him over. "Fine, have it your way.." he said flipping the latch and pushing the safety into fire position. The creature had already torn into his back in spots, so The Operator screamed as he rolled over and opened fire, his scream filled with determination.

A scream that changed to terror as his bullet punched through, but didn't kill the creature. The flash from the explosion generated by the gunpowder's ignition lit the area, revealing horrifying details about the creature he wish he hadn't seen. He was sure some of the pieces belonged to children. Black blood flew everywhere.

The bullet had enough force at that range to back the creature up. BOOM, another bullet rang followed by the deafening ring of firing a gun. The shock of what he had seen caused him to miss his shot. His pistol wasn't anything special, a 9mm pistol he bought at a trade on a whim before heading here. The flash of the shot brought a memory, traveling on a plane, then more horrifying details. Another terrified scream followed by another shot. The creature was hardly stunned, as the bullet was absorbed by a fatty belly.

"Six, this thing won't fucking die?!" The Operator has been counting his shots and he fired into the limbs supporting it, after missing a few shots he chose to take two more at its body, each bullet that passed through destroyed some parts of human flesh, he felt he did some justice before his death and decided to point the gun at himself for his last bullet. He watched the figure slowly rise, and after surviving so much he finally felt he had no way left to fight this world. His last resort couldn't even stop the creature before him. It was in pieces after those bullets but it still moved. The grinding and crunching of shattered bones still made him sick but he knew he wouldn't have to suffer through it much longer.

Then, the most miraculous thing happened. The Operator saw light, and not the metaphorical kind, he saw torch light. "Please help!" He yelled out one last time before the creature fell on top of him. While he had been distracted it had risen up and dropped down on top of him taking his breath away. It began mauling into his arm trying to tear the gem out. The Operator didn't have enough left in him to scream. He decided to use his last bullet to try and signal where he was. He didn't care if it was The Monk, he wasn't ready to die if there was hope.

BOOM.

The pain became too great as the misshapen faces ground their jagged teeth around the gem. The teeth faced different directions and it felt like his arm was being put through a blender. The Operator could only handle so much before he fainted.
