8:35am, Wednesday, Royal Hearts College Sport Field.

-'Dear Journal, it's been almost a week since the virus came.'-

"Hmm.." A soft sigh escaped into the air from the dark skinned boy seating in a lotus position. He had a book opened on his legs while he rolled a blue pen absentmindedly in the air, staring into space. His clothing of black hood and blue trouser, is dirty and messed up with various stains of grease and dirt while a knapsack lay on the granite showered ground.

Dust drifted about, clouding the little sunlight that flickered in through the space in the concrete pavilion over his head. A little inch to his right was a pillar of the pavilion, a broken blue bucket, random sticks and pieces of paper and nylons while to his right was a sleeping figure of a more brightly toned complexion.

The figure heaved and huffed, hands propped up behind him as a cushion for his head while a knee shot up. He had blue long sleeve combat vest and blue sport shorts, equally smeared and darkened by dirt and grime. There are some rubbles around towards his left where a part of the pavilion had broken down.

-'Dear Journal..'- Tolu started again, writing.

-'It will be one week tomorrow since the whole world came to a stop, all thanks to the Apocalypse. Apocalypse? Haha... Seriously, dear journal, if this Apocalypse was what we wanted, with zombies and all that crawling about the place, I think it would have been somewhat cool. But what we have is a polar opposite. Monsters!

And I mean Real Monsters. Lizard like or snakelike monsters crawling the streets. And guess what? Each and every of that monster was once a human being. And it all started, from what I have heard, when the rains came.

We are here because the government allowed graduating class students to resume to finish up their exams. So, imagine the surprise we all had when we heard the news and people started turning.

When it happened, the school went helterskelter but after a day or two, the surviving admins of this our boarding school were able to put a plan to keep us safe. Staffs took us into their staff lodge, as many as they could. Classrooms converted to holding grounds and all that.

But we were not exactly safe still. The teachers and corpers began too, to turn.

When you want to turn, there's this weird growth all over your body. The more of this growth, the more you lose your sanity and begin to metamorph into those monsters who eat nothing but human flesh and are abnormally strong.

It's like seeing a dinosaur in this our modern age. Except that the dinosaurs were once people. TBH, the whole world's gone south.

Oh, oh... I forgot to add. Bolanle, the head girl called for the CTI. But the only thing was that her uncle in the CTI happened to have that monster growth too. Which meant that sooner or later, they'd have to transform. That's why Sam told some of us not to go with them.

And oh, Sam is the head boy of Royal Heart College or was the head boy. I mean, it's not like school system matters anymore, does it?

Now, it's just survival of the fittest!'-

Tolu put an exclamation mark at the end of the last word as he turned his head to stare at the now rising Sam. "Welcome back. You good?" He asked tentatively.

"Yeah!" Sam replied, seating up and stretching. "What happened? Why are we here?" He looked about in confusion.

"Yo chill out! I should be asking you that."

"Why?" Sam frowned.

"What? You're the one who passed out, not me!" Tolu pointed his pen accusingly at his friend, Sam.

"Me?" His hand beat on his chest.

"You don't remember?" Tolu asked, annoyance all over his face watching Sam shake his head slowly. " We were sneaking to the girls hostel when you passed out and I had to Drago you here before we ended up as snacks for those monsters."

"Oh!" Sam's mouth rounded into an o. "Well, let's get going then." He rose hastily into a squatting position, his black leather slippers supporting his weight.

"Haha... Just go like that right? It seems you have amnesia. That's why you don't remember that we just can't just go. Monsters are leaking everywhere, dum dum." Tolu mocked, rolling his pen at him.

"Ah!" Sam seats back on the ground. "My mind is jumbled. Had this weird dream about Bolanle."

"Your lover girl? What about it?" Tolu propped his hands to support his chin on his book.

"You know our relationship was strictly head boy and head girl so stop making it sound like..." Sam whisper yelled.

"I know. I'm joking." Tolu emphasized, a small smirk playing at the corner of his mouth."What about her?"

"Yes..." Sam bit his forefinger, staring at the block of classroom ahead of the pavilion, thoughtfully. "In the dream, she was running and she's saying to me that I should not let..."

"Wait..." Tolu said, rising to the back, on his knees as he peeped through the space between the pavilion seat into the playing field. "Who is that girl and what is she doing so boldly in the middle of the field?" He asked just as Sam rose to join him.

The girl in question wore a greasely white tank top with a short yellow flare skirt and black net leggings cover her exposed thighs to the multicolored AirMax sneakers, staring into space as she sat on the bonnet of a dusty car with a smashed in roof.

Her black brown shoulder length hair followed the caresses of the dust laden air that wheezed through the compartments of the smashed SUV. Beside the SUV were other variety of cars, each one suffering a damage from claw striked, to ripped out tyres to broken doors and the likes. The field was not left out too as bones and a fee skulls littered the environs, the grass bleached with the stale scent of murky red blood.

At the other end of the football field were also vehicles, damaged vehicles parked on the running course just infront of it's pavilion. And behind the pavilion was an unplastered wall with little bushes at the edges which signified the end of the school territory.. At the opposite ends of the goal posts were pavilions and a few more vehicles, shops, hostel building and reading rooms.

Her soft, oval facial features potrayed a vibe that she was at peace with her environs, her long lashes blinking slowly and almost mechanical. Her bust was medium size, neither big nor small accentuated by her moderate sized behind and a fair skin complexion.

"She's pretty!" Sam muttered.

"Mm-hmm!" Tolu agreed. "But she can get in danger like that. If any of the turned sight her eh."

"That's true! She really has guts, staying in a focal position when the times are not normal. I'll go talk to her to talk her out of this self ordained suicide." Sam replied, dusting his body of sand and dust as he rises.

"Just be fast! We have to get to the girls hostel, you know." Tolu whispered, watching as Sam walked out, from under the pavilion into the open.

It took him less than a minute to cover the distance between the pavilion with brisk, danger motivated steps over to the girl. As he walked closer, hastily, the girl turned to him, watching him with narrow eyes before recognition lit her face.

"Oh, hi, Head boy." She smiles warmly, her brown eyes radiating peace.

"Uh... Hello. I'm Sam. And you are?" He asked, throwing himself to seat on the bonnet beside her.

"Angela. You wouldn't know me because I'm not one of the popular girls." She adds upon noting the light frown on his face.

"Uh... Well, yes!" Sam replies uncertainly as he scratches his chin. "You know it's dangerous for you to be here, out on the field."

"I know. I know. But I'm not scared."

Sam frowned, tilting to look at her. "What do you mean you're not scared? You think your prettiness will stop the monsters from eating you?"

At this, Angela giggles, cupping her face. "You think I'm pretty?"

"Well." Sam tilted in the opposite direction, rolling his eyes.

"Well what?"

He knew girls like this, already. They always found ways of throwing the fact that they were pretty into everyone's face. Spoiled rich kids, they were.

"Never mind. I'm just teasing you so don't get all serious on me." Angela pats his back to draw her attention. On her face is a little smirk, showing her enjoyment of his indecision.

Sam facepalmed. "So... What are you doing here?"

"Oh, well." The smirk disappears from her face as she goes all serious, staring at the fence behind the opposite pavilion. "I really don't know. I... I guess I'm worried."

Sam nodded, following her glance."Everyone is worried."

"No, not the general worry " Their eyes meet as Angela turns towards him. "I'm looking for my brother. I haven't seen him since I came to school on Friday. And I'm really worried." Her eyes moisten at this point.

Seeing this, Sam reaches a hand to her shoulder, squeezing gently with eyes full of genuine concern.

"I don't know. He could have turned already. Maybe I'm late. I just don't know. And I'm the reason why he couldnt go home with me on the exeat, last week."

"Hey, calm down! Relax, we still have some people that are alive. We are staying in the dinning hall now and who knows, your brother might be one of us. What is his name?" Sam said, his hands on Angela's shoulder as if in an embrace.

"Tega."

"I think I've heard the name in the hall."

"Are you sure? It could have being anyone else. My brother isn't the only Tega..." Angela breaks down, sobbing into Sam's chest as she is shorter than him by some inches.

"Just be positive. At least let's check the hall before you start crying." He pats her head, pulling her tight in.

It takes some minutes of her sobbing and finally sniffing, before pulling out of Sam's embrace. She looks at him and when their eyes meet, she throws her face away.

"Now you know what I'm doing here. Why are you here and not at the hall?" Angela asks, still looking away from him as she rubs her eyes with the back of her palms.

"Well, my friend and I, Tolu, over there." Sam says, pointing to the pavilion behind him. She follows his gesture and watches just as Tolu reclines from his watch position to seat, backing the duo.

"He's hiding?"

"Uuuuhhh... Because he's shy?" Sam sarcastically says with twisted eyebrows, earning a giggle from her.

"Is there really any guy who's shy in this school? All the guys in Royal Heart are total bad boys. Including you , head boy." She laughs.

Sam joins her in a light chuckle."Well..." He drags, continuing the conversation. " We are running out of food at the kitchen and we thought we should check every hostel to see if we can get provisions from anyone's locker that can supplement the little food we have. We've ransacked the boys hostel already but the girls hostel is at the opposite end. So that's our destination."

"Well, if it's provisions you're looking for. You should check my dormitory, dorm 7, first floor belonging to red house. My provs in the locker are really much because I brought them for Tega and I. So, I guess that might help in the dinning hall, right?"

"Yes!" Sam says thoughtfully just as a crashing sound breaks into their discourse. Turning to look, they see dust rising into the air as another huge piece of the pavilion falls down to the ground.

For a minute, everything looks calm and collected, just one regular occurrence.

Until Tolu started running towards them accompanied by the rising sounds of snarls and growls exploding into the air.
